Huntsville Rep Stands Firm: Backs Trump's Iran Action!

Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) is throwing some serious shade at Dems questioning President Trump's recent military moves against Iran. It's all happening after the U.S. launched what's being called "Epic Fury" over the weekend, hitting nuclear sites and military bases hard, and taking out some top leadership in Iran.

War Powers Debate Heats Up

Congress is gearing up for a showdown this week, with votes planned on war powers resolutions aimed at reining in Trump's actions in Iran. But Strong isn't sweating it. He thinks the resolutions are DOA, predicting a lack of Republican support will sink them.

Dems Don't Get It?

Strong went on WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show" and suggested that even some Democrats secretly don't want to hamstring Trump during this military conflict. He called out their understanding of the War Powers Act, saying many across the aisle are clueless about the actual threat America faces from Iran.

Strong: They Don't Have a Clue!

Strong didn't mince words, accusing Democrats of being completely out of touch when it comes to understanding war powers. "I don't think they got a clue," he exclaimed. He pointed out that Trump immediately briefed the Gang of Eight, satisfying one requirement, and then spelled out what War Powers Act actually means, if its gets voted down within 60 to 90 days, he still has the powers he currently has.

Iran's Chance is Over

Strong is firmly in Trump's corner, believing the military operation was the right call against a dangerous regime. "Iran had their chance," he declared. "We tried diplomacy, it failed. They're enriching uranium, and every American knows it's not for peaceful purposes. It's for nukes!" Strong said that the president has absolutely made a decision that is in Americas best interest.

Bediako Drama: Is the SEC Playing Favorites?

Remember Charles Bediako, the Crimson Tide center? Well, his attempt to rejoin Alabama basketball after testing the NBA waters stirred up a serious storm! It even involved SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey trying to block Bediako's eligibility in court.

Hypocrisy Alert?

Now, Bediako's attorney, Darren Heitner, is crying foul. He's pointing out Vanderbilt's Bryce Griggs, a player who skipped college altogether for a pro career overseas, is now playing for the Commodores.

Heitner's Hot Take

"Where’s Greg Sankey’s opposition? Or is that only when it’s an Alabama player," Heitner blasted on social media. Ouch!

A Key Difference

The catch? Griggs never played college ball, unlike Bediako. That distinction was key in Bediako's unsuccessful legal battle, even with many European pros already competing in the SEC.

The Transfer Tango

Heitner also grilled Sankey about wanting to revert to a one-time transfer rule, a move many fans would cheer. He referenced a court case that previously decided the rule couldn't be enforced.

Court Battles Ahead

The future of college sports is anyone's guess. But one thing's for sure: lawyers like Heitner will be right in the thick of it as these legal showdowns continue.

Jasper Representative Gets Big Endorsements!

State Rep. Greg Barnes (R-Jasper) just snagged some major backing for his upcoming Republican primary on May 19! House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) and House Majority Leader Paul Lee (R-Dothan) are officially on Team Barnes!

Quick Rise to Prominence

Barnes, a retired contractor, waltzed into the District 13 seat in a special election back in September 2025, grabbing a whopping 70% of the vote after Matt Woods (R-Jasper) made the leap to the State Senate. Now, he's facing his first real challenge!

Primary Showdown

The May 19th primary pits Barnes against Walker County educator and businessman Mike Elliott. It's Barnes' first contested election for a full term in this super-red district.

What They're Saying

Ledbetter and Lee released a joint statement praising Barnes' whirlwind start: "Greg Barnes has wasted no time making an impact in the Alabama House of Representatives! He recently spearheaded a bill making church disruptions a felony – a timely and necessary move. Greg is a true conservative who gets things done!"

Church Bill Buzz

Barnes' HB363, the church disruption bill, sailed through the House 75-27 and is now waiting for its moment in the Senate spotlight. The May 19th primary will decide if he gets to continue representing Walker County for a full four years!

Madison County Gets a New Commission Chair!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity folks! Governor Ivey just tapped Ronald “Rex” Vaughn II to lead the Madison County Commission! He's stepping into the big shoes left by the retiring Mac McCutcheon, and he's ready to roll, effective immediately!

Vaughn: Farmer, Advocate, Leader

Governor Ivey had some pretty awesome things to say about Vaughn. She highlighted his deep roots in Madison County as a longtime owner of Vaughn Farms and his passionate support for small businesses and agriculture. "He's got solid connections all over the Tennessee Valley," Ivey stated, "and I'm sure he'll do great things for the people as the new Chairman!"

What Does Vaughn Bring to the Table?

Besides being a local farmer, Vaughn's been a big player in the Alabama Farmers Federation. Plus, he’s not new to state-level stuff! He's currently chairing the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission, which is kind of a big deal.

Vaughn's Words of Thanks

Vaughn seems super grateful for the opportunity. "I want to thank Governor Ivey," he said. "I'm gonna give it my all and serve with the same humility I saw in Chairman Mac McCutcheon. The people of Madison County deserve nothing less!"

A Bit About Rex

He's a Sparkman High School grad and an Auburn University alum, with degrees in Ag Education!

Saying Goodbye to McCutcheon

Governor Ivey also took a moment to give props to the outgoing chairman, Mac McCutcheon. She praised his years of service, from his time as a Huntsville police officer to his 16 years in the Alabama Legislature (including six as Speaker of the House!) and his final three years leading the Commission. "Mac leaves behind a fantastic legacy," Ivey said, "and I wish him and his wife, Debbie, all the best!"

A Farewell and a Wish

McCutcheon let the Governor know last year that he'd be stepping down on March 1st, sparking all sorts of speculation about who would take his place! Seems the commission was hoping one of their own would get the nod.

Austal USA & Poarch Creek Indians Team Up!

Get ready for some serious shipbuilding action! Austal USA and the Poarch Creek Indians (PCI) just announced a major strategic partnership. It's all about boosting shipbuilding muscle on the Gulf Coast, just as the U.S. Navy is cranking up the pressure for more ships and subs.

Why This Matters

This partnership, sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding, is a direct response to the Navy's call to strengthen both the Maritime and Submarine Industrial Bases. Production demands are soaring, and this collaboration aims to meet those national shipbuilding goals head-on.

What's the Deal?

PCI will be lending its support to Austal's expanding Module Manufacturing Facility, slated to be online by 2026. Think workforce development and targeted production programs, all rolled out strategically to match Austal's ongoing projects.

Big Impact, Big Numbers

Gene Miller, Austal USA's Interim President, emphasizes the creation of new partnerships to grow the maritime and submarine industrial bases in Alabama and across the Gulf Coast. PCI brings serious economic firepower to the table: over $4.1 billion in annual economic impact, $1 billion in salaries, and a whopping $340 million contributed in Alabama state taxes!

Building a Stronger Future

Stephanie Bryan, PCI Tribal Chair & CEO, is pumped about supporting critical shipbuilding. "This partnership creates new opportunities, supports workforce development, and strengthens Alabama's role in advancing America's maritime readiness. We're investing in jobs, innovation, and a stronger future!" she declared. And don't worry, quality and compliance are top priorities. All activities will meet Austal USA's and the U.S. government's standards, including strict quality assurance and cybersecurity. This is a win-win for everyone!

U.S. Athletes & Divided Loyalties

Last month, hundreds of American athletes headed to Milan, all chasing that Olympic dream. But amidst the excitement, the choice of U.S.-born skier Eileen Gu to compete for China left a sour taste for many.

A Personal Connection to Freedom

Like many, I find it deeply troubling that Gu enjoys the freedoms of being an American citizen while representing a regime that denies those same freedoms to its own people. My own grandparents fled China to escape the CCP's tyranny, finding refuge and opportunity here in the United States. Their story instilled in me a profound love for America and a clear understanding of the dangers the CCP poses.

What's the Motivation?

Gu's decision is perplexing. She clearly enjoys the benefits of living in the U.S. So, what motivated her? Reportedly, millions were budgeted by the Beijing government to lure her and another U.S.-born athlete to compete for China.

Priceless Principles

Is a few million dollars enough to overlook the CCP's human rights abuses, censorship, and threats? It seems like Gu is prioritizing financial gain over standing up for freedom.

The American Difference

Actions speak louder than words. Gu should move to Beijing. But she will not. She will continue to reap the benefits of being an American while waving the flag of one of the world’s most immoral and repressive regimes. Every time Eileen Gu competes for China, her hypocrisy and lack of patriotism will be on full display.

In China, an athlete would never be allowed to compete under another nation’s flag. Here, our citizens are free. They are protected by our Constitution, which allows them to choose their own path, even when others may disagree. That is the difference.

Palmer Praises Trump's "Epic Fury" Against Iran

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) is giving a thumbs-up to President Trump's recent strikes against Iran, while simultaneously calling out Democrats for their lack of support.

"Why Wasn't This Done Sooner?" Asks Palmer

Palmer took to WVNN to express his thoughts on the strikes, which reportedly targeted nuclear sites and military bases, and resulted in the deaths of Iranian leaders. "The thing that’s interesting about this is that I don’t know why this wasn’t done sooner," he stated, referencing past attacks dating back to 1979. He questioned when these acts would finally be considered acts of war.

Concerns Over Congressional Leaks

The Congressman also expressed his disappointment with the lack of bipartisan support. He voiced concerns about classified briefings being leaked to the media, going so far as to suggest some members of Congress might even warn Iran. "That’s how concerned I am," he emphasized.

History Will Judge Trump Favorably?

Palmer concluded by asserting that history will vindicate Trump's actions. While claiming nobody wants war, he believes it's crucial to prevent Iran from acquiring dangerous weapons. "History has taught us differently, and I think President Trump’s done the right thing here," he said.

Grocers Association Chooses Their Candidate!

The Alabama Grocers Association (AGA) just tossed their support behind Republican Caroleene Dobson for Alabama Secretary of State in the upcoming 2026 race. That's right, folks, the grocery aisle has spoken!

Why Dobson?

"We're backing Caroleene Dobson all the way!" declared Ellie Taylor, President and CEO of AGA. "This Secretary of State gig is crucial for a healthy business environment here in Alabama. We're talking easy filings, crystal-clear rules – stuff that directly impacts our local grocery stores."

Taylor continued, "Dobson gets it. She'll make sure Alabama's grocers can run like well-oiled machines, expand their businesses, and keep serving up those community vibes."

Dobson's Promises

Dobson's promising to cut the red tape and speed up those pesky business filings. No more delays that frustrate employers and empty the wallets of Alabama families, she says!

"Grocery stores are the backbone of rural Alabama, creating jobs and supporting communities," Dobson stated. "They shouldn't be bogged down by unnecessary bureaucracy. As Secretary of State, I'll make filings faster, provide clear guidance, and respect the time of Alabama's job creators."

Legal Eagle Ready

Dobson, an attorney, believes her legal background gives her the edge when it comes to understanding regulations and administering state law. She plans to bring the Business Services Division into the 21st century, chopping regulations that stifle economic growth. Of course, she's also committed to safeguarding Alabama's elections from fraud and outside meddling.

The Competition

Dobson faces off against fellow Republicans Christian Horn and Glenda S. Jackson in the primary.

The Republican primary election is scheduled for May 19. Get out there and vote, ChumCity!

Sunshine State Savings: Florida's Insurance Rates Take a Plunge!

Great news, folks! Florida is showing us how it's done. Governor Ron DeSantis recently announced some awesome insurance rate relief for homeowners and drivers. That means more money in YOUR pocket and a boost for small businesses across the state!

The Problem

For years, insurance companies were fleeing Florida faster than you can say "alligator," and rates were skyrocketing. A big reason? Legal system abuse was running rampant.

The Solution

But Florida's leaders weren't about to sit back and watch. In 2023, they passed a game-changing reform package that tackled unfair attorney fees, "phantom damages," and modernized the rules.

The Results? Amazing!

Major car insurers are now REDUCING premiums: State Farm (-10.1%), Florida Farm Bureau (-8.7%), AAA (-15%), Progressive (-8%) and USAA (-7%). Plus, Progressive gave $1 billion in rebates last fall, and Uber's fares are down thanks to lower insurance costs. A study even showed Florida's insurance costs are 14.5% lower, adding billions to the economy and creating thousands of jobs!

Warning Signs in Alabama: Uh Oh!

While Florida's celebrating, Alabama's seeing some troubling trends. A new report reveals that litigation is driving up insurance costs.

The Numbers Don't Lie

Even though claim volumes are steady, liability claim severity jumped a whopping 59%, and the average payout per claim rose 45%! Big claims (over $1 million) have doubled!

The Impact

These costs hit Alabamians hard. Legal uncertainty scares away businesses, rising premiums make car insurance unaffordable, and small business growth suffers.

What's at Stake for Alabama?

Our leaders have worked hard to boost Alabama's economy, but all that progress could be undone if we don't address legal system abuse. Other states like Georgia, Louisiana, and Oklahoma are already taking action.

We Can't Afford to Fall Behind!

We compete with these states for jobs, projects, and businesses. Alabama can't afford to be at a disadvantage. We need to tackle these issues head-on, or we'll be left in the dust with higher costs and limited growth!

Redstone Arsenal Tightens Security!

Heads up, ChumCity! Redstone Arsenal has suspended its Trusted Travelers Program due to increased security concerns (threat level BRAVO, y'all!). Word is this is linked to recent U.S. and Israeli action in Iran. Expect delays—everyone, even DoD ID holders, needs to show ID at the gates. This could last at least 30 days, so give yourself extra time. Similar security boosts are popping up at Maxwell Air Force Base, Fort Rucker, and other installations.

Overtime Tax Break in the Works?

State Rep. James Lomax (R-Huntsville) is pushing a bill that could let Alabama workers deduct up to $1,000 in state income taxes on qualified overtime pay. The goal? To ease the burden on working families, supposedly mirroring the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act (remember that?) from 2025.

Hemp Shop Crackdown Coming?

The Huntsville City Council is gearing up for a public hearing on some fresh rules for those standalone hemp retail spots. Think package liquor stores: zoning restrictions and distance requirements from neighborhoods, schools, and churches. What do you think, ChumCity?

Clinton on Epstein: "I Saw Nothing"

The House Oversight Committee (run by the Republicans) just dropped some videos from Bill and Hillary Clinton's closed-door depositions. Bill C., apparently, said he "saw nothing" during his time around Epstein that hinted at trafficking. He also gave Trump a pass, saying the former president "never said anything to me to make me think he was involved with anything improper."

Palmer Defends Iran Strikes, Slams Leaks

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) is all-in on President Trump's Operation Epic Fury strikes on Iran. He blasted congressional leaks, suggesting some members would've warned the Iranians if everyone got briefed. Sec. of State Marco Rubio clarified that only the Gang of 8 and leadership were informed, because there's no legal requirement to tell all 535 members.

Alabama Republicans Back Iran Strikes

Alabama's Republican crew, including Governor-elect (and National Championship-winning Coach!) U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), and Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), Gary Palmer (R-Hoover), Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), and Dale Strong (R-Huntsville), are standing firm behind the U.S. strikes that took out Ayatollah Khamenei. They're calling it a decisive move against terrorism. Dems U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) and U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) are less thrilled, criticizing the lack of congressional approval.

Iran-Israel Conflict Heats Up!

Things are getting tense in the Middle East. After U.S.-Israeli strikes, Iran retaliated, threatening millions. Attacks in the Gulf of Oman injured crew on a tanker (tied to the regime, naturally). House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is predicting a U.S. failure and wants a War Powers Resolution to rein in President Trump, though a handful of Dems are on board with the Iran attacks.
