Get your spacesuits ready, Huntsville! We just got our first look at the future U.S. Space Command headquarters, and it’s out of this world! Gen. Stephen Whiting, Space Command's top gun, revealed a conceptual rendering of the planned Redstone Arsenal facility.

Huntsville Gets a Glimpse

Whiting showed off the design to Huntsville and Madison County bigwigs in Washington, D.C. It was part of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber’s annual D.C. trip, so you know it's a big deal!

About the Design

The rendering shows a large, modern building with a unique multi-sided design. This sprawling campus, planned for 60 acres, will cover about 460,000 square feet. Think modern, think awesome!

Bringing the Crew

Once fully operational, the facility will house over 1,300 personnel, both civilian and uniformed. That’s a whole lotta brains and dedication focused on space!

Moving on Up!

This unveiling shows the Space Command relocation to Huntsville is gaining speed. The first wave of personnel from the intelligence division are already working at Redstone. By the end of the year, about 200 people will be working there!

Construction on the Horizon

Construction of the permanent headquarters should kick off in 2027, wrapping up in the early 2030s. The move from Colorado will happen in phases, as new buildings are completed.

"Moving Forward"

"Our move to Huntsville is moving forward,” Whiting told lawmakers recently. He also noted that final decisions on construction partnerships are coming soon.

Last December, federal and state leaders celebrated the future headquarters site with a sign unveiling ceremony at Redstone Arsenal, calling the move a game-changer for national defense and North Alabama.

Big Win for Alabama Kids: Roblox Settlement!

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall just scored a major victory for child safety, announcing a whopping $12.2 million settlement with Roblox! The gaming giant will also be implementing key reforms to protect young users. And the best part? All the cash is going straight to funding school resource officers (SROs) across the state!

Cracking Down on Online Predators

Marshall emphasized that Alabama is one of the first states to reach such an agreement with Roblox. He pointed out a serious flaw in their chat feature, making it easy for shady adults to contact and potentially solicit kids. With over 100,000 users in Alabama alone estimated to be over 16, this is a HUGE win for protecting our youth.

What's Changing?

Beyond the money, the settlement forces Roblox to make some serious changes. Adult communication with users under 16 will be heavily restricted, needing direct parental authorization. Some of these changes are already live, with the rest rolling out soon.

Safe Schools Initiative

That $12.2 million is going into a "safe school initiative fund," dedicated to getting SROs in every Alabama school! Marshall believes this settlement will bring the state closer to that goal, providing a safe learning environment for all students.

And get this: Alabama's settlement includes a "most favored nation" clause. That means if Roblox gives another state a sweeter deal later on, Alabama automatically gets the same benefits!

Reporting Concerns

Worried about your child's safety on Roblox? There's a new dedicated email address for Alabama parents and law enforcement to report concerns directly to the Attorney General’s office: roblox@alabamaag.gov. Plus, Roblox will have a regional point-of-contact for Alabama and will help train law enforcement and educate parents about online safety.

Age Verification is Key

Roblox is now requiring all users – old and new – to verify their age to use the chat feature. Chief Counsel Katherine Robertson says the chat is OFF by default until you prove you're old enough.

How does it work?

Age verification will use government-issued IDs and facial recognition tech. Robertson assures us the facial recognition is pretty accurate, and initial tests estimate ages almost perfectly!
