Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) are putting the brakes on illegal commercial trucking activity in the state! Since teaming up with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just over a month ago, they've snagged 82 individuals during Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspections. This is all part of a coordinated effort by lawmakers and law enforcement to keep our roads safe and kick out the "bad actors" behind the wheel of big rigs. ALEA's Strike Force operations, focused on high-crash rural interstate corridors, were a major part of the success. They also flagged about 242 individuals encountered during CMV inspections for immigration status checks. Shockingly, 12 of those detained didn't have any kind of driver's license! ICE personnel are now integrated into ALEA's everyday commercial vehicle enforcement, too. Hal Taylor, Secretary of ALEA, is serious about keeping Alabama roads safe from illegal operators. "These results reflect the strength of our ongoing partnership with ICE," he said. The Alabama Trucking Association is on board with a nationwide initiative, getting major backing from the U.S. Department of Transportation. They've even released a plan called "The Fight for Fairness and Safety: Paving the Way for a Trucking Resurgence," aiming to take down those who exploit the rules. According to the ATA, shady operators are slipping through regulatory cracks, hurting honest trucking companies and giving professional drivers a bad name. Mark Colson, Alabama Trucking Association CEO, says Alabama is doing its part to keep highways safe and keep the bad guys out. The "Trucking Resurgence" plan tackles seven major vulnerabilities: Alabama's U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, along with Governor Kay Ivey, are all in! Governor Ivey says Alabama is leading the charge against illegal trucking. "If you are here illegally and breaking our laws or putting folks at risk on our highways, you will be held accountable in our state," she declared. Senator Tuberville wants to make sure everyone applying for CDLs is properly trained and speaks English. Senator Britt is all about protecting American jobs and saving lives by cracking down on improperly issued CDLs. They're both supporting the push to get rid of the bad actors who are hurting Alabama businesses and risking lives.Alabama Cracks Down on Illegal Trucking Ops!
