Muschamp's Classy Comments Stir the Pot!

Texas Longhorns' new defensive coordinator, Will Muschamp, is already making waves, and not just on the gridiron! The former SEC head coach dropped some serious truth bombs during a recent presser, and let's just say, some folks might be feeling the heat.

No Slacking Allowed in Austin!

As spring practices wrap up, coaches everywhere are getting settled into their new roles. Muschamp, a seasoned veteran with stints at Auburn, LSU (under Saban), and most recently Georgia (under Smart), has noticed something special in Texas: the Longhorns value academics!

Taking Aim?

Muschamp didn't hold back, implying some programs might be a little lax when it comes to attending class. He emphasized that in Austin, academics are a priority.

The Quote Heard 'Round the SEC

"In our society right now, sometimes it’s easy to spot [players who don’t want to work hard and be coached], and we gotta make sure we stay away from those guys who don’t want to get developed and coached the right way,” Muschamp stated. “They need to have good tape, they need to have a good transcript. Actually, our players go to school here at Texas. We actually go to class. Not like some other places.”

Who's He Talking About?

Muschamp didn't name names, leaving us all to speculate which programs might be bending the rules. But one thing's for sure: this SEC coaching legend isn't afraid to speak his mind! Stay tuned for more drama!

Montgomery's Mayhem: AG Marshall Blasts City Leadership

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall isn't pulling any punches when it comes to Montgomery's recent surge in violence. After a particularly brutal weekend in the capital city, Marshall is laying the blame squarely at the feet of Montgomery's leadership.

"Excuses Run Out"

Marshall accuses city officials of dodging responsibility for the escalating crime crisis. The past weekend saw a shocking series of shootings, leaving four dead and three fighting for their lives, according to Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys. Officers responded to seven separate shooting incidents in just 48 hours.

Homicides on the Rise

This grim tally pushes Montgomery's homicide count to a staggering 14 for the year so far. Marshall reacted sharply, stating that city officials need to own up to the problems. "14 homicides before mid-April, and the people running Montgomery keep pointing fingers everywhere but at themselves," he posted online. "At some point, the excuses run out."

A Missed Opportunity?

Marshall also highlighted a bill, sponsored by State Sen. Will Barfoot, that he believes could have helped alleviate the crisis. However, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed reportedly opposed it. "Sen. Barfoot tried to help," Marshall stated. "SB298 would have fixed MPD's staffing crisis. That was the leadership and solutions we needed."

The Stalled Bill

The legislation aimed to ensure that Class 3 municipalities like Montgomery and Huntsville maintain a minimum of two full-time police officers per 1,000 residents. It would have authorized the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to intervene if cities failed to comply. Unfortunately, the measure failed to pass before the end of the 2026 legislative session.

Speaker's Explanation

Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter explained that the bill ran out of time due to the threat of a filibuster. He suggested revisiting the issue when the legislature reconvenes.

Trump's Triumphant Return: A Year of Wins!

President Trump's back in office, and it's been a whirlwind year of action! He's been busy "Making America Great Again" with over 215 Executive Orders. But he's not doing it alone!

Congress Steps Up for Families

Dedicated members of Congress are working hard to bring the President's vision to life and champion American families. Case in point: the game-changing Working Families Tax Cuts Act!

Senator Britt: Alabama's Champion for Families

Alabama's own Senator Katie Britt played a crucial role in getting this law passed. She spearheaded pro-family provisions that will have a huge impact, especially in Alabama, where childcare costs can top $8,000 per year!

More Money in Your Pocket!

Senator Britt knows families are the heart of America. She fought tirelessly to expand the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC), giving hardworking Alabama families a much-needed financial boost for childcare and other essentials. It's like a little extra cash just for being awesome parents!

Tackling the Childcare Crunch

This credit hadn't been significantly updated since 2001 – until now! Senator Britt identified this issue and pushed for crucial fixes from her Child Care Availability and Affordability Act to be included in the final bill.

Businesses Get a Boost, Too!

The Section 45F Employer Child Care Credit is another win, helping businesses offer childcare options to employees. This means over 449,000 small businesses in Alabama and their 802,000+ workers will see real benefits. Small businesses can even pool resources for bigger impact!

A Stronger Workforce, a Stronger Economy

Affordable childcare means more parents can rejoin the workforce full-time! Plus, expanded Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (DCAPs) ensure parents aren't penalized for working. It's a win-win for families and the economy!

Senator Britt Delivers!

Senator Britt's efforts have cut through the complexities of the tax code, securing pro-family reforms that will truly help hardworking Alabamians. She used her experience as a working mom to get real results.

Climbing the Ranks

Goodner's journey is a true Hoar success story. He started as a project manager and worked his way up. He's been a director of division operations and a senior vice president. Alabama's Building Boom Faces a Challenge!

The Heart of Dixie's construction industry is a major player, injecting serious cash into our state's economy and providing tons of jobs. We're talking about more than 6% of Alabama's GDP! This sector is like the engine driving growth, from healthcare hubs to spiffy new homes.

Uh Oh, Labor Shortage on the Horizon!

But hold on – there's a storm brewing. We're facing a labor shortage that could last for several years. Blame it on a mix of factors, like rising costs and a workforce that's getting older and retiring.

Rising Costs, Slower Projects!

This shortage is already causing headaches. Construction costs are going up, projects are taking longer, and it's disrupting workforces all across the state. The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) are seeing it firsthand.

Apprenticeships to the Rescue!

Thankfully, Alabama's not sitting still. The state is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Labor to tackle this problem head-on. How? Through apprenticeship programs! These programs give Alabama students a chance to learn valuable skills and get paid while they learn. Sounds way better than drowning in student loan debt, right?

A Nationwide Issue

This labor shortage isn't just an Alabama problem; it's hitting the whole country. ABC estimates that the commercial construction industry needs around 500,000 more workers than usual every single year just to keep up!

Building a Brighter Future

Major investments are pouring into infrastructure, factories, and housing. That means the demand for skilled workers is skyrocketing. Apprenticeship programs can fill this gap, giving the next generation the chance to build affordable homes and boost our economy.

The Housing Crunch

Speaking of homes, the labor shortage is making it harder to build new houses in growing areas like Huntsville. These delays drive up prices, making it tougher for Alabama families to find affordable housing.

Leaders Who Get It!

Some elected officials, like Attorney General Steve Marshall (who's running for Senate), are making this a top priority. He gets that construction workers are the backbone of our country.

Investing in Alabama's Future

Alabama's investing millions in local apprenticeship programs, and as they grow in popularity, they can help close that employment gap and provide a straightforward path to high-paying jobs.

Standing with Construction Workers

Ultimately, Alabama needs lawmakers who support the commercial construction industry and understand the importance of our work.

Building Alabama Together!

Candidates like Steve Marshall are aligned with our values and understand the need to revitalize our industry. With support from the state and federal levels, our industry will continue to take Alabama to new heights.

Todd Walker is the Vice President of Associated Builders and Contractors in Alabama.

Chaos on the Strip!

Post-A-Day celebrations in Tuscaloosa turned wild! Police had to shut down the Strip on University Boulevard due to overcrowding and a bunch of fights. Around 20 arrests were made for things like disorderly conduct, pot possession, and, yikes, gun violations. Cops said it was the only way to keep everyone safe, especially with so many young'uns around.

Submarine Factory Coming to Alabama!

Get ready for some serious job creation! A massive $2.4 billion advanced manufacturing plant, called Factory 4, is being built in Cherokee, up in northwest Alabama. This place will be cranking out components for U.S. Navy submarines, both Columbia and Virginia class. The buzz is it'll bring about 1,000 new jobs to the area!

Alabama Politics: Wins, Losses, and Corruption Claims!

Alabama lawmakers patted themselves on the back, delivering on almost all of the Alabama Policy Institute's priorities, including fully funding that CHOOSE Act school choice thing. But, hold up! The Freedom Caucus Network is calling out the Alabama Legislature as potentially super corrupt. They're saying "Goat Hill" ain't fit to form an Alabama Freedom Caucus. Ouch!

Deportations on the Rise!

Looks like Alabama's set to surpass its 2025 deportation numbers. Federal agents have already scooped up almost 1,800 illegal immigrants through March, and more than half have a criminal record. Secretary of State Wes Allen is saying, "This is what we voted for."

Political Shake-Up in Congress!

Drama in D.C.! U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Ca.) reportedly resigned after facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. And, U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) is also stepping down amid a House Ethics Committee investigation.

Montgomery's Crime Crisis: Blame Game!

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is not happy about Montgomery's deadly weekend, with 14 homicides so far this year. He says city officials are making excuses and rejecting help. Meanwhile, Governor-elect (and former Coach) Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is promising big changes, saying "the cavalry is coming" when he takes office.

Tensions Rise in the Middle East!

Things are getting tense! The U.S. has reportedly started a naval blockade of Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz after peace talks in Pakistan fell apart. President Trump is vowing swift action, causing oil prices to skyrocket. China is calling the blockade dangerous, but whispers of new talks in Islamabad are floating around.

AFP-AL Backs Candidates for '26 House Races

Americans for Prosperity Alabama (AFP-AL) just threw their weight behind some key players for the 2026 Alabama House of Representatives races! They're betting on a mix of experience and fresh perspective to champion their vision.

Who Got the Nod?

AFP-AL is backing State Rep. James Lomax (R-Huntsville) for House District 20, State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) for House District 96, and challenger Lloyd Peeples for House District 48.

What AFP-AL is Saying

"James Lomax, Matt Simpson, and Lloyd Peeples? Champions for Alabama families, plain and simple," declared AFP-AL Director Adam Thompson. He highlighted their commitment to educational freedom, regulatory tweaks, tax overhauls, and healthcare improvements. AFP-AL's ready to roll up its sleeves, connect with voters, and spread the word on how these candidates plan to boost freedom and opportunity across the state.

Why These Candidates?

Lomax, a freshman rep and rising star (already House Majority Whip!), is praised for backing school choice, curbing judicial deference, and pushing for lower taxes and less red tape. Simpson, a veteran since 2018, is hailed as a dependable ally on school choice, regulatory reform, judicial deference, and tax policy. Peeples, a former federal prosecutor and small business owner, brings a strong voice for education, regulatory sanity, and healthcare improvements.

Tuberville Revs Up Filibuster Fight...Again!

Senator Tommy Tuberville is back at it, folks! He's reigniting his call to ditch the filibuster, and this time he's got backup from Senator Rick Scott. They're both fired up about pushing through voting integrity legislation before those crucial midterm elections this November.

Scott's Got Tuberville's Back

Tuberville hopped on social media to amplify Scott's message, warning everyone what'll happen if the Dems snatch back the Senate.

Tuberville's Take: "Insane Agenda!"

"Sen. Rick Scott is spot on," Tuberville declared. "We already know Democrats will nuke the filibuster and pass their INSANE agenda the MOMENT they retake the Senate. Let's get rid of the filibuster now and finally DELIVER for the American people before it is too late."

Scott's Filibuster Frustration

Scott's original post argued that the filibuster's been turned into a weapon, going way beyond its original purpose. "The filibuster was NEVER meant to be a permanent veto on the American people," he stated.

Filibuster Facts

Right now, it takes 60 votes to get most legislation moving in the Senate. But with Republicans holding 53 seats, they need almost everyone on their side to clear that hurdle without any help from the Democrats.

Tuberville's Long Game

Tuberville's been on a mission to end the filibuster all year, focusing on the SAVE America Act, a voting bill that'd require photo ID to vote and proof of citizenship to register.

Tide Pride Runs Deep!

Every April, Tuscaloosa transforms into a crimson carnival as Alabama fans flock to Bryant-Denny for the annual Spring Game! Free admission gets you a sneak peek at the Tide's upcoming squad in action.

More Than Just a Game

But the real magic often happens just outside the stadium, near the legendary Denny Chimes. We're talking about the Captain's Ceremony, a time-honored tradition that's pure Bama!

Cementing Legacies

This is where last year's captains get immortalized! Their cleat and handprints are forever etched in concrete, a permanent reminder of their leadership. It's as iconic as a houndstooth hat on Coach Bryant.

Honoring Gridiron Greatness

This year, former QB Ty Simpson (NFL dreams incoming!) was beaming as he received this honor. He was joined by the rock-solid center Parker Brailsford, defensive powerhouse Tim Keenan, and linebacker general Deontae Lawson, all key players for the Tide.

Forever Crimson

They may not be lining up next season, but these four will forever be a part of Alabama history. The Captain's Ceremony isn't just a tradition; it's a concrete guarantee of their legendary status!

My Dad, Baseball, and What It Means to be American

My father wasn't your typical baseball fanatic. But he understood and appreciated American excellence, which is why, in the spring of '73, he took me to my first Major League game.

Shea Stadium Magic

Opening Day. April 6th. Shea Stadium buzzed with excitement. Tom Seaver vs. Steve Carlton – a pitching duel for the ages! Cleon Jones sealed the deal with a two-run homer in the seventh. Mets won 3-0. On the way home, Dad said Seaver was special. I was still buzzing about Jones. We were both right. That day sparked something in me.

A Dodger's Favorite

Last summer, I finally asked my 91-year-old father, a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan who'd seen all the greats, who his favorite player was. His answer surprised me: Jackie Robinson.

Beyond the Grand Narrative

I expected a speech about civil rights, about breaking barriers. But Dad simply said, "Robinson just seemed to do what was needed." No flashy plays, just the right play at the right time.

Singles Win Games

That simple statement spoke volumes about my father and, I believe, what makes a team and a country thrive. He always told me in business: "Willy, you don’t need a home run. Singles are good. Rallies build on them.” He taught me that sustained success comes from consistently doing what needs to be done, without waiting for applause.

An American Obligation

My father instilled in me a sense of American obligation, not as some abstract concept, but as a responsibility.

Thomas Paine and the American Team

Like Thomas Paine's words during a dark time in the Revolution, we need everyone on the field. Not the sunshine patriots, but the ones who, like Jackie Robinson, do what the moment requires, without hesitation.

Playing Ball

My father taught me that singles win games and that the most valuable players are those who show up every day, do their job, and love the team. I love this country, and I believe our best days are ahead.

Baseball's back, and so is America. Let's play ball!
