BeefPAC Stampedes to Support Allen & Robertson!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens! Alabama BeefPAC, the muscle behind the Alabama Cattlemen's Association, has just thrown its considerable weight behind two candidates in the upcoming 2026 elections.

Allen Gets the BeefPAC Nod for Lt. Governor

Secretary of State Wes Allen is getting some serious love in his bid for Lieutenant Governor. Alabama Cattlemen's Association President Keith Glover gushed about Allen's "proven, conservative, business-friendly track record." Allen, clearly thrilled, thanked the cattle producers, emphasizing how crucial their industry is to Alabama's economy and national security.

Robertson Saddles Up for Attorney General with BeefPAC's Backing

Katherine Robertson is also riding high after receiving BeefPAC's endorsement for Attorney General. Executive Vice President Erin Beasley praised Robertson's decade-long service and understanding of the challenges facing cattlemen. Robertson, who proudly declares herself the granddaughter of a cattleman, vowed to protect property rights and fight excessive regulations if elected.

How This All Shakes Out

BeefPAC doesn't hand out endorsements directly; they flex their political muscle through strategic support. Allen's facing a crowded primary field that includes some heavy hitters. Robertson is also up against tough competition in her race for Attorney General.

Alabama Insurance Costs Skyrocketing? You Betcha!

Hold on to your wallets, ChumCity! A new report from the Alabama Department of Insurance says liability insurance costs are going bonkers. Jury verdicts are getting bigger, and lawsuits are piling up faster than you can say "tort reform!"

What's Driving Up the Costs?

This ain't just inflation, folks. From 2020 to 2024, the average liability claim cost jumped a whopping 59%! Even though the number of claims stayed pretty steady, insurance companies are paying out way more per claim.

Expert Weighs In

Lars Powell from The University of Alabama's Center for Risk and Insurance Research says this report shows liability costs are a major problem—costing roughly $880 per household in 2024! He suggests lawmakers need to pay attention if they want to bring down those rising insurance bills.

Lawsuits: The Real Culprits?

The report suggests lawsuits are a major factor, even though they're only a small piece of the overall claims pie. Less than 10% of claims involve legal action, but they account for over a third of all the money paid out. Plus, legal claims take way longer to resolve and cost a whole lot more in defense.

Other States Show the Way?

Harrison Proctor from Alabamians for Legal Reform points to Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana, which have implemented tort reform measures. He says these states are already seeing lower premiums and increased competition. Could Alabama be next?

Million-Dollar Claims on the Rise!

The number of claims exceeding a cool million doubled between 2020 and 2024. And legal claims maxing out policy limits are also becoming more common. Ouch!

Insurance Companies Blame…

Aggressive lawyers, escalating jury awards, medical overbilling, litigation financing, and a whole lot of attorney advertising. Sounds like a recipe for expensive insurance!

Is Tort Reform the Answer?

The report highlights how reforms in other states (Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana) have led to premium reductions and more insurers entering the market. Maybe Alabama should take a look!

Alabama News Roundup - What's Buzzing?

Bama Man's Alleged Biden Plot

Whoa! An Alabama dude, Adam Benjamin Hall, is in hot water. He's accused of driving all the way to Atlanta with a plan to take out President Biden during the CNN debate. Apparently, this guy was fueled by strong pro-Palestine views and even had a manifesto calling for violence. Yikes!

No Puffing in Public, Please!

The Alabama Senate just passed a bill that's cracking down on vaping. Say goodbye to electronic cigarettes in public indoor spaces and vehicles with minors. The goal? To keep everyone healthy and avoid secondhand vape exposure. Smart move?

Mask Mandate May Need a Note?

Heads up, protesters! If you're planning to wear a mask at a rally, you might need a doctor's note soon. The Alabama State House just passed a bill that makes protesting with a mask a crime. They say it's all about public safety and being able to identify people. Is anonymity a thing of the past?

Tuberville's Halftime Show Choice

Senator Tommy Tuberville is making headlines with his halftime entertainment preferences. He's ditching Bad Bunny's "Woke Bowl" performance for the Turning Point USA halftime show. He even playfully called Bad Bunny "Bad Rabbit," criticizing the performance's expected over-the-top nature.

More Alabama Protests & ICE Controversy

Following the ICE killing of Alex Pretti, even more vigils and demonstrations are popping up across Alabama. No word yet on whether these events will include the same behavior Pretti displayed before his death.

Sewell vs. Tuberville on ICE Funding

Representative Terri Sewell is joining the push to defund ICE and impeach DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. Meanwhile, Senator Tommy Tuberville called the protester deaths unfortunate but preventable. Adding fuel to the fire, ICE arrested a dozen people in North Alabama slated for deportation.

Government Shutdown Drama (Again!)

Remember that deal to avoid a government shutdown? Yeah, it might be falling apart. Even though Democrats have been raging about ICE, they continue to fund it. Speaker Mike Johnson thinks a bigger shutdown is inevitable. Will they or won't they shut it down? Stay tuned!

Minneapolis Under Pressure: It's Not What You Think

What's happening in Minneapolis isn't just a spontaneous outburst or social grievances bubbling over. It's a calculated move playing out according to a well-worn playbook – prioritizing pressure tactics, public shaming, and twisting the narrative over facts and due process.

The Real Agenda: Power Plays

The stated reason is never the real reason. The real goal? Power. And Minneapolis? It's being treated less like a community needing help and more like a piece of territory to conquer.

The Predictable Pattern

You know the drill: A triggering incident happens, then snap judgments fly before any investigation can even start. Emotion trumps evidence. Institutions are pressured to bend or break their own rules in the name of compassion or supposed moral urgency.

Compliance and Escalation

If they give in, that bending becomes the new normal. If they stand their ground, expect things to escalate – mockery, intimidation, and amped-up pressure. Every concession is seen as proof that the strategy works; restraint? That's just weakness.

Missing the Point?

Of course, nobody wants to see lives lost. That's a given.

But if the media and political elites are going to sensationalize the lives of protestors who put themselves in harm's way with law enforcement, then the innocent lives lost to violent crime – especially those crimes committed by individuals who shouldn't even be in the country – deserve the same spotlight.

The Uncomfortable Truth

A young woman like Laken Riley shouldn't vanish from the national conversation simply because her story doesn't fit a neat narrative. Sure, disorder and chaos might boost ratings, but the stories of quiet victims don't. That imbalance should bother anyone claiming the moral high ground.

What's Really Being Tested

Our leaders need to see the bigger picture here. This isn't just about immigration or policing in one city. It's about whether our institutions can be strong-armed into abandoning their own standards under pressure and moral blackmail.

A Dangerous Precedent

If the pressure succeeds once, it sets a precedent. If it fails, they'll just move on to the next target. The goal isn't to convince; it's to submit.

Minneapolis as a Case Study

Minneapolis is important because it's being used as a test case. What happens here will spread. Remember 2020, when cities rushed to defund the police before anyone had time to think through the consequences?

The Irony

In Minneapolis, officials promised to "reimagine policing," but violent crime skyrocketed while residents in high-crime areas begged for more protection, not less.

Lessons Unlearned?

Cities like Portland and San Francisco initially tolerated disorder in the name of justice, only to reverse course years later after businesses bolted and public safety crumbled.

The lesson should be clear: Appeasement doesn't calm the storm; it fuels it. Institutions that ditch their standards invite more pressure, not resolution.

Narrative vs. Reality

By 2021, 60% of urban police departments admitted to scaling back proactive enforcement because they feared public backlash. That's how narrative pressure changes behavior in the real world.

This isn't about ignoring legitimate concerns or letting anyone off the hook. It's about seeing when cities are being used as disposable props for political theater, while victims who don't fit the narrative are ignored. Minneapolis isn't just facing unrest; it's facing a trial run. How its leaders respond will have far-reaching consequences.

Cullman County Students Get a Voter Registration Boost!

Cullman County high school seniors got a serious dose of civic engagement this month, thanks to a voter registration tour led by State Rep. Cindy Myrex (R-Cullman) and political commentator Brilyn Hollyhand. The mission? To get those eligible seniors registered and ready to rock the vote!

Hitting the Halls of Higher Learning

Hollyhand, a fresh face on the political scene, swung by seven high schools in the county during the first week of the tour. He chatted with students and dropped some knowledge bombs about the registration process. Good Hope, West Point, Cold Springs, Hanceville, Holly Pond, Fairview, and Vinemont high schools all got a visit.

A Big Thumbs Up from Rep. Myrex!

Myrex was stoked to have Hollyhand visit, saying Cullman County schools were "honored." She emphasized how crucial it is for young folks to get involved in the democratic process.

A Passion Project Born From Experience

Hollyhand said the tour idea sparked from his own high school days. He remembered helping his classmates register during lunch and wondering why there wasn't a bigger push for high school seniors to get registered.

"I just graduated from high school a few months ago, and remember helping a lot of my friends register to vote in the lunchroom," Hollyhand said.

After sharing his idea with Myrex, she invited him to kick off the tour in her district. The tour involved presentations and a QR code system to help eligible students register to vote. Hollyhand is a 19-year-old Auburn University political science student and the author of "One Generation Away: Why Now is the Time to Restore American Freedom."

Holy Trash, Batman! Man Survives Being Crushed in Garbage Truck... TWICE!

Talk about a garbage day gone wrong! An Alabama man is lucky to be alive after a truly unbelievable incident in Jackson.

Waking Up in a Trash Compactor?

Early risers (and garbage trucks) were in for a surprise around 5:30 a.m. when reports came in of a person inside a garbage truck. Turns out, the poor guy had been compressed not once, but twice along the truck's route – first at a KFC, then at a Hampton Inn.

Popeyes to the Rescue!

Thankfully, the driver heard someone yelling for help near a Popeyes. He immediately stopped the truck and shut down the machinery. First responders prepped for the worst, but according to volunteer firefighter Mendy Boldin, they found him alive! "We were all shocked," she said. "It was a God thing."

Seeking Warmth, Facing Danger

Officials believe the man, thought to be homeless, was trying to stay warm by sleeping in a dumpster. This incident highlights the serious dangers faced by those seeking shelter in trash containers, especially during cold weather. He was taken to a Mobile hospital for treatment; his condition is currently unknown.

Under Review

The incident is still under investigation. Let's hope this guy has the best darn lucky streak after this ordeal. Yikes!

Leeds Police Chief Issues Warning

Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin is sending a clear message: don't mess with law enforcement in Alabama, especially when it comes to immigration matters.

Traffic Stop Turns into Obstruction Arrest

Here's what went down: A traffic stop involving Jacob Garcia Martinez, who allegedly had meth and a stolen handgun and was reportedly in the country illegally, took an unexpected turn.

The Interference

Enter Mary Lisa Everling, who allegedly drove up, blocked the road, laid on the horn, and started yelling. According to reports, she was promptly arrested for "Obstructing Governmental Operations."

Chief Irwin's Stance

"You might can do that somewhere else, but not here in Alabama," Chief Irwin stated firmly. He emphasized that interfering with lawful traffic stops or arrests, regardless of the suspect's immigration status or the charges against them (like meth, a stolen firearm, and drug paraphernalia), will result in arrest.

A Different Story?

Everling's family claims she didn't know Martinez and only stopped because the police were blocking her driveway.

Martinez's Charges and Detention

Meanwhile, Martinez is facing a slew of charges, including firearm possession, receiving stolen property, obstructing justice, drug possession, and paraphernalia charges. He's currently chilling in the Jefferson County Jail on a $55,000 bond, and will be handed over to ICE upon release.

Bruce Pearl Sounds Off on Rutgers' Red Ink

Hold on to your hats, ChumCityzens, because college sports finances are getting CRAY-ZAY! Former Auburn hoops guru Bruce Pearl recently weighed in on the shocking financial woes of Rutgers University Athletics.

The Rutgers Money Pit

Word on the street (or rather, NJ.com) is that Rutgers, a Big Ten player, is swimming in a $78 MILLION deficit for 2025. Ouch! Clay Travis from Outkick chimed in, pointing out that Rutgers has bled a staggering $516.9 million since joining the Big Ten back in 2014. Talk about sticker shock!

Pearl's Take: Not Gonna Fly!

Pearl didn't mince words, calling this level of financial hemorrhaging "not sustainable." He's got a point!

The Tip of the Iceberg?

Rutgers might just be the canary in the coal mine. With the rise of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, and the looming specter of revenue sharing, many college athletic departments are likely staring down similar financial nightmares. Brace yourselves, because those non-revenue sports could be in serious danger!

Can Pearl Save the Day?

Pearl has always championed student-athletes. Now that he's stepped away from the coaching game, maybe he can help bring some much-needed sanity to the absolute MADNESS that college athletics has become. We're rooting for ya, Bruce!

Bobwhite Quail: A Southern Treasure!

Remember that distinctive "Bob-White" call? This past summer, I was thrilled to hear it again, as a covey of bobwhite quail decided to call my Baldwin County land "home." It's a sound I thought I might never hear again.

Quail Habitat: Key to Survival

Turns out, dense vegetation isn't just pretty—it's crucial for quail survival. Caleb Blake, with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, emphasizes that good habitat is the name of the game.

Where Have All the Quail Gone?

While quail populations aren't what they used to be, Blake assures us that stable populations exist where there's suitable habitat. But what happened? According to Blake, modern farming and timber practices have drastically altered the landscape. "Messy" farming with fallow fields gave way to soil disruption across massive acreage, reducing quail-friendly zones.

Black Belt Blues & Timber Troubles

Even the Alabama Black Belt, historically a prairie, now often provides poor quail habitat with grasses planted for cattle. The booming timber industry also plays a role. Dense tree planting and lack of thinning make many areas unsuitable for quail.

The Magic Toolbox: Fire, Thinning & Herbicides

Blake is a huge advocate for prescribed burns, calling fire the "cheapest and most beneficial" practice. Regular burning controls woody overgrowth and promotes crucial early successional habitat. Thinning forests allows sunlight to reach the ground, encouraging the growth of native grasses and shrubs. Strategic herbicide use can also combat invasive species that degrade habitat quality.

Quail Hunting: A Rich Tradition

Despite the decline, Alabama still boasts dedicated quail hunters. Large private properties actively manage their land, fostering healthy wild populations. Even small landowners can make a difference by working with neighbors.

Hunting Hotspots: Boggy Hollow & Choccolocco

Don't have a quail plantation? No problem! The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division focuses on quail habitat at Boggy Hollow and Choccolocco Wildlife Management Areas. Both WMAs offer quail hunting on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Be sure to check the regulations at outdooralabama.com for specific details.

An Icon Worth Saving

"The bobwhite is an icon of the South," Blake says. "It's a conservation effort most people can get behind." Let's work together to bring back this beloved bird!
