Big News for Alabama Parents: Religious Instruction During School Hours is Coming!

Get ready, Alabama parents! A new law is hitting the books that could change how your kids get their faith on during the school day. Governor Ivey just signed SB248, also known as the Alabama Released Time Credit Act, and it's a game-changer.

What's the Deal?

Starting July 1, 2026, Alabama schools will have to let parents excuse their kiddos for a bit during the school day for off-campus religious instruction. That's right, no more "maybe" – it's a "shall"!

What are the Exceptions?

Of course, there are a couple of exceptions. Schools can say no if there's solid proof that the off-campus activity would put your child at risk of physical harm, or if it messes with required learning time. Otherwise, it's pretty much a go!

Parental Choice is the Name of the Game

Lieutenant Governor Ainsworth is a big supporter, and he's been shouting from the rooftops about putting parents back in the driver's seat when it comes to their children's education and faith.

How Does It Work?

"Released time" means religious teaching happens off school grounds, thanks to a church or community group. Schools can't sponsor, pay for, or staff these programs. Parents or the sponsoring group are responsible for getting the kids there, and students still gotta make up any missed schoolwork.

What About Local Schools?

While schools don't have to create a released-time policy, most probably will to keep things organized. They can customize their policies, as long as they're not making it harder for parents to participate.

Course Credit, Anyone?

The State Board of Education might even let students earn elective course credit for these programs, depending on the grade level.

Victory for Parental Rights!

The Alabama Policy Institute is celebrating this as a huge win, calling it part of a record-breaking year. With SB248, Alabama schools are moving towards truly putting parental choice first!

Pride Before the Fall: A Warning for Leaders

History is littered with examples of leaders undone by pride. Think Napoleon, humbled after his Russian misadventure, or King Saul, whose arrogance led to his demise. Even David, a man after God's own heart, stumbled through pride with Bathsheba. Pride isn't just a leader's pitfall; it's the root of all sin. When we sin, we're essentially telling God we know better.

Trump's Recent Controversy

Remember the recent uproar over Trump's post depicting himself as Christ? While he took it down, citing confusion over its meaning, this isn't a joke. Blasphemy is a product of pride and has no place in leadership claiming Christian values.

Surrounded by Echo Chambers?

This incident didn't happen in a vacuum. Some of Trump's advisors have even likened him to Jesus, fostering an environment where such portrayals seem acceptable. Without righteous pushback, how can he see the problem?

God's Tool, Not God Himself

Let's be clear: Trump is a force. He filled a void in the Republican Party, and many believe God used him to achieve specific goals, like the overturn of Roe v. Wade. God has a plan, and Trump may be part of it.

However, it's always been bigger than any one person. Effective Christian leadership requires acknowledging you're a vessel for the Holy Spirit. The Presidency, and God's will, are far greater than any individual. Trump's strength and determination have made him a powerful tool, but he's not God.

The Need for Humility

The Kingdom of God needs a strong leader, a warrior in the White House. Trump has the potential to be that warrior, but the Kingdom needs a warrior for Christ. This requires humility, self-awareness, and repentance – qualities Trump needs now more than ever.

Time for a U-Turn

The good news? It's not too late for a change. Trump knows how to stage a comeback. But until he humbles himself and sheds his pride, he can't be the effective vessel God needs him to be.

A Prayer for Our President

President Trump, take a long look in the mirror. Acknowledge your humanity, your sin, and repent. Before God has to humble you himself.

From College Star to NFL Superstar

Remember Anderson's days at Alabama? 34.5 sacks and two Bronko Nagurski Awards! The Texans snagged him as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and clearly, they're thrilled with their investment. He just got paid like the superstar he is!
