Auburn Students Honor Charlie Kirk's Legacy

Three Auburn University students recently attended the memorial service for Charlie Kirk, with support from State Senator Jay Hovey (R-Auburn). Kirk, a passionate advocate for conservative principles, was tragically assassinated on September 10th.

When the Auburn Turning Point USA chapter reached out to Senator Hovey for assistance in traveling to Glendale, Arizona, for the service, he quickly stepped up to help.

"Charlie Kirk was a man of faith and a true American patriot," Hovey stated. "This is a turning point for our nation, and I am glad Auburn students were able to honor his legacy and be part of this revival."

Shutdown Showdown: Are Dems to Blame?

Looks like we might be staring down the barrel of a government shutdown on October 1, 2025, and U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) is pointing the finger squarely at the Democrats.

House GOP vs. Senate Dems

Aderholt claims House Republicans, with a single Dem onboard, already passed a bill to keep things funded until November 20th. But, he says, Senate Democrats blocked it.

Aderholt's Accusation

Aderholt, who heads the House Appropriations Committee, isn't holding back: a shutdown, he insists, will be all on the Dems. "The House passed a clean CR to keep the government running," Aderholt stated. "This is what Democrats said they wanted! But then they voted against it... Any attempt to blame Republicans just doesn’t fly."

Dems' Countermove

Senate Democrats aren't taking this lying down. They proposed their own CR to fund the government until October 31st. This version would permanently extend health care premium subsidies and restore Medicaid funding that Republicans had previously cut.

Moore Weighs In

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) piled on, accusing Democrats of just "standing in the way" of progress in Congress. He urges them to get on board with the House GOP's "clean" bill.

Governor Kay Ivey just dropped some awesome news for Alabama drivers! Over $3.7 million in state funding is headed to cities and counties for 13 sweet road projects. Get ready for smoother rides, folks!

Here's a quick rundown of where the roadwork's happening:

• Union Springs (Bullock Co.): Hardaway Ave, Levy Ave & Mimosa Apartment Rd are getting a fresh surface.
• Valley (Chambers Co.): CR-379 (Fairfax Bypass) from the Lee Co. line to Towel Ave is next up for resurfacing!
• Butler (Choctaw Co.): Rogers Ave, East Smith St, and West Smith St are all set for some TLC.
• Sanford (Covington Co.): Get ready for a newly paved Snuffy Rd!
• Glenwood (Crenshaw Co.): Sawmill St & Holmes St are getting resurfaced, plus Carroll St gets paved!
• Cullman (Cullman Co.): Graham St SW is getting a full-depth reclamation – that's serious road work!
• Eclectic (Elmore Co.): Seven city streets are about to get a major facelift.
• Belk (Fayette Co.): Eight local streets are on the resurfacing schedule.
• Hale County: CR-29 is getting resurfaced and widened. Room to roam!
• Bridgeport (Jackson Co.): Eleven city streets are next in line for a resurface.
• Sweet Water (Marengo Co.): Main St and 3rd St are getting some resurfacing love!
• Eva (Morgan Co.): Sanders Rd is getting resurfaced and repaired, so get ready for a smoother drive!
• Randolph County: CR-868 will soon be resurfaced, nice!

Rebuild Alabama: Making a Difference!

These grants are the final round of funding for the year under ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program, a direct result of the Rebuild Alabama Act.

Governor Ivey's Take:

"Supporting all Alabama citizens for generations to come has always my mission... Alabama continues to make strides for future generations of Alabamians,” says Governor Ivey. She also said, "Through the Rebuild Alabama Act, we are delivering on that promise to make meaningful investments in local roads... Alabama is keeping our commitment to safer, stronger and more connected communities.”

Cities and counties are pitching in too, adding over $2.4 million in local matching funds. All projects are expected to kick off within a year. Since Rebuild Alabama, ALDOT's program has awarded more than $70 million for local projects, and over 500 road and bridge projects have been made possible across all 67 counties! Awesome news for Alabama drivers!

Huntsville Ex-Cop in Hot Water!

Former Huntsville police officer Charles Nathan "Nick" Nickelson is facing some serious heat! The Alabama Attorney General, Steve Marshall, just announced that Nickelson, who's 60 and used to coordinate Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers, has been indicted on a felony ethics charge.

What's the Dirt?

Looks like Nickelson's accused of using his position for personal gain – a big no-no! Court documents allege he pocketed "all or a portion" of a whopping $25,520 that was meant to reward tipsters who helped crack cases.

Serious Consequences

If convicted, this Class B felony could land Nickelson in the slammer for a good long while – we're talking anywhere from 2 to 20 years! The Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Division is on the case.
