Hold on to your hats, ChumCity folks! The Pike County Sheriff's Office just shut down a gambling operation running right out of a local gas station. Turns out, this wasn't just your average pit stop. We're talking scratch-off lottery tickets, those tempting "coin pusher" games, and even a full-blown electronic gambling setup. Ka-ching? More like ka-BUSTED! Authorities reportedly found a cool $25,000 on the premises. Talk about hitting the jackpot...for the Sheriff's Department! As commentator Dale Jackson of Yellowhammer News argues, if gambling is illegal in Alabama, then these operations need to be shut down, and the hammer needs to fall hard. Alabama and the nation have lost a true patriot and historian with the passing of Tom Walker, the driving force behind the American Village in Montevallo. Walker passed away Thursday, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to American history and civic education. Walker was more than just a founder; he was the heart and soul of the American Village, a living history museum dedicated to bringing the nation's founding to life. His passion extended to the national stage as a member of the United States Semisesquintennial Commission, helping to shape the upcoming 250th anniversary celebration in 2026. His influence will undoubtedly be felt for years to come. Before dedicating his life to historical preservation, Walker made waves in Alabama politics. In 1972, at the young age of 18, he ran for President of the Alabama Public Service Commission, making a name for himself as a dynamic speaker and a rising star. Although he didn't win that race, or subsequent campaigns for the PSC and State Treasurer, Walker's ambition and charisma were undeniable. Walker found his true calling in education. In 1995, he founded American Village, creating a space where history could be experienced firsthand. Since opening in 1999, the 188-acre campus has thrived under his leadership, inspiring countless students and visitors. The American Village Board of Trustees shared a statement expressing both grief and joy, recognizing Walker's immense contribution to the community, Alabama, and the nation. His dedication earned him numerous accolades, including recognition from the American Bar Association and "Birmingham Citizen of the Year." Walker, a University of Montevallo graduate, was known for his creative vision, particularly his ability to find talented individuals to bring historical figures to life at American Village. Now, he may be meeting the real George Washington, Abigail Adams, and other leaders he so admired. Funeral arrangements will be announced Friday.Alabama Mourns the Loss of Tom Walker, American Patriot
