Get ready for some bittersweet news, ChumCity golf fans! The legendary Mic Potter, the mastermind behind the Alabama Crimson Tide women's golf program for over two decades, has announced his retirement at the end of the 2025-26 season.

A Hall of Fame Career

This National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Famer has been shaping young golfers for over 40 years. Potter arrived in Tuscaloosa with a simple goal: to build something special. And boy, did he deliver! He transformed the program into a national powerhouse, consistently competing at the highest level.

Building a Legacy at Alabama

Before his Crimson Tide tenure, Potter spent 22 seasons leading Furman. He joined Alabama in 2005 and led the team to the 2012 NCAA Championship and a runner-up finish in 2018. The program had never seen such heights before!

A Resume That Speaks Volumes

Twice named the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coach of the Year, Potter's resume boasts 36 WGCA All-Americans and 64 All-SEC selections. He also guided his players to off-the-course success, with over 70 earning WGCA All-Scholar Athlete recognition.

An Irreplaceable Figure

Flashback: Mo Brooks's Unexpected Opponent

Remember that feel-good moment when a young, bright-eyed teenager throws his hat in the political ring? Back in 2009, then-County Commissioner Mo Brooks was all smiles, praising a fresh-faced 18-year-old named James Lomax who was making a long-shot bid for Huntsville City Council. "When I see this youth coming forward, it makes me thankful and hopeful for what our future is going to be like," Brooks gushed.

Fast Forward to Today

That teenager? He's now Alabama's House Majority Whip, James Lomax. And the plot twist? The very same Mo Brooks is now trying to unseat him!

The Challenger: A Blast from the Past

Brooks, a former six-term congressman with a string of unsuccessful statewide campaigns, has thrown his hat into the ring for Alabama House District 20. Guess who holds that seat? You guessed it, James Lomax.

This primary battle is turning heads across the state, not just for the candidates themselves, but for the stark contrast they represent.

Two Visions, One District

On one side, you have Lomax, a young gun who's earned respect in the House, snagged key committee assignments, and championed legislation focused on tax cuts and easing the burden of cost of living. On the other, there's Brooks, a seasoned political veteran aiming for a return to a position he held before Lomax was even born, and who openly admits to sponsoring only one standalone bill during his twelve years in Congress.

Speaker's Critique: A Harsh Assessment

House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter didn't mince words, stating plainly that "Mo Brooks has failed in every office he’s been in."

A History of Unsuccessful Campaigns

Looking back, Brooks lost the Madison County DA race in '92, finished third in the lieutenant governor's race in '06, and lost a Senate primary to Luther Strange and Roy Moore in 2017. He even gave up his secure Fifth District seat in 2022 for another Senate run, only to lose to Katie Britt.

Political Flexibility

Brooks's views on Lomax may echo his changing stance on Donald Trump, whom he initially criticized, then sought endorsements from, and most recently criticized again.

The big question: Was Brooks's praise for Lomax genuine, or just a calculated move?

The Verdict?

Brooks's words from 2009 offer a fascinating look at the political landscape then and now. The future he once envisioned has arrived, and the voters of House District 20 have a choice to make: embrace that future, or turn back to the past.

Tax Day Cheers! Tuberville Highlights Overtime Tax Relief

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) celebrated Tax Day with a shout-out to the no-tax-on-overtime provision he championed. He says over 25 million Americans have already snagged this exemption!

Bigger Refunds Thanks to Tax Cuts?

Speaking to reporters, Tuberville pointed to IRS stats showing average tax refunds are up a whopping 11% compared to last year. He credits the working families tax cuts baked into the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law by President Trump back on July 4, 2025.

Keeping More Dough

"No one loves taxes, but thanks to President Trump’s working families tax cuts, Alabamians are getting to keep more of their hard-earned cash right now," Tuberville declared.

The Overtime Wages Tax Relief Act

Tuberville co-introduced the Overtime Wages Tax Relief Act back in May 2025 with Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS). This gem became part of the One Big Beautiful Bill. It's a tax deduction on overtime wages, up to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for married couples, aimed at middle and lower-income workers. There's a phase-out for higher earners, though, kicking in above $100,000 for individuals and $200,000 for couples.

A Boon for First Responders

Tuberville emphasized the importance of this exemption for law enforcement, first responders, and blue-collar folks who regularly clock in more than 40 hours a week.

Rewarding Hard Work

"For many Alabamians on the front lines, keeping us safe – like law enforcement and first responders – overtime is just part of the gig," Tuberville said. "We shouldn't punish hard work; we need to reward it!"

Alabama Republicans Cheer Tax Day Wins!

Tax Day just got a whole lot sunnier, at least according to Alabama's Republican Congressional crew! They're taking the opportunity to shout about the bigger refunds supposedly hitting the pockets of most Alabamians, thanks to the Trump tax cuts.

The "Working Families Tax Cut"

Remember the "Working Families Tax Cut" signed into law earlier this year? Alabama's average taxpayer, according to the GOP, is looking at a sweet $2,843 in tax relief.

What They're Saying

Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) is pumped, stating, "Republicans kept their promise to hardworking Americans! We prevented the largest tax hike in history and delivered historic relief by putting more money back into their pockets."

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) echoed the sentiment: "Many families in Alabama are feeling relief due to President Trump's tax cuts for working families!"

Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) added, "We are focused on making sure hardworking Americans get to keep more of what they earn. The American people are seeing results!"

More Good News?

Reps. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), Dale Strong (R-Huntsville), and Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) are all highlighting the no-taxes-on-tips-and-overtime angle, plus they're giving a shout-out to the child tax credit. Sounds like folks are feeling a bit better about this Tax Day!

Tuberville Promises to Tackle Crime as Governor

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is throwing his hat in the ring for Alabama governor, and he's got a plan to clean up the state's crime problem!

Addressing Crime Beyond Montgomery

Tuberville, currently a frontrunner in the gubernatorial race, recently spoke about the issue, emphasizing that crime isn't just a Montgomery problem, but a statewide concern. He stated, "I’m not going to allow the people of this state of Alabama to live in a war zone or live in unsafe neighborhoods, if we can help it.”

Response to Montgomery Shootings

Tuberville's comments follow a recent surge of shootings in Montgomery that left four dead and several others injured.

Tuberville's Plan: More Authority, Tougher Judges

Tuberville plans to give law enforcement more authority and crack down on what he calls "corrupt judges" who release offenders back onto the streets. "We’re going to go after these corrupt judges," he declared, promising to do what's right for Alabamians.

Safety & Economic Growth

The Senator argues that a safer Alabama isn't just about public safety; it's also crucial for the state's economic well-being. He emphasized a zero-tolerance approach, stating, "We are not going to let the animals run the zoo." He plans to bolster law enforcement, target "bad judges," and ensure criminals stay behind bars. "We are not going to lose our state because we can’t grow," he vowed.

Moore Optimistic About Trump Priorities via Reconciliation

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is holding onto hope! He believes Congressional Republicans can actually push through some of President Trump's biggest priorities using a reconciliation package. Could this be the way?

What's on the Table?

Word on the street is Republican leaders are eyeing reconciliation to fund the Department for Homeland Security (DHS), pump more cash into Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and even try to pass the Save America Act. Big goals!

The Reconciliation Route

Reconciliation is key because it sidesteps the filibuster. However, it's not a free pass! The Senate Parliamentarian has to give the green light. Moore chatted about this tricky process Wednesday on WVNN's "The Yaffee Program."

Cautious Optimism

"We've seen reconciliation work," Moore said, outlining the hurdles: "Getting everyone on board in the House, then navigating the Senate Parliamentarian... it's tough, but worth it. I'm cautiously optimistic."

No Bad Deals!

Moore insists Republicans should pursue these priorities via reconciliation before considering compromises with the other side. "Let's get as much as we can through reconciliation first," he urged. He emphasized the importance of securing funding for ICE and border security, stating that the public elected Trump to "clean the mess up" at the border.

Save America Act Hopes

Moore is keen to include elements of the Save America Act in reconciliation. "It's just a matter of how much we can get in it, and get past the Senate Parliamentarian to actually get it passed." Let's see if they can pull it off!
