We've all got our embarrassing moments, right? My buddy, a former high school pal and now a church music leader, once took a header onto the platform steps before worship. Ouch! Thankfully, he was okay, but it definitely set a new bar for awkward entrances. It reminded me of a story about a famous preacher who'd pray, "Fill me! Fill me!" on his way to the pulpit. Another pastor confessed his prayer was simply, "Don't fall! Don't fall!" I gotta say, that's a prayer I can relate to! One Sunday, our music leader's corded mic decided to stage its own dramatic exit mid-song. I attempted a graceful rescue mission, piecing it back together while we were singing. That pretty much maxed out my A/V repair skills for the year. And then there was the breath spray incident. Imagine a small canister turning into a hissing, sputtering geyser during the closing prayer! I practically dove under the pulpit, praying it wouldn't explode. I switched to peppermints after that. Of course, most preacher worries are pretty trivial. Like the time I realized I was rocking mismatched suit pants and jacket – a fashion crime committed in the pre-dawn darkness. Luckily, nobody noticed (or at least, nobody said anything!). But sometimes, those little blunders lead to something meaningful. After a service, a sweet lady pointed out a rather noticeable hole in the back of my jacket. Turns out, I hadn't properly inspected my long-forgotten suit before wearing it. But from then on, I had a killer illustration for Ephesians 6! A Bible conference leader once asked how the armored Christian soldier was vulnerable. The answer? "An attack from the rear." Now, I share my wardrobe mishap and talk about the importance of having each other's backs.Pulpit Mishaps and Holy Spirit Prayers
