Big Win for Alabama's Nursing Moms!

Get ready to celebrate, ChumCity! Starting October 1st, Parker's Law officially goes into effect in Alabama, giving nursing mothers a much-deserved break from jury duty for up to two whole years!

How It Happened

This amazing victory is thanks to the hard work of State Rep. Susan DuBose (R-Hoover) and State Sen. April Weaver (R-Brierfield). They championed this cause after Alabama State Auditor Andrew Sorrell saw a Facebook post that sparked a fire under him.

Kandace's Story: The Spark That Ignited Change

Kandace Brown, a supermom from Jefferson County, showed up for jury duty with her 3-month-old baby, Parker. Despite letting the court know she was breastfeeding and couldn't be separated from her little one, she still had to be there. After hours of waiting, she was excused but told she could be called back! That's when Kandace took to Facebook, sharing her story.

A Law is Born!

Kandace's post went viral, grabbing the attention of lawmakers. DuBose took the lead in the House, and Weaver in the Senate, pushing for Parker's Law. Governor Kay Ivey signed it into law back in May! Kandace later shared her gratitude, thanking everyone who helped make this happen for breastfeeding moms all over Alabama.

Alabama's Builders Back Wes Allen for Lieutenant Governor!

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama just threw their weight behind Secretary of State Wes Allen in the race for Lieutenant Governor!

Allen's Alabama Roots

Allen has been Alabama's Secretary of State since 2023, and before that, he served as Pike County probate judge for a decade and represented District 89 in the Alabama House. He's been working hard to keep Alabama's elections secure.

Guntersville Stays the Course: Mayor Dollar Wins Fourth Term!

Get ready for more of the same, Guntersville! Mayor Leigh Dollar snagged a fourth term in office, emerging victorious from Tuesday's runoff against challenger Jeff McLaughlin. It was a nail-biter, folks, one of the closest mayoral showdowns this city has ever seen.

The Numbers Don't Lie

Dollar pulled in over 58% of the votes (unofficial tally), leaving McLaughlin with nearly 42%. That's a whopping 2,931 ballots cast! Remember that crazy tie two weeks ago? Both candidates got exactly 1,065 votes, setting the stage for this epic rematch.

Unity is the Name of the Game

Dollar, who first took office back in 2012, is pumped about the support and ready to keep bringing the city together. "Unity benefits all citizens," she said, emphasizing the importance of a united Guntersville.

The Battle Lines

McLaughlin, a lawyer and former state rep, campaigned hard on education, safety, and smart spending. Dollar, meanwhile, focused on sprucing up infrastructure and planning for the future.

Runoff Fever

That tie vote really put Guntersville in the spotlight, showcasing the city's engaged voters. Even though local races are supposed to be non-partisan, this one definitely got a little political heat.

Get ready, ChumCity! Jacksonville State University's legendary Marching Southerners are heading to Pasadena! They've been selected to perform in the 138th Rose Parade Presented by Honda on January 1, 2027. Talk about a New Year's bash!

A Homecoming Surprise

The big announcement dropped during halftime at Saturday's Homecoming game. Fans and band members went wild when a special video message from Rose Parade President Terry Madigan lit up the stadium videoboard.

A Huge Honor

Madigan praised the Southerners' "musicality, esprit de corps, and technical expertise," noting they were hand-picked from a ton of applicants. This parade is HUGE, viewed by over 78 million people worldwide!

Jax State Shines on a Global Stage

Jax State will be showcasing its massive marching band tradition. With over 480 members strong, the Southerners will bring a serious dose of Alabama spirit to California.

New Mayor Elect in Alexander City!

Get ready for a change, Alex City! Mike Densmore is set to be the new Mayor, winning Tuesday's runoff election by a close 58 votes against incumbent Woody Baird. Densmore snagged 1,610 votes to Baird’s 1,552 (unofficial results, of course!).

Fresh Faces on the City Council Too!

Densmore won't be alone shaking things up at City Hall. Kelly Waldrop is heading to the City Council for District 4 after a solid win over Frank Tapley with 60% of the vote. And Mike Lucas clinched the District 6 seat with 53% of the vote. Exciting times!

Who is Mike Densmore?

Densmore is a familiar face in Alexander City, a businessman, and a longtime pastor. This Benjamin Russell High School grad brings 30 years of corporate leadership from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. plus over four decades of local ministry experience to the table.

Densmore's Vision for Alex City

"As mayor, I will listen to the people of Alex City, and I will represent their interests," Densmore stated during his campaign. He sees his diverse background as providing a unique perspective for moving the city forward.

A Man with Roots in Alex City

A proud Alexander City native, Densmore holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Auburn University, where he was also a football and wrestling athlete. Before Goodyear, he taught and coached in Gadsden City Schools. He's also been heavily involved in the community, chairing boards like the Russell Medical Foundation Strategic Planning Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way.

Densmore is ready to honor the support he received. “This is a new day for our community," he shared on election night. "Let’s leave the rear-view mirror behind and look forward together with faith, hope, and love for Alexander City. I’m excited about what we will accomplish side by side!"

Washington often gets in the way of folks just trying to feed the country. Instead of clearing a path, they pile on paperwork and rules from folks who've never seen a farm. Farmers need freedom to produce food, raise livestock, and keep rural communities alive, WITHOUT Washington second-guessing every move.

I hear it everywhere: Congress needs to pass a STRONG farm bill, and ON TIME. Kicking the can with short-term extensions leaves producers guessing. Farming's hard enough! A good bill provides stability and support for rural communities.

Alabama's already a powerhouse! Poultry, peanuts, row crops, cattle, catfish, and timber – the strength of our land and people is undeniable. With the RIGHT support, we can keep growing.

Sylacauga Gets a New Mayor!

Well folks, the race was neck and neck, down to the wire! Sylacauga has spoken, and former schoolteacher, administrator, and coach Dr. Matt Hubbard is your new Mayor! He edged out local Pastor Bryan Taunton by a nail-biting 46 votes.

The Numbers

Hubbard snagged 1,137 votes, while Taunton tallied 1,091. That's roughly 51% to 49%! No word yet on outstanding provisional ballots, but it looks like the decision is made.

Council Shake-Up

In other election news, there's a new face in City Council District 4. Tim Vincent ousted incumbent Lee Perryman by a significant margin: 386 to 178. Looks like the voters wanted a change!

Change is Coming

Remember incumbent Mayor Jim Heigl? He gave it a shot in the August election but didn't make the runoff.

Mark your calendars, folks! The new Mayor will be sworn in on Monday, November 3.

A Man of Many Hats

Hubbard's coming into office after a whopping 32 years in Alabama public education. He's been everything from a science teacher and coach to assistant principal, principal at Sylacauga High, and even executive director of supporting programs. Talk about experience!
