ChumCity News Round-Up!

Alright, Chumblers, buckle up for today's wild ride through the political jungle!

Trump's Polls & "Peace President" Claims: Fact or Fiction?

Hold the phone! Someone at aldotcom's claiming President Trump's "peace president" boasts are tanking his poll numbers. Newsflash: recent polls show the Trump Train chugging along with strong support from his base and approval ratings that might even outshine Dubya and Obama at similar points in their presidencies. Talk about fake news, am I right?

Wes Allen's Residency Under Scrutiny?

Things are getting spicy in Alabama! Morgan County GOP chair Julie Clausen's questioning Secretary of State Wes Allen's Montgomery residency, citing some Pike County homestead and voting biz. She's hinting at fraud, but Allen's firing back, saying his rented apartment meets the state's requirements. All this amidst a funding challenge against Lt. Gov. hopeful John Wahl. Stay tuned... this could get messy.

Alabama House Republicans Back Ledbetter

The Alabama House Republican Caucus is throwing its weight behind Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter ahead of a potentially sticky ALGOP meeting. Seems some folks want to boot him from the ballot. Governor Ivey's even chimed in, praising Ledbetter's policies. She wants to protect him from a (highly unlikely) removal process. Looks like the political establishment is circling the wagons.

Noem Out at DHS? Trump Shakes Up Cabinet!

Big news! President Trump apparently gave DHS Secretary Kristi Noem the boot! Word on the street is it was over leadership failures, spending woes, and some infidelity allegations (yikes!). He reassigned her to some "Envoy" gig and nominated Senator Markwayne Mullin as her replacement. Cabinet shakeups are always fun, right?

Online Sales Tax Distribution Update

Sen. Greg Albritton's got a plan to update how online sales tax revenue is divvied up. His idea? Recalculate the distribution every five years using Census data to reflect population shifts. This is an attempt to address lawsuits from cities complaining of lost revenue, all while keeping the hefty $851 million in taxes flowing. Smart move? You decide!

War Powers Resolution Fails: Trump Gets Iran Blank Check

The U.S. House just shot down a War Powers Resolution that would've kept tabs on Trump's actions against Iran. Alabama Republicans voted "no," while Alabama Democrats voted "yes." Translation? President Trump essentially gets a green light to do what he wants in the Iranian theater. Get ready for anything.

Operation Epic Fury: Iran Strikes & Oil Prices Soar

Sources are saying that "Operation Epic Fury" led to strikes that leveled Iranian missiles, ships, and sites in Tehran. This caused evacuations and, potentially, a massive surge in oil prices. Trump's apparently unbothered by potential gas price hikes, and Governor-elect Tommy Tuberville wants to deport Sharia law practitioners (yikes!).

And that's your daily dose of political craziness, Chumblers!

UAB Joins National Push for Better Nutrition Training for Docs!

Big news, ChumCity peeps! UAB is stepping up its game, joining a nationwide initiative to give future doctors a real education in nutrition. That's right – we're talking about strengthening how medical students learn about food and how it affects our health!

A Major Commitment

UAB is one of 53 med schools committing to this important change. The announcement was made at a meeting in D.C., where bigwigs from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Education got together to talk about boosting nutrition knowledge in medical training.

40 Hours of Food Power!

The deal is this: UAB, along with the other schools, will provide at least 40 hours of nutrition education (or something just as good) for students starting in the fall of 2026. Finally, some serious food facts being taught!

Why This Matters

Federal officials say this is all about prepping doctors to tackle diet-related health problems, which are a HUGE part of chronic disease in the USA. Think heart disease, diabetes - the stuff good nutrition can really help prevent!

The Feds Are Invested

HHS is even putting its money where its mouth is, dedicating $5 million to help schools amp up their nutrition programs! They'll use the cash to develop courses, training, and research on evidence-based nutrition science.

It's About Time!

Medical leaders are cheering this move, recognizing that nutrition education has been seriously lacking for far too long. It's a win for future doctors, and a HUGE win for all of us!

A Wake-Up Call: Are You a Threat to Evil?

"My prayer is that when I die, all of Hell will rejoice that I am out of the fight." – C.S. Lewis

We're living in a messy world, no doubt about it. Suffering, lies, betrayal - it's the cost of entry into a world stained by sin. But we have a choice: do we roll over, or do we fight back?

The Silent Majority?

Too many American Christians are choosing the first option. They're standing by as toxic ideologies flood their communities. Transgenderism pushed on kids, LGBTQ+ agendas shoved down our throats - it all happens because Christians are told standing up is "unloving." They let the Word of God be twisted, weaponized to shame them into silence.

Time to Stand Tall

That's not the path God calls us to. The other path? Standing up. Saying NO to the darkness. Becoming a threat to those who want to kill and destroy. Making evil think twice.

Now, before anyone jumps down my throat: I'm not talking about violence. I'm talking about peace through strength. As Jordan Peterson says, you need to be capable of being dangerous. "If you’re not a formidable force, then there’s no morality in your self-control.”

How to Be a Righteous Threat

First, become that strong, dangerous man. Then, use your words like weapons. Expose the flimsy foundation of evil with truth. Think of folks like Charlie Kirk, a Christian warrior whose words were so powerful, evil had to silence him violently. (And yeah, Hell probably threw a party that day).

Fear No Name

Too many are scared of being called names: "transphobe," "homophobe," whatever. They're told the Bible says "love everyone." But love doesn't mean accepting sin and letting it spread. Love means protecting your family and community from evil. Loving your enemy means bringing them to the light, showing them how lost they are without Christ.

If the forces of darkness aren't throwing insults your way, I gotta wonder: are you really in the fight? If evil doesn't see you as a roadblock, they see you as complicit.

Show me who sees you as an enemy, and I'll show you who you really are.

Be a Force to Be Reckoned With

So, become a threat to evil. Make them think twice before stepping foot in your territory. And when they do, walk in victory, in the name of Christ.

Farm Bill Gets the Green Light – Good News for Alabama Farmers!

Hold on to your hats, folks! The new Farm Bill is making its way through Congress, and U.S. Rep. Barry Moore is cheering it on! He says it’s gonna be a game-changer for farmers right here in Alabama and across the nation.

The House Agriculture Committee just gave the thumbs-up to the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026.

A Boost for Our Producers

Moore is stoked to support the bill, promising to keep fighting for a strong, common-sense version that benefits Alabama's hard-working producers and rural communities.

Modernizing for Accuracy

This bill includes Moore’s plan to give the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) a serious upgrade! This means more accurate and efficient data for everyone, from farmers to policymakers. Think of it as a super-powered crystal ball, helping folks make smarter decisions and stay competitive in today's crazy markets.

What's in it for Alabama?

Moore emphasized that Alabama farmers deserve a Farm Bill that gives them a stronger safety net, more market opportunities, and the certainty they need to plan ahead.

The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 aims to deliver just that. It includes improvements to key programs and protects vital commodities like cotton and peanuts. Plus, it invests in rural broadband and small-town infrastructure, strengthens disaster assistance for producers, expands trade opportunities, and modernizes the data system, as noted above.

Key Provisions: What You Need to Know

Here's a quick rundown of some other highlights:

  • Commodity & Risk Management: Updates to programs and more crop insurance options.
  • Rural Development & Infrastructure: More money for broadband and water systems, plus support for small towns.
  • Specialty Crops & Local Food: Funding for research and promotion of local crops, including cotton and peanuts.
  • Disaster Assistance & Preparedness: Expanded relief for losses from natural disasters and stronger prevention plans.
  • Trade & Market Expansion: Programs to help farmers export their products and compete globally.
  • Nutrition & Food Security: Maintaining the efficiency of the SNAP program and promoting healthy food access.

Alabama's Secretary of State Faces Residency Questions

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is firing back after a local GOP leader questioned whether he's actually living in Montgomery, as required by the state constitution. The accusation comes from Morgan County Republican Party Chair Julie Clausen.

The Allegations

Clausen is digging into Allen's residency status, citing Section 118 of the Alabama Constitution, which demands the Secretary of State "reside at the state capital during the time they continue in office.”

Clausen asks, "Does Secretary Allen actually maintain a residence in Montgomery as required by the Alabama Constitution?" She further questions the hypocrisy of Allen challenging John Wahl's ballot eligibility based on residency arguments, while seemingly facing similar concerns himself. Public records show Allen's primary home and voter registration are linked to Pike County.

Allen's Rebuttal

Allen isn't backing down. He insists he maintains an apartment in Montgomery and has done so throughout his term as Secretary of State.

"I rent an apartment in Montgomery and have during the entirety of my service as Secretary of State,” Allen stated, emphasizing he has a lease and pays rent monthly. "As a matter of fact, I am at the apartment right now."

It's All About Interpretation

Allen directly addresses the crux of the issue, arguing that the constitution requires a residence in Montgomery, not necessarily a primary residence.

"The law requires a residence, not a primary residence, and I clearly meet that requirement," Allen clarifies. "My primary home is in Pike County, Alabama which is less than an hour’s drive from the Capitol.”

Alabama House Tackles Tech Teacher Shortage!

The Alabama House just passed two big bills designed to beef up career and technical education (CTE) programs! Seems there's a real need for more instructors, and lawmakers are stepping up to the plate.

TRAIN Act Rolls Into Action

Representative James Lomax is behind the TRAIN Act, which aims to get industry pros into classrooms without them having to quit their day jobs! Think of it: real-world experience shaping the next generation. How cool is that?

Lomax says employers who "loan" their experts get a sweet tax credit. Basically, companies keep paying the employee, and the state gives the company a break. Everybody wins! It's like a talent supercharger for our schools.

Streamlining Teacher Certifications

Representative Marcus Paramore's bill is all about making it easier for qualified folks to become CTE teachers. Less red tape, more rockstar instructors! Paramore wants to smooth the path for out-of-state experts to bring their skills to Alabama classrooms.

Big Investment in the Future

These bills are part of a larger plan to pump serious resources into CTE. We're talking a potential $150 million investment! This ain't just talk; it's a commitment to equipping students with the skills they need to thrive.

What's Next?

Now, both bills head to the Senate for some more debate. Stay tuned to see if these changes become law!

More Transformers, More Power!

This isn't just any expansion. The new facility, slated to open mid-2027, will let Hyundai crank out even bigger transformer units, right here in the USA. That means a stronger, more resilient energy infrastructure for everyone.

Deep Roots in the Capital City

Since setting up shop in Montgomery back in 2011, Hyundai's total investment will now top $277 million. That's 600 jobs supported! "This expansion reflects our long-term confidence in Montgomery and the State of Alabama," says HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA President Jinho Kang.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Kang gave a shout-out to Montgomery's awesome teamwork, from local leaders to workforce training orgs. The Montgomery Regional Chamber played point, making sure everything ran smooth. Looks like Montgomery is the place to be for long-term success!

Alabama: Powerhouse for Advanced Manufacturing

State leaders are pumped about what this means for Alabama. Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair says it strengthens Alabama's spot as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and critical infrastructure. Boom!

Plugging in the Future

Did you know that roughly 70% of the nation’s large power transformers need replacing? Hyundai already supplies over 15% of U.S. large core-type transformers. This expansion? It’s gonna help modernize the power grid, making it stronger and more reliable.

Shout-Out to CSX!

Big thanks to CSX for their long-term partnership! They're working hard to strengthen Hyundai's supply chain and keep things moving.

A Community Effort

Hyundai also gives a shout-out to all the local orgs that helped make this happen, from the Alabama Department of Commerce to the Montgomery Regional Chamber. Talk about teamwork!

Montgomery Regional Chamber President Anna Buckalew says this expansion positions the city "at the center of strengthening America’s energy infrastructure." More jobs, a stronger grid – it’s a win-win!

Kiffin Sounds Off on NCAA Transfer Portal Madness!

Lane Kiffin, never one to mince words, recently took to X to drop some truth bombs on the NCAA! This time, he's taking aim at the wild west that college hoops has become.

Senior Nights... With Strangers?

As college basketball winds down and Senior Nights fill arenas, Kiffin's got a point: how many of those seniors actually started at that school? Turns out, not many!

Just ONE in the SEC?!

A recent stat revealed that across all power conferences, only a measly 22 players stuck with their original school for four whole years. And in the SEC? A shocking ONE player!

Kiffin's Sarcastic Praise

Kiffin couldn't resist a little sarcastic "praise" for the NCAA, calling the current system a joke.

"What a Great System We Have, NCAA"

That's what Kiffin posted. It’s a harsh reality check on how Power Five basketball teams are built these days: through the transfer portal, not high school recruiting. Ouch!
