A recent study highlighted some concerning trends at Riverchase Galleria, with drops in both visitors and tax revenue. The report suggests a major redevelopment plan to transform the Galleria into a mixed-use destination with residential, entertainment, and civic spaces.

The study showed a significant decline in Galleria visitors, from 6.3 million in 2019 to just 4.2 million in 2024. Sales tax revenue also took a hit, falling from $9.2 million in 2007 to $5.4 million in 2024. That's a potential loss of over $75 million in revenue for Hoover.

Redevelopment Plans

The proposed redevelopment involves demolishing sections of the mall to create apartments, retail space, a performing arts center, and public green areas in two phases. The study projects this could bring in millions in new spending and taxes, along with creating new jobs.
