Honoring Alabama's Finest During National Police Week

It's National Police Week, and I'm reminded of the incredible honor it is to stand alongside the brave men and women of Alabama law enforcement. This week isn't just about recognizing those serving today; it's about remembering those who came before us, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It's a time for reflection, remembrance, and a whole lot of gratitude for these hardworking heroes.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

As Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association, I get to serve sheriffs across this amazing state. Our communities rely on local law enforcement every single day to keep their families safe. But we can't do it alone! Strong partnerships at the state and federal levels are crucial for providing us with the resources we need to keep up with the demands of the job.

Senator Britt: A Champion for Law Enforcement

That’s why I'm giving a shout-out to Senator Katie Britt, who's proven to be a true champion for Alabama law enforcement. From day one, her support has been rock solid. Whether it's leading the charge on initiatives that get dangerous individuals off our streets or working hard on the Appropriations Committee, she's made sure that law enforcement agencies all over the state have the tools they need to protect Alabamians.

Crime Stopper of the Year

It's no surprise that Senator Britt was awarded the Crime Stopper of the Year Award in 2025, recognizing her advocacy for law enforcement at every level.

Dollars and Sense: Investing in Our Safety

Over the past few appropriations cycles, Senator Britt has secured over $12.6 million in law enforcement-related funding for 20 counties across Alabama! Law enforcement agencies face evolving threats and are asked to do more than ever before, so Senator Britt’s hard work in securing funding for those departments is crucial. This support makes a real, tangible difference in the lives of our officers.

Standing Strong with Law Enforcement

Policing today is tough. And while public opinion towards law enforcement has had its ups and downs, Senator Britt’s support has never wavered. She gets the realities of our profession and knows that our officers are working tirelessly to keep Alabama's streets safe and communities strong. I've seen firsthand their dedication and sacrifices.

An Advocate in Washington

My role is to support them in every way I can, but there's only so much I can do locally. That’s why having an advocate like Senator Britt fighting for us at the federal level is so vital.

Her leadership leads to real results: better equipment to protect our officers, updated vehicles, and improved communication tools to help us respond to our communities.

A Call to Action: Thank an Officer!

This week, please take a moment to thank a local law enforcement officer. Their sacrifices should be celebrated all year long. My commitment remains the same: to support our officers, strengthen our departments, and serve Alabama. I'm dedicated to working with leaders like Senator Britt to continue building a safer Alabama for all.

Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack is the current Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association and former President. He served as Baldwin County Sheriff for 17 years and has served Alabama law enforcement for 39 years.

Alabama Parents Know Best!

Let's be real, folks: Alabama parents get their kids. Way more than some school administrator miles away! It's not political, it's just...true. More and more families are shouting this from the rooftops.

For too long, kids and families needing something different were left in the dust. But thankfully, online education is shaking things up!

Virtual Schools: A Lifeline?

Been doing some digging into these district-based virtual schools, and what I've found is amazing. So many students with special needs, anxiety, or just a need for a learning environment outside the traditional classroom are thriving! These programs are a real lifeline.

Meet the Butlers!

Loviessa Butler, educator and mom of three, knows this firsthand. Her twins, Hosea and Nala, have significant learning needs. Hosea is nonverbal and has autism. Nala faces speech delays and intellectual disabilities. A traditional classroom? Not the best fit.

Enter Alabama Destinations Career Academy! Suddenly, Hosea is recognizing letters and saying words! Nala? Reading aloud with confidence, learning at her own speed! Even her youngest, Samya, is crushing it at Alabama Virtual Academy, with a flexible gifted program that lets her learn her way. Three kids, three paths, one empowered family!

Nick's Story

Then there's Nick Limberakis, a retired vet who served our country for sixteen years. His son John battled crippling social anxiety. Traditional school? A nightmare. In 2019, Alabama Virtual Academy changed everything. It wasn't overnight, but John went from paralyzed by fear to a confident ninth grader ready for dual enrollment!

Mr. Limberakis says it plain and simple: without this option, his son could have been a statistic. Instead, he found a future.

It's Not Just a "Radical Experiment"

The growth of virtual schools proves this ain't some crazy experiment. These are real stories, real lives, and real proof that one-size-fits-all doesn't work!

Conservatives get it: competition and choice lead to better results. Parents aren't obstacles; they're partners! When parents choose what's best for their kid, that's parental rights in action.

Critics whine about the "dismantling" of public ed, but they forget the thousands of Alabama kids stuck in a system that just doesn't work for them.

The Butler twins weren't a budget line item. Limberakis's son wasn't a statistic. They were kids who needed something different, and Alabama gave it to them.

More to Come!

I'm excited to highlight the benefits of virtual schools more in the future! The tech is here. The programs are working. And most importantly, families are grateful we're finally listening.

Alabama Parents Know Best!

Let's be real, folks: Alabama parents know what their kids need better than anyone in Montgomery or some school district office. It's not about politics, it's about families stepping up and making their voices heard.

Virtual Schools: A Lifeline for Many

For too long, kids who needed something different were left behind. But guess what? Online educational options are changing the game! We're hearing amazing stories about how virtual schools are helping students thrive, especially those with special needs, anxiety, or who just don't fit the mold of a traditional classroom. It's about personalized learning, plain and simple!

Real Stories, Real Results

Take Loviessa Butler, a mom of three. Her twins, Hosea and Nala, have significant learning needs. Traditional school? Not the best fit. But after enrolling them in Alabama Destinations Career Academy, everything changed! Hosea started recognizing letters and even speaking! Nala? She's reading with confidence! And her youngest, Samya, gets to learn at her own pace in a gifted program through Alabama Virtual Academy. Three kids, three paths, one family empowered to choose!

Turning the Tide

Then there's Nick Limberakis, a veteran whose son John struggled with severe social anxiety. Traditional school was a nightmare. Enter Alabama Virtual Academy in 2019. The transformation wasn't instant, but it was profound. Now? This ninth-grader is preparing for dual enrollment courses and has a bright future ahead! Mr. Limberakis says it best: without this option, his son might have been a statistic.

Choice Matters

Virtual schools aren't a radical experiment. They're proof that one-size-fits-all doesn't work. Alabama conservatives get it: competition and choice lead to better results. Parents aren't the enemy; they're partners! Choosing the right option for your child is what parental rights are all about.

A System That Works For Every Child

Critics whine about "dismantling" public education, but what about the kids trapped in a system that isn't working for them? Ms. Butler's twins and Mr. Limberakis's son are proof that personalized learning is possible.

The Future Is Bright

We need more of this! The technology's there. The programs are working. And most importantly, families are grateful we're listening.

Senator Tuberville Drops Immigration Bomb!

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) just lit the Senate floor on fire with a speech unveiling the "Assimilation Act!" Tuberville's aiming to shake up the whole immigration system, focusing on who can really contribute to the good ol' U.S. of A.

What's the Deal?

Tuberville's bill is all about prioritizing merit, self-sufficiency, and a wholehearted buy-in to American values. According to Tuberville, living here is a privilege, not a right.

The Nitty-Gritty

So, what's in this bill? It's looking to scrap chain migration and the diversity visa lottery. Plus, it wants a "national-interest standard" for who gets in, aims to nail visa overstays, and wants citizenship to show true commitment and civic involvement.

Tuberville's Take

"America has a right to set immigration policy in the national interest," says Tuberville. He wants a system that favors folks ready to work hard, chip in, and make the U.S. even stronger.

Race Card? Nope!

Tuberville's firing back at anyone claiming this is about race. He insists assimilation is all about values. It doesn't mean ditching your heritage or faith, just embracing a shared belief system.

Tuberville: Immigration Watchdog

This isn't Tuberville's first rodeo. He's been a vocal immigration hawk in the Senate, previously challenging experts on foreign influence and backing Trump's border security plans.

Warning!

"Mass migration without assimilation will erase our country’s identity," Tuberville warns. "When a nation loses the courage to define itself, it invites others to redefine it beyond recognition."

Senator Tuberville Drops Immigration Bombshell!

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) lit up the Senate floor Tuesday, unveiling the "Assimilation Act"—legislation aiming to revamp the nation's immigration system to reward merit, self-reliance, and dedication to American ideals.

"Privilege, Not a Right!"

"It's a privilege, not a right, to live in the United States of America," Tuberville declared, setting the stage for a major debate.

What's in the Bill?

The bill takes aim at chain migration and the diversity visa lottery. It proposes a "national-interest" standard for admissions, vows to crack down on visa overstays, and insists that citizenship reflects "commitment, character, and real civic integration," according to Tuberville.

A "Simple" Solution?

"My bill is simple," Tuberville stated. "America has a right to set immigration policy in the national interest. Our system should favor folks who will work hard, contribute, support themselves, and strengthen the United States of America."

Assimilation: Not About Race!

Tuberville defended his proposal against charges of racial motivation, insisting, "Assimilation has absolutely nothing to do with race. It's about values. It doesn't mean you abandon your heritage or your faith or forget where you’re from. It’s about embracing a new shared belief system."

A Vocal Immigration Hawk

Tuberville has been a leading voice on immigration issues in the Senate, previously tackling foreign influence in the pharmaceutical industry and backing President Trump's border security plans.

Warning: Identity at Stake!

"Mass migration without assimilation will erase our country’s identity," Tuberville warned. "When a nation loses the courage to define itself, it invites others to redefine it beyond recognition."
