New Voice for Alabama on TVA Board!

Big news for the Yellowhammer State! Guntersville's own Randall "Randy" Jones is heading to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board of Directors, thanks to a U.S. Senate confirmation this week. This means Alabama gets a fresh voice on the board of the federal utility, right as TVA tackles the challenge of booming power demand across the Tennessee Valley.

Tuberville & Britt Cheer Jones' Confirmation

Senator Tommy Tuberville gave a shout-out to his "good friend," saying, "I know he will do an excellent job representing our state!" Senator Katie Britt echoed the sentiment, noting that Jones' confirmation is "great news for North Alabama" and praising his upcoming work to deliver reliable, affordable energy.

Local Roots and Energy Expertise

Jones is a 50-year resident of Marshall County and the founder of Randy Jones & Associates, an insurance agency based right here in Alabama. Clay Scofield, President and CEO of the Energy Institute of Alabama (EIA), also applauded the confirmation, saying Jones is a "tremendous asset" to TVA as it continues to provide affordable power and boost economic growth in the Valley.

TVA Quorum Reached!

This confirmation couldn't have come at a better time. The TVA board has been facing hurdles due to a lack of a voting quorum. With Jones now onboard, along with Mitch Graves and Jeff Hagood of Tennessee, and Arthur Graham of Florida, the board is back in business! Another nominee, Lee Beaman, is still awaiting approval.

Alabama's Weather Hero: James Spann Takes the National Stage!

For decades, Alabamians have relied on James Spann when the skies turn treacherous. Now, the nation is getting to know his incredible story!

The legendary ABC 33/40 chief meteorologist recently sat down with Bob Van Dillen on Fox Weather's "Chillin' with Bob Van Dillen," sharing the pivotal moments that shaped his career and his unwavering dedication to protecting lives during severe weather.

The Storm That Changed Everything

Van Dillen highlighted the devastating April 2011 Hackleburg-Phil Campbell tornado, a catastrophic event that catapulted Spann into the national spotlight among meteorologists. During that outbreak, Spann remained on-air for an incredible 10 hours, delivering vital, live coverage of a historic Alabama storm.

"Dixie Alley" and a Mission

Alabama sits within "Dixie Alley," a region prone to severe weather, often experiencing more powerful and deadly tornadoes than "Tornado Alley."

"252 people were killed one day in my state," Spann powerfully stated. "That's inexcusable... We can't let that happen again. These were precious people."

Spann has tirelessly dedicated himself to educating the public on tornado safety, often broadcasting for extended periods to provide constant storm updates.

Adapting to the Times: The Alabama Weather Network

In 2025, he launched the Alabama Weather Network, a 24/7 weather channel accessible through social media, streaming platforms, and online. Spann understands the need to innovate to keep audiences engaged.

"One of the reasons I was put on this planet was to mitigate loss of life when there are tornadoes flying around here," Spann explained. He even praised the "YouTubers" for their engaging visuals, advocating for meteorologists to learn from their success.

A Legacy of Saving Lives

James Spann's contributions have been credited with saving countless lives in Alabama. He's received the highest accolades in his field, including "Broadcaster of the Year" from the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society's "Award for Broadcast Meteorology." With a broadcast career spanning 46 years, Spann continues to be a trusted voice for Alabama.

Senator Britt Sounds the Alarm on Big Tech & Kids

Alabama Senator Katie Britt is doubling down on her efforts to protect kids online, calling out Big Tech for not doing enough to safeguard vulnerable children.

Letters to AI Giants

Britt and a bipartisan group of senators recently fired off letters to major AI companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Meta. The message? Step up your game when it comes to transparency and addressing the risks your AI models pose, especially to younger users.

Chatbots Gone Rogue?

The letters highlight reports of AI chatbots potentially encouraging dangerous behaviors in kids, including suicidal thoughts and self-harm. Senators are pushing for companies to be more open about model releases and invest in research on the long-term emotional and psychological impacts of these chatbots.

Transparency is Key

“If AI companies struggle to predict and mitigate relatively well-understood risks, it raises concerns about their ability to manage more complex risks,” the senators wrote, emphasizing the need for clear and consistent reporting, so families, educators, and policymakers can make smart choices about AI use.

Leading the Charge

Senator Britt has been a driving force on this issue, introducing legislation like the Kids Off Social Media Act and the Stop the Scroll Act. She grilled experts and parents of sextortion victims at a recent Senate hearing, stressing the importance of holding social media platforms accountable.

AI Nutrition Labels?

The senators likened AI model reports to "nutrition labels," calling for improved reporting to better respond to user risks. They believe continuous monitoring and public disclosure of new developments are crucial for security and user safety, enabling third-party evaluations and informed decision-making.

Britt's Passion

Britt discussed the issue on Fox News, pointing out the alarming rise in negative feelings and depression among teens on social media. She emphasized the need for action and proper guardrails to allow kids to flourish, lamenting Congress's inaction due to Big Tech's influence.

Tide Faces Sooner Showdown!

Friday night is HUGE! Our Crimson Tide is battling it out in the College Football Playoff's main event. It's Alabama vs. Oklahoma, a standalone game under the lights in Norman, with the whole nation watching.

DeBoer's Biggest Test Yet

This playoff game is the culmination of a rollercoaster regular season, and definitely Coach Kalen DeBoer's biggest challenge so far. Remember that rough start? Bama rallied with eight straight wins before... well, you know.

Revenge is in the Air?

After the Sooners clipped our playoff wings back in '24, this one's personal for DeBoer and the Tide. But beware! This matchup could be the toughest yet; Oklahoma's looking healthier than ever.

Defense Wins Championships?

Oklahoma boasts a top-notch defense, with a pass rush that'll make you shiver. They forced three Alabama turnovers last time, and those miscues proved to be the dagger.

Key to Victory

Winning the turnover battle is crucial—especially for Alabama, who's been struggling on offense lately. Establishing a running game is a MUST. This game has all the makings of a classic, smash-mouth brawl.

Every Point Counts!

Expect a low-scoring affair where every single point, including those from special teams, will be worth its weight in gold. Oklahoma's got a stellar kicker, while Bama's kicking game has... well, we know the story. When we hit the red zone, it's touchdowns or bust!

Protect Simpson!

The Tide needs to shield Ty Simpson WAY better than that Georgia debacle. And Simpson needs to deliver those easy throws.

Road to the Rose Bowl

If Alabama can run the ball and ditch the turnovers, a trip to the Rose Bowl is within reach. If not? It'll be another head-scratcher for DeBoer and the start of a long offseason.

Moore Clashes with Dems Over Gun Control

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is firing back at Democrats pushing for tighter gun control laws. This comes after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) renewed calls for restrictions following recent tragic events.

"It Doesn't Work!"

Moore, who's also eyeing a Senate run in 2026, didn't mince words on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.” He stated Democrats lack credibility on the issue. "The highest crime cities in the country are run by Democrats who restrict gun control," Moore declared. "They'll take your guns, tell you to call the police, then defund the police and release criminals onto the streets!"

Protecting the Second Amendment

Moore emphasized the Second Amendment's importance. "The right to bear arms is protected by the Constitution," he asserted. He believes well-funded police, strong national security, secure borders, and armed citizens are the real solutions. "You can't always wait for someone to save you."

A Different Approach to Crime

Moore highlighted instances where armed citizens defended congregations in churches. He argues guns aren't the core issue. "It's the people they're letting into these countries and the criminal element that we're turning loose with no-cash bail," he explained. He also noted global movements within majority-Muslim nations.
