After retiring in '09, Parker and his wife Jean (a Montgomery native!) planted roots in the River Region. This power couple has been married for over 30 years, and their son Antwon is crushing it with degrees from the University of Alabama and is now pursuing his medical degree.

Parker's mission? Community health and mentorship! He's a marathon machine, completing 59 of 'em, and motivates folks to live healthier lives. Plus, he organizes events like the "Fit-4-Life" 5K to support education. Even a stage IV cancer diagnosis hasn't slowed him down.

Center Charles Bediako, formerly of G-League fame, lost his fight for a preliminary injunction against the NCAA. This means his season is done. After briefly playing under a temporary restraining order, he's officially played his last game in an Alabama jersey – nearly three years after his initial leap to the pros.

No Need to Vacate Wins

The big question swirling around Tide fans was: would the team face penalties? Would those three wins from Bediako's short return be wiped away? Thankfully, NCAA President Charlie Baker offered some reassurance.

NCAA Says No Sanctions

"Despite the NCAA’s opposition to Bediako’s eligibility, the association is not in a position to sanction Alabama for breaking its rules by playing Bediako," Baker told Sports Illustrated. "For a lot of really good reasons, people who lose in court can’t turn around and punish the people who won."

Guess who's making waves in Montgomery? Senator Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) has been named the most effective Republican in the Alabama Senate, according to a new study! The Center for Effective Lawmaking, a research collaboration between Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, crunched the numbers, and Orr came out on top!

What's the Secret Sauce?

So, how do they measure "effectiveness"? The study uses State Legislative Effectiveness Scores (SLES), which looks at how many bills a lawmaker sponsors, how far those bills progress, and, most importantly, how many actually become laws.

Orr's Impressive Stats

During the 2019-2022 sessions, Orr racked up a score of 3.15 – the highest of any Senate Republican. He introduced a whopping 94 bills, got 63 through the Senate, and saw 37 signed into law! The study even showed he exceeded expectations for four straight legislative sessions.

Other Standouts

While Orr led the Senate GOP, State Rep. Jim Hill (R-Moody) shone bright for House Republicans with a score of 3.64. On the Democrat side, State Rep. Laura Hall (D-Huntsville) took the House crown with 1.81, while State Sen. Rodger Smitherman (D-Birmingham) led Senate Democrats with 1.73.

Let's look at the facts. Despite what you may have heard, Jackson Hospital's revenue has actually been on the rise. In a meeting back in September 2025, even Jackson's own interim management team admitted their annual revenue jumped by over $122 million between 2015 and 2023 – a whopping 60% increase! That’s an average annual bump of more than 7.5%. But even with record revenue in 2022, they still reported a net loss. So, money isn’t the whole story.
