D.C. Swamp vs. Common Sense

After five-plus years representing Alabama in the Senate, one thing's clear: D.C. is more interested in protecting itself than helping Americans. Too many politicians talk a good game, but all they care about is re-election. That's not why Alabama sent me here! I don't care what the D.C. elite think, and I'm not afraid to shake things up.

The SAVE America Act Showdown

Take the SAVE America Act, for example. This simple bill requires photo ID to vote – something 83% of Americans support, including 71% of Democrats! So why isn't it law? Because Senate Democrats are more interested in pleasing their radical left-wing than backing popular policies.

With Dems blocking it, Republicans have two choices: nuke the filibuster and force it through, or cave and let it die. I've been saying for months we need to do whatever it takes to get this done. But D.C. swamp creatures would rather protect their power than do what's right. They'll "support" the SAVE America Act while refusing to actually pass it. It's infuriating we can't get this done, even with control of the White House, House, and Senate.

Homeland Security Held Hostage

The same garbage is happening with DHS funding. Dems are letting the agency responsible for protecting us go unfunded to get what they want. Funding DHS shouldn't be a bargaining chip; it should be a basic duty!

Because Dems won't play ball, the only option is to fund DHS through reconciliation – a process needing just 51 votes. If we have the votes, let's use them! But let's not be timid. If we're using reconciliation for DHS, let's use it to advance other priorities, like election security and government accountability.

Time for Action, Not Talk

Let's pack the bill with wins for the President and the country! Why not add the SAVE America Act, since it's wildly popular? And while we're at it, let's add my Abolish TSA Act, which would privatize aviation security and save taxpayers millions! TSA is part of DHS and has been slammed by this funding mess.

We've seen how pointless government involvement in airport security is. Privatize it, and Americans won't suffer long lines because D.C. Dems can't get their act together. It's common sense!

The Trump Playbook

Remember when everyone doubted President Trump and said the tax cuts ("One Big Beautiful Bill") would never happen? They were wrong! Republicans used reconciliation to pass those cuts and delivered real results for American families. When we're willing to act, we can deliver. Now is not the time to bow down to old Senate rules. Whether it takes days or weeks, let's use this chance to deliver the MAGA agenda. The American people are counting on it.

About Tommy Tuberville

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama and serves on several Senate committees. He's also considering a run for Governor of Alabama in 2026.

Crimson Tide Coach Gets a Raise!

Roll Tide! Apparently, all the chatter about Coach Kalen DeBoer's future got to someone. Alabama just locked him down with a brand-new seven-year deal worth a cool $87.5 million! He's staying in Tuscaloosa through 2032, folks.

Streamer Says...What?!

Left-leaning streamer Hasan Piker just dropped some bombshells in The New York Times. He's apparently cool with stealing from corporations and even gets why someone might, uh, unalive a healthcare CEO. Yikes! Looks like the Democrats might be having a bit of a headache.

Alabama's About to Go Green

After ages of waiting, medical marijuana is almost here in Alabama! State officials say the program is about to launch. You still can't spark up, but there are other... options. You know what we mean.

IVF Drama Continues

Alabama Attorney General candidate Jay Mitchell is fighting back against ads misrepresenting his views on frozen embryos. He says he "supports IVF" and wants to "protect IVF families." Stay tuned!

Montgomery: "War Zone"?

Former Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange is pointing to the city's crime problems in a new radio ad backing Katherine Robertson for AG. Meanwhile, Senator Tommy Tuberville (yes, the coach) is calling Montgomery a "war zone." Ouch!

SPLC Under Fire

The Southern Policy Law Center is catching heat. Doug Jones, looking like he slept in a dumpster and stole his shoes, is among its defenders. Apparently, the SPLC's revenue spiked after Charlottesville, and the DOJ is investigating alleged ties to extremist groups.

Iran Tension High

The U.S. and Iran are still playing the "will they, won't they" game with peace talks, and that naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is still happening. VP JD Vance is involved in negotiations, the U.S. nabbed three Iranian oil tankers, and Iran's economy is looking shaky. Oh, and a Navy Secretary left the Trump administration way back when.

Saban Spills the Draft Day Tea!

Alright ChumCity crew, draft night is almost here, and who better to give us the inside scoop than the legendary Nick Saban? The man knows football inside and out, from his dynasty days at Alabama to his time leading the Miami Dolphins.

Draft Room Drama? You Betcha!

Recently, Saban stopped by "The Pat McAfee Show" and dropped some hilarious truth bombs about what really goes on behind closed doors when teams are making their picks.

When Coaches and GMs Clash...

Saban emphasized how crucial it is for everyone in the organization to be on the same page. As he put it, if the GM and the coach are pulling in different directions on player selection, it's a recipe for disaster. "Somebody is gonna get fired," he quipped, "and most of the time it's the coach." Ouch!

College vs. Pro: A Whole Different Ballgame

The coaching GOAT also highlighted the stark contrast between college recruiting, where he could land pretty much anyone he wanted, and the NFL draft, with its limited resources. It’s a whole new world, folks!

More Saban-isms to Come

Get ready for more nuggets of wisdom from Saban as he transitions from sideline legend to media analyst for this year's draft. Should be a fun ride!

Big News for North Alabama's Energy Future!

Get ready, North Alabama! The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is teaming up with Plus Power to bring a massive battery energy storage project to Jackson County. This isn't just any project; it's a serious power-up for our grid, meaning more reliable energy and support for our booming local economy.

Crawfish Creek to the Rescue!

The project, called Crawfish Creek Energy Storage, will add a whopping 200-megawatt / 800-megawatt-hour battery system. TVA chose this project after a competitive search for the best new energy solutions for our region. Plus Power will own and build the system, while TVA will be in charge of managing when the stored energy gets released.

Why Batteries? Why Now?

"Battery storage is the name of the game for reliable, affordable electricity," says Monika Beckner, TVA's VP of Power Supply & Fuels. "Projects like Crawfish Creek are about boosting our energy security, handling those crazy weather events, and unleashing American energy!"

Jobs and Juice!

Construction is slated to start in 2028, with the project expected to be up and running by summer 2029. And get this: it's estimated to create between 50 and 100 construction jobs in Jackson County, plus four full-time operational gigs once it's complete!

Power When You Need It Most

Think of this battery system as a giant energy piggy bank. It stores energy when it's cheap and available and then dishes it out when demand is high. It'll also keep our grid humming smoothly, supporting the growth of advanced manufacturing, data centers, and other big investments.

Big Picture Energy

This Crawfish Creek project is part of TVA's plan to add 6,200 megawatts of new generation capacity to meet our area's rising electricity needs. And remember, TVA-supported projects have already created over 91,000 jobs and $45.9 billion in investments here in Alabama!

Plus Power Joins the Party

"We're stoked to support energy resilience in Jackson County and the Tennessee Valley," says Brian Duncan of Plus Power. "Batteries are super-fast and flexible, making Crawfish Creek perfect for meeting the region's needs. We're pumped to partner with TVA!"

Plus Power is expanding into its seventh state with this project, and its first in the Southeast. They already run nine energy storage facilities in other states, totaling a huge amount of power.

Alabama Business Coalition: Powering Alabama's Future!

Get ready, ChumCity! The Alabama Business Coalition is back in action on Wednesday, May 13, bringing together the best minds in business and policy to talk about what's next for our state's economy.

What's the Buzz?

Formed as a non-profit, the Alabama Business Coalition is made up of sharp government affairs pros from companies deeply rooted in Alabama. They've created a fantastic space for collaboration, all to boost Alabama's long-term prosperity.

Making Waves in DC

The coalition focuses on sparking conversations that lead to real solutions for businesses, residents, and communities across Alabama. They regularly meet with members of Congress, their key staff, and state leaders, building a respected bridge between the private sector and public leadership.

Hear from the Executive Director

Kara Adame, VP of Government Affairs for Protective Life and Executive Director of the Alabama Business Coalition, says, "Since launching in 2023, the Alabama Business Coalition has proven the value of consistent, face-to-face engagement in DC. By bringing Alabama employers together with elected officials for candid, nonpartisan discussions, ABC has become an effective forum for strengthening relationships and advancing ideas that support the state’s economic growth and long‑term success."

Meet the Leaders

The coalition is guided by a powerhouse board, including Bill Bailey (Radiance Technologies), Austin Bone (Vulcan Materials Company), Mary Pat Lawrence (Protective Life Insurance Company), Watson Donald (Alabama Power Company), and Gina Rigby (AFLAC, as Board Advisor). Their diverse backgrounds represent the key industries fueling Alabama's growth.

Special Guest: U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers

The May meeting will feature U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, a major voice for Alabama in Washington. He's been instrumental in strengthening Alabama's reputation in national security, innovation, and industry.

Real Talk, Real Results

Coalition meetings are all about direct, in-person conversations. Members and officials can dive deep into pressing federal and economic issues. This approach has fostered strong discussions and valuable relationships that benefit everyone in Alabama.

A Word from the President

"What makes ABC work is the direct access – Alabama employers sitting down with our congressional delegation and having conversations about the issues that matter to our state," says Watson Donald, president of the Alabama Business Coalition. "That kind of engagement is hard to replicate, and the relationships built through this coalition continue to strengthen Alabama’s voice in Washington. We’re grateful to our members and elected officials for making that possible.”

Staying Competitive

The Alabama Business Coalition is showing how strategic leadership and engagement can keep Alabama competitive and positioned for success in Washington and beyond. Stay tuned for more updates!

Alabama Senate Race Heats Up!

The Republican primary for Alabama's open U.S. Senate seat is turning into a nail-biter! With the May 19th election just around the corner, a brand-new poll shows the top three contenders are neck and neck!

The Numbers Game

Alabama Daily News first reported the results of a survey conducted by The Tarrance Group for Alabama Strong (a PAC backing Attorney General Steve Marshall). They asked 500 likely Republican primary voters between April 11th and 14th who they'd vote for. Here's the breakdown:

  • Barry Moore: 28%
  • Steve Marshall: 27%
  • Jared Hudson: 24%
  • The Rest: 14%
  • Undecided: 7%

Too Close to Call?

"The Rest" includes Seth Burton, Dale Shelton Deas Jr., Rodney Walker, and Morgan Murphy (who's already dropped out but will still be on the ballot).

The margin of error is ±4.9%, meaning Moore, Marshall, and Hudson are basically in a dead heat! This contrasts sharply with a recent poll from Moore's camp, which showed him with a massive lead. Could be anyone's game, folks!

DeBoer's Staying Put: Tide Extends Coach's Contract!

Hold onto your hats, ChumCity! The Alabama Crimson Tide just locked down head coach Kalen DeBoer with a brand new contract extension! We're talking two more years tacked onto the deal, rocketing him into the top five highest-paid coaches in the college football world. Consider any whispers of a "hot seat" officially extinguished.

Big Money, Big Commitment

Originally slated for $10.5 million in 2026, DeBoer's now pulling in a cool $12.5 million annually. The goal? Simple: restore the Tide to national championship glory after a couple of seasons of slight turbulence.

DeBoer's Take

"My family and I are beyond grateful for the continued support," DeBoer stated, giving props to the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Trant, President Mohler, AD Greg Byrne, the coaching staff, the community, and the University itself. "We're pumped to continue our time in Tuscaloosa with this contract extension."

Alabama All In

But wait, there's more! The commitment from Alabama runs deep, folks. The buyout figures if they were to part ways with DeBoer are mind-boggling.

If, hypothetically, DeBoer got the boot after this upcoming season, Alabama would owe him nearly $70 MILLION! Even after the 2027 season, that number's still north of $55 million. It doesn't even dip below $20 million until after 2030! Translation? DeBoer is Roll Tide for the long haul!

Loyalty Rewarded

After being heavily courted by Penn State and Michigan this offseason, DeBoer showed his Crimson Tide colors. Now, Alabama's returning the favor. The message is clear: The DeBoer era is here to stay!

Lake Martin Mourns the Loss of "Mr. Ben" Russell

The Lake Martin community is heartbroken to hear of the passing of Benjamin Russell, affectionately known as "Mr. Ben." The news, confirmed by Russell Lands CEO David Sturdivant and The Outlook, marks a somber day for the area.

A Legacy of Leadership and Giving

Alexander City Mayor Mike Densmore perfectly captured the sentiment, stating you could "exhaust your adjectives" trying to describe Mr. Russell – a true testament to his remarkable character.

Born in Alexander City in 1938, Mr. Russell's impact began with the family-founded Russell Corporation. He later took the helm as president of Russell Lands in 1970, shaping it into a regional powerhouse in real estate, timber, and recreation.

Champion of Children and Families

Beyond his business acumen, Mr. Russell was celebrated for his extraordinary philanthropy. In 1989, he and his wife, Luanne, established Children’s Harbor, a beacon of hope for children and families navigating serious health hurdles.

His commitment continued with a monumental $25 million donation to Children’s of Alabama in 2008, paving the way for the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children. And, most recently, the Benjamin Russell Center for Advanced Care just opened at Russell Medical this year.

Mr. Russell's legacy will resonate through generations, a shining example of business leadership intertwined with unwavering dedication to the well-being of children and families throughout Alabama.
