Cliff Sims Takes on New White House Role

Alabama's own Cliff Sims is heading back to the White House! The Yellowhammer News founder and former Trump administration official has been tapped as Vice President JD Vance's principal national security and foreign policy advisor.

From Alabama Roots to National Stage

This latest move adds another impressive chapter to Sims' career, taking him from the heart of Alabama politics to the highest levels of U.S. national security.

Vance Welcomes Sims to the Team

"Cliff has been a good friend and advisor on the outside, and I’m excited to now have him with me in this new role in the White House," Vance told reporters.

A Critical Role in a Complex World

Sims will join Andy Baker in expanding the vice president’s foreign policy team at a crucial time, as the administration navigates various international conflicts, including the situations in Ukraine and involving Iran.

High Praise from Former Colleagues

Former CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who worked with Sims during the Trump administration, vouched for his expertise. He noted, "Cliff served as one of my deputies when I was DNI, and I saw firsthand his exceptional judgment and command of the most sensitive national security matters."

Trump Jr. Highlights Sims' "America First" Expertise

Donald Trump Jr. also applauded the selection, emphasizing Sims' long-standing commitment to Trump's agenda. "Cliff has been with my father since his first campaign in 2016 and knows his America First foreign policy agenda inside and out," Trump Jr. stated.

A Diverse Background

Sims' journey includes founding Yellowhammer News, serving in key roles in the Trump White House, and even writing a bestselling memoir ("Team of Vipers"). He's also led Telegraph Creative, a Birmingham-based agency, and served on the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

Alabama Native Lands Key White House Role

Cliff Sims, Yellowhammer News founder and a veteran of the Trump White House, is heading back to Washington! Politico reports that he's been tapped as Vice President JD Vance's principal national security and foreign policy advisor.

From Alabama to the White House... Again!

This is another impressive step in Sims' journey from Alabama politics to the heart of national security. Vance himself is thrilled, calling Sims a "good friend and advisor."

Stepping Up During Critical Times

Sims will be working alongside Andy Baker, beefing up the VP's foreign policy team at a crucial time, with conflicts raging in Ukraine, Russia and Iran.

High Praise from Former Bosses

Former CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who worked with Sims during Trump's first term, raves about his "exceptional judgment" and command of sensitive national security matters. Donald Trump Jr. also chimed in, noting Sims' deep understanding of the "America First" agenda.

A Colorful Career Path

Sims' story is definitely unique. He founded Yellowhammer News, served in the Trump White House, even penned the tell-all "Team of Vipers" (which caused some initial friction). The two later patched things up and Sims was tapped to lead messaging and speechwriting for the 2020 Republican National Convention before moving to the intelligence community. Before this latest move, he returned to Alabama and led a marketing agency.

Sports Betting on Campus: The Unspoken Reality

Sports gambling. It's everywhere, right? Especially on college campuses. Just flip on ESPN, scroll through X, or tune into any sports podcast – the odds are constantly in our face.

Alabama's Betting Paradox

What might surprise you is that Alabama doesn't allow legal online sports betting. So, what are students doing? They're often stuck with shady offshore platforms or illegal operations.

The Wild West of Unregulated Betting

This unregulated, unchecked market is booming on Alabama campuses. Lawmakers have the power to change this. They could usher in protected gaming and shut down these predatory practices!

Legalizing: It's About Safety

Legalizing sports betting isn't just about access, it's about responsible gaming resources, age and ID verification, and overall safer gaming.

The Dangers of Offshore Platforms

Offshore platforms? They don't verify ages. 16, 17, 18...doesn't matter. If they can make a buck, they'll let you play. Other platforms let 18-year-olds bet!

Debt and No Oversight

These operators have zero oversight and often push credit-based betting. Students end up owing hundreds, sometimes thousands, to illegal bookmakers. These platforms function outside the law, with no real user protections.

Regulation: The Only Solution

The only way to curb these predatory practices is to offer a regulated alternative: legalized sports betting with strong safeguards. Legalization brings transparency, oversight, verified operators, guaranteed payouts, dispute resolution, and strict age verification.

Protecting Consumers

A regulated market protects consumers with clear accountability standards. Illegal markets lack this. It helps reduce the influence of black-market operators, creates enforceable licensing, and lets authorities monitor transactions, shutting down illegal activity.

A Generational Divide? A New Moral Question

Some older folks see gambling as harmful, but sports betting is already here – completely unregulated. Instead of letting young people flock to illegal sportsbooks, the new moral question is: will Alabama legalize and regulate, creating a safer environment?

The Consequences of Inaction

If lawmakers stick with the status quo, predatory gambling will keep growing. Illegal operators will rake in the cash, while Alabama loses millions in potential tax dollars that could be used to educate young people about addiction and crack down on bad actors.

Time for Action

Our leaders need to act! Be thoughtful and pragmatic, because the status quo is a losing game for everyone, especially young people.

Sports Gambling on Campus: A Reality Check

Walk around any college campus, and you'll hear the buzz about sports gambling. It's plastered across ESPN, dominates X feeds, and fills every sports podcast. The big question? "What's the line?"

The Alabama Paradox

Here's the kicker: despite its prevalence, Alabama doesn't allow legal, regulated online sports betting. This forces students into the arms of illegal bookies and sketchy offshore platforms.

The Unregulated Wild West

This unregulated market is booming on Alabama campuses. Lawmakers have the power to change this by ushering in protected gaming. Legalizing sports betting offers responsible gaming resources, age verification, and overall safer experiences.

The Dangers of the Shadows

Offshore platforms often skip age verification entirely. Whether you're 16 or 18, if you can generate profit for them, they will let you play. Emerging "prediction" platforms, like Kalshi, allow 18-year-olds to place bets. These operators have no real oversight and encourage betting on credit. For college students, this can lead to massive debt with no legal recourse.

Regulation: The Only Solution

The most effective way to curb these predatory practices? Offer a regulated alternative with strong consumer safeguards. Legalization brings transparency, requires verified operators, enforces guaranteed payouts, provides dispute resolution, and ensures strict age and identity verification.

Protecting Consumers and Cutting Off the Black Market

A regulated market establishes clear accountability standards, something illegal markets lack. Simultaneously, it reduces the influence of black-market operators by creating enforceable licensing systems, allowing authorities to monitor transactions and shut down illegal activity.

A New Moral Question

While some view gambling negatively, sports betting is already here, thriving in an unregulated environment. The real question is: will Alabama legalize and regulate the activity to create a safer environment?

The Cost of Inaction

If Alabama sticks with the status quo, predatory gambling operations will continue to grow, lining their pockets while the state loses millions in potential tax revenue – money that could be used to combat addiction and educate young people.

Time for Action

I urge our leaders to act thoughtfully and pragmatically. The status quo is a losing proposition for everyone, especially young people.

Ernie Yarbrough: Public Ed's Biggest Hater?

They say, "Believe people when they tell you who they are." Well, Rep. Ernie Yarbrough's been telling us about his feelings on public education for years. And honestly, it's getting hard to ignore the question: Why the hate?

He proudly reps the homeschool life – his, his kids', and seemingly, everyone else's. That's cool; Alabama's a free state. But what's right for him isn't necessarily right for the folks he represents.

The Critic Who's Never Tasted the Food

It's like watching a restaurant critic trash a place they've never eaten at! Every session, every post, every chat seems to circle back to: public schools bad, teachers suspect, system broken. It's almost a reflex.

Ask him about anything – roads, broadband, the weather – and somehow, public schools are to blame. Seriously, if your truck won't start, give Ernie a sec; he'll find a way to drag in a third-grade teacher.

The "Bait and Switch" Accusation

Now he's claiming teacher payroll deductions are secretly funding "left-wing causes." Seriously? Payroll deduction is a standard, voluntary thing thousands of educators use – like deductions for insurance or retirement.

And the bill number is HB666? (Yeah, we see you.) He calls it a "classic example of bait and switch." The irony! Most teachers think they're the ones getting "bait and switched" by politicians promising support and then treating them like pinatas.

Mrs. Johnson: Secret Mastermind?

Alabama's teachers – who already buy their own supplies and work second jobs – are now being painted as shadowy political conspirators. In Ernie-world, the people teaching your kids to read are the real threat. Because nothing says "credible policymaking" like suggesting Mrs. Johnson, buying glue sticks with her own cash, is secretly planning a left-wing takeover.

A Personal Crusade?

Ernie Yarbrough's never been part of the public school system, never trusted it, never sent his kids. His constant attacks feel less like a policy disagreement and more like a personal crusade.

And that crusade has consequences. Public schools are the backbone of rural Alabama. They're the biggest employer, the community center, the Friday night hangout. When a legislator undermines them, he's attacking the towns that rely on them.

The Question Ernie Avoids

So here's the question: If public schools are so terrible, why do the people who use them – parents, teachers, students – keep fighting for them, while the loudest critics are the ones who've never set foot inside? Maybe the issue isn't the schools at all. Maybe it's that public education represents something Ernie can't control.

Alabama deserves better than a representative who treats public education like the enemy. Our teachers deserve respect, and our communities deserve leaders who build, not tear down.

So, we're left wondering: Why does Ernie Yarbrough loathe public education so much? And why is he so determined to spread the hate?

image

Ernie Yarbrough: Public Education's Biggest Detractor?

Remember that old saying, "Believe people when they show you who they are?" Well, after years of watching Rep. Ernie Yarbrough's attacks on public education, we have to ask: what's his problem with it?

This is a guy who proudly touts his homeschool background and makes it sound like everyone should follow suit. Alabama's a free state, sure, but what's right for one legislator isn't always right for his constituents. It seems the only thing he learned at home was how to lecture everyone else about a system he's never experienced!

The Odd Obsession

Why is someone who's never set foot in a public school so obsessed with tearing it down? It's like a restaurant critic who's never tasted food telling everyone where not to eat.

Every legislative session, every Facebook post, every radio appearance... it all circles back to the same thing: public schools are awful, teachers are suspicious, and the whole system is beyond repair. It's almost a knee-jerk reaction. Ask him about anything, he'll find a way to drag in those public schools.

The Latest Target: Teacher Payroll Deductions

Now, he's claiming that teacher payroll deductions are secretly funding "left-wing causes" through the Alabama Education Association. Please! Payroll deduction is a basic service for educators' professional memberships, just like deductions for insurance or retirement.

And the bill number? HB666, which many see as a symbolic attack on public education and teachers. He even calls it a "classic example of bait and switch," but most teachers would say it's the politicians who promise support and then treat them like political punching bags.

Painting Teachers as Conspirators

Alabama teachers, who already buy their own supplies and work second jobs, are now being painted as part of some shadowy conspiracy. In Ernie's world, the people teaching your kids to read are the real threat. Give us a break.

It seems less like a policy disagreement and more like a personal crusade.

The Real Impact

This crusade has consequences. Public schools are the backbone of Alabama, especially in rural areas. They're the largest employer in many counties, the community center, the gathering place. When a legislator undermines them, he's attacking the towns that depend on them.

The Unanswered Question

So, here's the question Ernie Yarbrough never seems to want to answer:

If public schools are so terrible, why are the people who actually use them fighting for them, while the loudest critics are those who have never stepped inside? Maybe public education represents something Ernie can't control or reshape.

Alabama deserves better than a representative who treats public education like a personal enemy. Our teachers deserve respect, and our communities deserve leaders who build, not tear down.

Until then, we're left wondering: Why does Ernie Yarbrough hate public education so much? And why is he so determined to spread the dislike?

Tuberville Enshrined in Alabama Sports Hall of Fame!

Over the weekend, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) achieved Hall of Fame status, being inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame alongside former Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell! A star-studded class, indeed.

Tuberville's Auburn legacy is legendary, boasting six Iron Bowl victories and an unforgettable undefeated season in 2004.

More Than Just Football

But instead of dwelling on personal triumphs, Tuberville used his acceptance speech to champion the game itself, the chance to coach, and the vital role sports play in shaping our nation.

God, Family, Military, and...Sports!

"There's four things that I think make this country. God, family, our military, and sports," he declared. He believes these pillars instill values and foster growth, both individually and collectively. "Sports is what make this country great. It really is."

A Unique Perspective

Having navigated both the sports arena and the political landscape, Tuberville offered a unique perspective. Without diving into politics, he expressed gratitude for being born in a nation where hard work paves the way to success.

Land of Opportunity

"This is not gonna be a political speech, but... we were born in the greatest country in the world and had that opportunity." He emphasized that America provides the chance; it's up to each individual to seize it. "Put your nose to the damn grindstone and you earn whatever you want."

A Well-Deserved Honor

Tuberville's induction is a testament to his profound impact on Alabama's athletic scene over the past three decades. Congrats, Coach!

Redistricting: It's an Old Game, Chum!

Forget the spin! Democrats aren't the only ones playing the redistricting game, and Texas didn't invent it in 2025. This political maneuver of drawing district lines to favor one party over another is practically as old as America itself.

A Blast From the Past

Back in 1788, even Patrick Henry tried to rig the system to keep James Madison out of Congress! And the term "gerrymandered" comes from way back in 1812, thanks to Massachusetts Governor Elbridge Gerry.

The DOJ Steps In

A big shift happened in 1990 when the Department of Justice started pushing states to create majority-Black districts. This was a result of changes to the Voting Rights Act and a Supreme Court ruling, leading to 13 new districts designed to elect Black representatives.

Democrats Take the Reins

More recently, Democrats jumped on this opportunity, especially after Trump's 2016 win. Eric Holder, Obama's Attorney General, launched the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) with serious funding to sue states into redrawing districts for maximum Democratic advantage.

Redrawing the Map

While that was happening, Democrat-controlled states were also busy trying to eliminate as many Republican districts as possible. Thanks to population shifts, California, New York, and Illinois redrew their maps, costing Republicans seven seats.

The Texas Gambit

Republicans mostly sat on the sidelines until Texas decided to redraw its maps in 2025, potentially adding five Republican districts. California retaliated with a plan to create five more Democratic districts. This kicked off a new redistricting war across the country.

The Supreme Court Weighs In

But things took another turn with a Supreme Court ruling (Callais v. Louisiana) stating that drawing districts based solely on race is unconstitutional. Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Tennessee are now revisiting their maps.

A Divided Nation?

The result? The U.S. is becoming more divided, not just by districts, but by regions and values. The redistricting fight isn't over, but one thing is clear: Republicans have gained ground and highlighted the contrast between their traditional values and the Democrats' leftward lean. This contrast could be a game-changer in upcoming elections.

image

Redistricting: Not a Texas 2025 Invention!

Let's set the record straight, ChumCityzens! The current redistricting hullabaloo isn't some newfangled scheme cooked up in Texas in 2025, despite what some folks might say. Manipulating district lines for political gain? That's an American tradition as old as apple pie... and maybe even older!

A History Lesson in Gerrymandering

Back in 1788, before we even had TikTok, Patrick Henry tried to rig Virginia's congressional districts to keep James Madison out of Congress. The term "gerrymandering" itself popped up in 1812, thanks to Massachusetts Governor Elbridge Gerry, whose oddly-shaped district looked suspiciously like a salamander. Talk about creative map-making!

The Rise of "Majority-Minority" Districts

Fast forward to 1990, and we saw a major shift. The Justice Department started pushing states to create congressional districts with majority Black populations, fueled by the Voting Rights Act. This led to the creation of 13 new majority Black districts.

Democrats Join the Fray

More recently, Democrats have been playing the redistricting game with gusto. After Trump's 2016 win, former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder formed the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, funded by various liberal groups. Their mission? Sue states into redrawing districts to create more "majority-minority" areas, boosting Democrat chances.

Redistricting by Lawsuit and Legislation

While the leftist media stayed mum, lawsuits were filed against Alabama and Louisiana, leading to court-drawn maps that added two more Black Democrat districts. Meanwhile, Democrat-controlled states were busy redrawing their own districts to minimize Republican wins. States like California, New York, and Illinois, Democrats tried to eliminate as many Republican districts as possible.

The Latest Redistricting War

Republicans were pretty chill until Texas decided to redraw its districts mid-decade, potentially adding five Republican seats. California retaliated, aiming for five more Democratic districts. This sparked a redistricting war, with multiple states redrawing maps before the 2030 census.

SCOTUS Enters the Chat

Now, the Supreme Court's Callais v. Louisiana decision has thrown another wrench into the works. The court declared that drawing congressional districts based on race is unconstitutional. Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Tennessee are now scrambling to redraw their maps again.

Divided We Stand?

The result? A more divided nation, not just by districts, but by regions and values. While the redistricting fight continues, Republicans have made gains and highlighted the contrast between traditional values and the Democrats' supposed shift towards socialism.

Ultimately, this clash of ideologies could be the game-changer in the upcoming elections.
