Senator Britt Champions Space Exploration in ChumCity!

Alabama Senator Katie Britt grilled NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman about keeping the Space Launch System (SLS) rockin' and rolling. During a Senate subcommittee shindig, she also secured a promise to fully utilize that sweet $110 million for nuclear thermal propulsion!

Artemis II Gets a Shout-Out!

Senator Britt started by giving props to the Artemis II mission, especially highlighting the Marshall Space Flight Center's crucial role. She even got to chat with the crew before they splashed down! Talk about an awesome perk!

Keeping the Rocket Rhythm Going!

Britt dug into whether NASA could keep up the launch schedule without any annoying production hiccups. Isaacman agreed, emphasizing the importance of a steady pace to avoid delays, especially when facing off in a "great power competition."

No SLS Replacement... Yet?

Senator Britt wasn't thrilled about budget talk hinting at replacing SLS after Artemis V. She pointed out that SLS is currently the only rocket that can lug both crew and heavy cargo to the moon in one go. Isaacman clarified he wasn't looking to ditch SLS and sees it as one of two paths forward.

Nuclear Propulsion: "No Question!"

Britt then asked if NASA would actually use the $110 million for nuclear thermal propulsion, which she fought for in the fiscal year 2026 budget. Isaacman responded with an enthusiastic, "No question!" Looks like Huntsville is going to stay busy!

Chuck's HUGE Heart: Barkley Donates to Children's of Alabama!

Auburn legend Charles Barkley, a true Alabama icon, just made another slam-dunk move! He's donated BIG to Children’s of Alabama in support of the Regions Tradition.

A Generous Gesture

"We're incredibly grateful for Charles Barkley's $25,000 donation!" exclaimed Children’s Chief Development Officer Chandler Bibb. "His commitment to our kids is inspiring!"

A Regions Tradition Staple

Even though Sir Charles couldn't tee off at this year's celebrity pro-am, his support for the Regions Tradition remains solid.

A Long History of Giving

"Charles has been one of our tournament's best ambassadors since 1993," said Eventive Sports president Gene Hallman. "His generosity is amazing, especially for those who've benefited from Children's world-class services."

Connecting Golf and Giving

Regions Bank Birmingham Market president Christian White added, "The Regions Tradition connects great golf with strong philanthropy. Charles' donation, plus the tournament's proceeds, will make a real difference for Alabama's kids."

Alabama Football Scene

Word on the street (and from Nick Saban himself!) is that extending Kalen DeBoer's contract was a smart move for Alabama. Saban pointed out that DeBoer had options, and to keep him, Bama needed to step up.

Space Race Update

Senator Katie Britt is fighting for Alabama's aerospace industry! She grilled NASA's head honcho about the Space Launch System, scoring $110 million in funding. Jared Isaacman's also committed to keeping the SLS program going.

DOJ Under Fire

A report alleges the Biden administration may have gone too far in investigating traditional Christians. Apparently, even priests were being watched and possibly targeted.

Iran Tensions

The conflict with Iran is putting serious economic pressure on the country. Tehran might not be able to withstand the sanctions and naval blockade. Talks are stalled, the clock is ticking, and Senate Democrats are pushing war powers resolutions amidst the paused conflict.

Voting Rights Fight

After a Supreme Court decision impacting the Voting Rights Act, Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn and pals are pushing for a special session to redraw congressional maps, potentially wiping out a Democratic district in Memphis. Similar moves are happening in Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida, sparking accusations of partisan shenanigans from Dems.

Sewell's Bold Proposal

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell has called for eliminating all GOP districts in California and Illinois, citing election rigging concerns. She's suggested grabbing seats from those states, but not without controversy, as she sought support from an organization facing serious allegations.

Mapping Mayhem in Alabama

Attorney General Steve Marshall wants the Supreme Court to let Alabama redraw its congressional maps. Senator Tommy Tuberville wants maps that reflect Alabamians' values, but Governor Kay Ivey says the state's hands are tied.

Dale Jackson of Yellowhammer News weighs in on all of this.

Senator Tuberville Tackles Student Aid Fraud!

Senator Tommy Tuberville is cracking down on student aid scammers! This week, he helped introduce the "No Aid for Ghost Students Act," aimed at stopping those pesky fraudsters who use fake IDs to snag federal student aid. Think of it as a superhero move for student loans!

Fighting Phantoms for Real Students

This bill would force the Department of Education to set up a super-sleuth identity fraud detection system. Any suspicious FAFSA applications get flagged, and both the applicant AND the school get a heads-up. Schools would then need to verify the applicant's identity, either face-to-face or via a live video call, before handing over the cash. Plus, the Department of Education would have to keep Congress in the loop with annual reports on how well the system is working.

Tuberville's Take

"Our young students work hard to earn their place," Tuberville said. "Not a single penny of federal aid should go to these 'ghost students' stealing from honest Americans! I'm fighting to eliminate ALL fraud."

Financial Literacy Month on the Horizon!

But wait, there's more! Tuberville also co-sponsored a resolution to designate April 2026 as Financial Literacy Month. Because, let's face it, knowing how to handle your money is super important!

Money Smarts for the Win!

"I spent years in education, and financial literacy is key," Tuberville stated. "Empowering students to manage their money sets them up for success, both in school and in life!"

Alabama GOP Under Fire: Who's Behind the Mysterious "Alabama Values PAC"?

Alabama Republicans are feeling the heat! For the past month, voters in five legislative districts have been bombarded with attack ads targeting their incumbent state lawmakers. Think mailers, texts, and digital smackdowns aimed at State Sens. Greg Albritton and Andrew Jones, plus State Reps. Frances Holk-Jones, Matt Simpson, and Phillip Pettus.

The Fingerprints Lead to... Wisconsin?

Here's the kicker: All the disclaimers point back to "Alabama Values PAC," a group registered just recently, operating out of a rented mailbox. The person in charge? A dude named Thomas Datwyler, all the way from Hudson, Wisconsin.

Out-of-State Intrigue

Datwyler doesn't live or vote in Alabama, yet he's the sole name attached to a PAC actively trying to unseat five Alabama Republicans. His firm boasts about managing hundreds of political committees, but a deeper dive reveals a checkered past.

A Trail of Controversy

Datwyler's record includes formal actions in several states: civil penalties, criminal investigations, and even a DOJ complaint! While some cases fizzled out, others resulted in fines. Let's break down the highlights (or lowlights):

  • Indiana: His role as treasurer led to a hefty FEC fine for a Senate campaign.
  • Mississippi: He faced a criminal investigation for allegedly funneling out-of-state cash around contribution limits.
  • Tennessee: A Datwyler-linked PAC triggered a referral to the state attorney general.
  • Nevada: Accusations of wire fraud landed him in a DOJ complaint.
  • New York: Remember George Santos? Datwyler was briefly (and controversially) linked as treasurer.

Deja Vu for Alabama

This isn't Datwyler's first rodeo in Alabama. He was previously connected to a super PAC that stirred up the GOP primary in the 1st District. He also briefly served as treasurer for A.J. McCarron's short-lived lieutenant governor bid.

The Big Reveal Delayed

Here's the shady part. Under Alabama law, PACs like "Alabama Values" must disclose their donors monthly, with increased frequency closer to the election. The final pre-election filing is due the day before the primary. Meaning the identity of who's funding these attacks won't be public until it's basically too late. What's the deal?

Red Alert: Redistricting Showdown!

President Trump needs backup in this redistricting war, folks! The radical left is pulling out all the stops, gerrymandering like never before to erase Republican districts. We're talking about Dems like Terri Sewell openly wishing for a zero-Republican Congress. See what's happening in Virginia? A state that's nearly split is being twisted into a Democrat fortress.

Time to Fight Back, Alabama!

Thankfully, deep red states like Florida and Texas are answering the call to block the left's scheme. They know we have to fight to avoid a generational defeat. Alabama, it's our turn! We need leadership, urgency, and the know-how to draw a fair, race-neutral map that sends SEVEN conservative leaders to the House.

A Game-Changer: Louisiana v. Callais

The Supreme Court's ruling in Louisiana v. Callais changes everything! Conservative warriors in South Carolina and Louisiana did what our own Attorney General's office didn't: they made the right arguments. Justice Alito even pointed out Alabama's past failures, noting the state didn't defend its map on partisan grounds, missing a chance for a race-neutral ruling. If the Attorney General had done things right before, we wouldn't have that second Democrat district now!

Emergency Action Needed

The Supreme Court could lift the injunction blocking redistricting at any moment. We MUST be ready. Under Callais, our current map is undeniably, unconstitutionally racist. The only reason we have two Democrat districts is because a court forced it, grouping voters by race. As soon as that injunction is gone, Alabama needs to redraw those maps NOW for this election. We need a special session to fix this immediately and update the election timeline.

No More Excuses!

Liberals and RINOs will whine about timing. But where were they when elections got postponed during COVID? The Attorney General rescheduled those elections fast in 2020, and we can do this now.

Trump Needs Us NOW!

Our gerrymandered map can't stand for another cycle. Those two Democrat seats could be the difference between conservative victories and endless lawfare against President Trump.

A United Front

Coach Tuberville, our next governor, is also demanding a fair map before 2026. I stand with him now, and I will as Attorney General.

End DEI Districting!

The era of DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) districting is OVER. It's time for Alabama to fight for our people, our principles, and our way of life!

(Jay Mitchell is a nationally recognized litigator and former Alabama Supreme Court Justice. He is currently running to be the next Alabama Attorney General.)

Alabama's AI & Kids Commission Kicks Off!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCityzens! Alabama is getting serious about protecting our kids in the digital age! The newly formed Alabama Study Commission on Artificial Intelligence and Children’s Internet Safety just held its inaugural meeting.

Leading the Charge

State Rep. Robbins (R-Sylacauga) is steering the ship as chairman, with State Rep. Matt Woods (R-Jasper) as his trusty co-pilot. This dynamic duo is ready to tackle the complex world of AI and its impact on our youngsters.

Why This Matters

This commission, born from HJR51, is on a mission to study how AI, social media, and internet access are affecting Alabama's children. Their goal? To craft smart recommendations for future laws that keep our kids safe online.

Who's Involved?

It's a team effort! The commission boasts legislators from both houses, a representative from the Attorney General’s office, and appointees from key organizations like the Department of Mental Health, Voices for Alabama’s Children, the Alabama Cable and Broadband Association, and TechNet.

Taking Action

Rep. Woods is no stranger to this fight. He championed the Alabama Child Protection Act in 2024, which outlawed AI-generated child sexual abuse material. Talk about a superhero move!

A Balanced Approach

Chairman Robbins emphasizes a balanced approach. He acknowledges the incredible opportunities new tech offers while recognizing the serious risks to young people. He's committed to creating solutions that protect privacy, enhance accountability, and ensure children's safety.

What's Next?

The commission has a deadline of November 1, 2026, to deliver a report packed with findings and legislative recommendations. Stay tuned, ChumCity, because Alabama is gearing up to be a leader in protecting its kids in the digital frontier!

Alabama's Redistricting Rollercoaster: Special Session Incoming!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens! Governor Kay Ivey is calling the Alabama Legislature back into session this Sunday to tackle the ever-twisting saga of redistricting. This comes on the heels of a Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais that might just shake things up.

The Alabama House and Senate will gavel in at 4 PM on May 4th, ready to rumble.

Contingency Plan in the Works

While Alabama's still under a federal court order until 2030, Ivey and legislative leaders are aiming to craft a "contingency map." Think of it as a "break glass in case of emergency" plan, ready to roll if the Supreme Court sends the state's case back down with instructions to apply the Callais ruling.

Governor Ivey's Take

"We've been battling federal courts and activist groups who think they know Alabama better than Alabama," Ivey declared. She's optimistic about a favorable outcome, but acknowledges the fight isn't over.

Legislative Leaders Chime In

Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter and Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger released a joint statement emphasizing their commitment. "We can and will set a contingency plan in place...should the U.S. Supreme Court remand Alabama’s current case," they said. They framed the effort as giving Alabama "a fighting chance" for fair representation.

A Whirlwind 72 Hours

This special session comes after a whirlwind few days. Initially, Ivey pumped the breaks on a special session after the Supreme Court's Callais decision. But Attorney General Steve Marshall quickly filed emergency motions arguing the ruling invalidates existing injunctions blocking Alabama's 2023 maps.

Marshall stated, "Alabama deserves the right to use its own maps, just like every other state."

The Republican Roar

The special session also follows a chorus of calls for action from Alabama Republicans. Senator Tommy Tuberville even suggested sending an entire Republican delegation to Washington!

What's at Stake?

Currently, Alabama sends five Republicans and two Democrats to the U.S. House, thanks to a court-imposed map that critics say was racially motivated. Ballots for the May 19th primaries are already set, so this session is all about potentially influencing the general election.

Ivey anticipates a quick turnaround. “I am ensuring Alabama is prepared should the courts act quickly enough to allow Alabama’s previously drawn congressional and state senate maps to be used during this election cycle." She expects the Legislature to wrap things up within five days. Buckle up, ChumCity!
