ALEA's Fusion Center: Your Partner in Bringing Loved Ones Home

Hey ChumCity, did you know the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is working hard behind the scenes to help find missing people? Their Alabama Fusion Center is a crucial hub, supporting investigations and coordinating alerts to bring missing and endangered individuals back home.

The Fusion Center: A Central Hub

ALEA says the Fusion Center is like mission control for missing person cases! It's where information is shared, analysis is done, and different agencies work together when a child, vulnerable adult, or even a law enforcement officer goes missing.

ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor emphasizes, "Every alert, every flyer, represents a person who matters. Our mission? To use every tool we have to bring them home safe!"

Understanding the Alert System

Alabama uses four types of alerts:

• AMBER Alert: When a child under 18 is abducted and in serious danger.
• Emergency Missing Child Alert (EMCA): When a child is missing and endangered, but not believed to be abducted.
• Missing and Endangered Person Alert (MEPA): For individuals with mental or physical conditions (like dementia or autism) or who have been abducted and are believed to be in danger.
• Blue Alert: When a law enforcement officer is missing, injured, or killed in the line of duty, and the suspect is a threat.

Remember, only law enforcement can request these alerts, and there's no waiting period to report someone missing.

More Than Just Alerts

Even when a case doesn't meet the specific alert criteria, the Fusion Center still jumps in to help. They provide analytical support and post cases to their Community Information Center, helping local agencies generate leads.

Jay Moseley, Director of the Alabama Fusion Center, explains, "An AMBER Alert is just one tool. Behind every case is a dedicated team working around the clock, analyzing information, coordinating with agencies, and supporting investigators in the field."

By the Numbers

In 2025, the Fusion Center issued 90 missing person alerts and posted an additional 111 cases to raise awareness. It shows they're always on the lookout!

Missouri Goes All In on Sports Betting!

Holy moly, ChumCity crew! Missouri just jumped into the sports betting game as the 39th state to legalize it, and the results from their debut month are jaw-dropping. Meanwhile, Alabama is still on the sidelines!

Massive Wagers in the Show-Me State

According to Bet Missouri, Missourians collectively wagered over $543 million between December 1st and 31st, 2025. That's a whole lotta cheddar being thrown down!

Mobile Mania

Almost all of that action—nearly $539 million—came from mobile betting! Sportsbooks raked in over $20 million in revenue that month, and the state even pocketed more than half a million in wagering taxes. Cha-ching!

FanDuel's Dominance

FanDuel crushed the competition, grabbing almost 40% of the total handle. And experts are predicting these numbers will only skyrocket, especially after navigating some initial launch hiccups.

Christopher Boan of BetMissouri.com says, "This early performance shows that Missouri bettors were eager for a regulated marketplace." Doug Jones Declares War on Library Board?

Former Senator Doug Jones, now vying for Alabama's top spot, seems to be taking aim at members of the state's library board. Apparently, these board members are just trying to protect the kiddos from, shall we say, adult reading material.

"Doug Unplugged" and Unhappy

During a recent livestream, "Doug Unplugged," Jones promised to "get rid of a few people" on the Alabama Public Library Service Board. Ouch!

What's the Beef?

The board recently voted 3-2 to keep the purse strings tight at the Fairhope Public Library. Why? Because the library, despite repeated warnings, is allegedly keeping sexually explicit books within easy reach of young eyes. Jones? He thinks this is an attack on free speech.

Jones' Stance

Jones argued on his livestream that the governor should champion public libraries and free speech. He believes these rights are "under siege" in Alabama, especially regarding libraries.

Changing the Guard?

Currently, APLS Board Chairman John Wahl and Governor Kay Ivey have been working together to remove questionable material from the kids' sections. But Jones says that all changes if he wins the election.

A Plan to "Fix" Things

"The first thing I can tell you I would do is I'd get rid of a few people on that library board," Jones stated. He wants "common sense" instead of a "crazy political agenda." He believes the current situation can be "remedied without removing" books and that libraries "should answer to their communities."

Uphill Battle for Doug

While Jones is fired up, he's still considered a longshot for the governor's mansion. Early polling suggests he's trailing Tuberville by a significant margin. The primary elections are set for May 19, 2026, with the general election on November 3, 2026.

Gaming Bill Rolls the Dice in the Alabama Senate!

Heads up, ChumCity! State Sen. Merika Coleman (D-Birmingham) just threw down the gauntlet with SB257, a proposal to shake up Alabama's Constitution and bring gaming to the state.

What's on the Table?

This bill aims to legalize a statewide lottery, plus in-person casino games, and both in-person and online sports betting. Right now, Alabama's Constitution flat-out bans lotteries. This amendment would change that.

How It Works

First, the Legislature needs to give it a thumbs-up with a supermajority vote. If that happens, it goes to the people! Alabama voters would then get to decide in a statewide election.

Who's Regulating?

Coleman's bill also creates a commission in the executive branch to keep an eye on all this gaming action. The Legislature would decide who's on the commission and what powers they have. Plus, there'd be a special law enforcement division to bust any illegal gaming activity.

Tribal Compacts

The Governor would get the power to work out a deal with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians for them to run Class III games and sports betting on their land.

Gaming's Rocky History in Alabama

This isn't the first time Alabama's wrestled with gaming. A similar effort in 2024 almost made it, missing Senate approval by just one vote! While Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) aren't super optimistic about success this year.

This Time It's Different...Maybe?

The 2024 attempt was a multi-bill package. This time, it's just a proposed constitutional amendment. Back then, Governor Kay Ivey supported the effort, saying it was time for voters to weigh in.

A Long Time Coming

It's been a while since Alabamians voted on gambling – 1999, to be exact, when they rejected a lottery proposed by then-Gov. Don Siegelman. Since then, lawmakers have been fighting over casinos and electronic gambling machines, stalling multiple lottery bills.

Election Integrity Showdown: Moore Defends Voter ID Bill!

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is firing back at Democrats, defending a Republican-led election integrity bill that's stirring up major controversy! Dems are calling the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act racist, but Moore isn't backing down.

What's the SAVE Act?

The SAVE Act, expected to hit the Senate floor this week, would require good ol' ID and proof of citizenship to register to vote. Simple, right? Not according to Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who's labeled it "Jim Crow 2.0" and claims it will "disenfranchise millions." Sounds dramatic!

Moore's Response: "They're Playing the Race Card!"

Moore, who's also eyeing a U.S. Senate seat, didn't hold back on WVNN's "The Yaffee Program." He accused Dems of resorting to the "race issue" because they "don't have a single policy that they can win on." Ouch!

"They can’t win on tax cuts, they can’t win on the economy, they can’t win on inflation, they can’t win on anything. So it’s always play the race card," Moore stated. Bold words!

Majority Rules?

Moore emphasized that most Americans actually support voter ID laws. "Honestly, if you look at the polls... 85% of white America agrees with the SAVE Act. 82% of black Americans... 76% of Hispanics want IDs." He calls it an "80/20 issue," leaving us wondering how Dems can possibly defend their opposition.

"20 Million Ghost Voters"?

Moore didn't stop there! He questions the security of past elections, pointing to a discrepancy of millions of votes. "We got 139 million registered voters in America, and Biden got 81 million, and Trump got 74 million, so that’s 155 million votes. Where did the 20 million come from?" He argues the SAVE Act is crucial for ensuring only citizens are voting and eliminating those "ghost voters." Spooky!

Alabama AG Slams Dem Demands on ICE

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, who's also eyeing a U.S. Senate seat, is calling on Republicans in Congress to stand firm against what he sees as unreasonable Democratic demands regarding immigration enforcement.

The Funding Face-Off

Remember that whole "government shutdown" drama? It almost happened over funding for the Department of Homeland Security, particularly Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). President Trump signed a bill for a two-week reprieve, but the issue is far from settled.

Marshall's Take

Marshall didn't mince words on WVNN's "The Yaffee Program," stating that Republicans need to "govern with common sense and rationality" while Democrats continue to obstruct.

No Compromise!

He doubled down, urging Republicans to resist bending to the Democrats' will simply because they dislike ICE doing its job. "We need to make sure that we are supporting with funding the mission that ICE has in this country," Marshall declared.

Democrat leaders are pushing for changes, including requiring ICE agents to ditch their masks and only use judicial warrants for arrests.

Why Marshall Says "No Way!"

Marshall explained that the existing system, using detainers, has worked for decades. Adding extra layers, like requiring court orders, would bog down the system and allow dangerous individuals to be released. He also believes the mask removal request is a thinly veiled attempt to "dox" and target ICE agents.
