Tracie West Aims for Re-Election to Alabama State Board of Education

Tracie West, the Republican incumbent, has officially launched her campaign to retain her seat on the Alabama State Board of Education. Representing District 2 since 2020, West emphasizes the significant strides made by Alabama's K-12 system under her watch.

Academic Progress and High Standards Highlighted

West proudly states, "When I first ran, I believed Alabama could have a top-notch education system." She now points to Alabama's emergence as a leader in post-pandemic academic recovery, crediting this success to maintaining high standards during challenging times.

Focusing on Core Instruction and Local Leadership

According to West, the improvements are a result of focusing on fundamental academic instruction and empowering local leadership. "We focused on what works: strong reading and math instruction, accountability, and empowered local leadership to meet student needs," she explained.

Improved High School Outcomes

West also highlighted positive trends in high school performance. "Our high school outcomes have improved as well," she noted, pointing to Alabama's graduation rate reaching an all-time high of 91 percent. College and career readiness indicators are also on the rise, with more students earning credentials and certifications.

Conservative Principles Driving Success

West believes these positive results align with conservative education priorities. "These results show what happens when conservative principles guide education policy," she asserted, emphasizing high standards, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and respect for parents and local communities. "There is more work to do, but Alabama is moving in the right direction."

Background and District Information

West, a Lee County native and Auburn University graduate, previously served on the Auburn City Schools Board of Education. District 2 encompasses parts or all of Barbour, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lee, Pike, Randolph, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties.

Drones: Are They Watching You in ChumCity?

Ever notice drones buzzing around at local events or even near your home? These newfangled gadgets are everywhere, used for everything from mapping to delivering packages. But what if these handy tools are being used to spy on us?

The China Drone Connection

Right now, a Chinese company, DJI, dominates the drone market, controlling a huge chunk of sales in the US. Why? They're cheap! The Chinese government heavily subsidizes their drone production, and let's be real, it's not just out of goodwill.

A Trojan Horse in the Sky?

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) wants to undermine American power. Flooding our market with drones serves a double purpose. First, we're basically funding their drone tech and future development, which has military uses too. Second, these drones could be a perfect way for the CCP to collect information and spy on Americans. We all know the CCP loves sneaking into our systems!

Action in Washington (and Soon, Alabama?)

The Feds are waking up! President Trump signed an executive order to boost American drone production and fight back against Chinese dominance. The FCC is even blocking imports of new DJI drone models.

My Plan to Keep ChumCity Safe

As your next State Auditor, I'll ban all Chinese-made drones and parts from Alabama's state property inventory on day one. Why? Because as the son of Taiwanese immigrants who fled Communist China, I know the dangers firsthand. We need to protect Alabamians from the CCP, and I'm committed to doing just that.

Meet Derek Chen

Derek Chen, a Vestavia Hills businessman, is running for Alabama State Auditor. He's a long-time Republican activist, a Trump supporter, and ready to take on the CCP.

Alabama to Get Statewide Flood Alerts!

Get ready, folks! Governor Kay Ivey just announced a plan to launch a brand-new statewide flood notification system right here in Alabama. It's all about keeping us safe from those unpredictable weather events.

A Tragedy Spurs Action

The Governor mentioned the tragic Texas flooding last year that claimed the lives of Alabamians, including young Sarah Marsh. This heartbreaking event underscored the need for better flood warnings.

Summer Launch and Long-Term Funding

Ivey aims to have the system up and running this summer! She’s also urging the Legislature to provide the necessary funds to keep it going strong.

How We Get Alerts Now

Currently, we rely on the National Weather Service and local emergency agencies for flood warnings, but this new system will add another layer of protection.

Flooding: A Constant Threat

Alabama's no stranger to floods. With tons of rainfall and a landscape full of rivers and streams, we're vulnerable to both river and flash floods. It's a serious concern!

Be Prepared, Stay Safe

Emergency officials remind us that heavy rain can cause flooding anywhere, even in places that haven't flooded before. It's crucial to be aware and ready to react quickly.

More Alerts on the Way

Beyond weather, Alabama's boosting statewide alerts in other safety areas too.

Justice Served in Brutal Montgomery Robbery Case

Remember that terrifying incident back in March 2025 at Jim Massey’s Cleaners? The owner was brutally attacked and robbed. Well, some justice has finally been served!

Two More Sentenced

Two more men have been sentenced for their roles in the horrific robbery, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson and FBI Mobile Field Office Special Agent in Charge Sara Jones.

The Crime

The thugs not only assaulted Jim Massey III, but they also made off with around $8,000!

The Sentences

On Tuesday, a federal judge handed down a 175-month prison sentence to Spirit Hooks, 51, of Birmingham. Spencer Thomas, 68, of Montgomery, received a 144-month sentence.

The Ringleader

The mastermind, 58-year-old Zedekiah Sykes, was previously sentenced to 195 months on October 23, 2025. He was nabbed in Vegas – along with Thomas!

How it Went Down

Hooks, Thomas, and Sykes (plus another alleged accomplice, Clinton Thompson) reportedly smashed their way into the East South Street business and forced the owner into an office to get at the safe. Thompson is still awaiting his day in court.

No Parole

Keep in mind, the feds don't offer parole, so these guys are doing serious time.

Official Words

Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson stated, "This was a calculated and violent robbery...These sentences reflect the seriousness of the offense..."

Special Agent in Charge Jones added, “These lengthy sentences reflect the gravity of the crimes committed...We are stronger when we work together to combat violent crime.”

Teamwork Pays Off

The FBI, Montgomery PD, ALEA, and the MACS Unit all worked together on the case. Hats off to them! Assistant United States Attorney Joel Feil is handling the prosecution.

TJ Finley Finds Yet Another Home!

Hold on to your hats, college football fans! Quarterback TJ Finley, known for his time at Auburn and LSU, is making headlines again. Get this – he's committed to Incarnate Word! That's right, the Cardinals, former stomping grounds of NFL superstar Cam Ward, are adding Finley to their roster.

A Whirlwind Career

Finley's journey is one for the books. After stops at LSU and Auburn, he's been all over the map – Texas State, Tulane, Western Kentucky, and even Georgia State. Remember his time at Tulane? A pre-season arrest led to his departure, landing him at Georgia State last season.

Benched But Not Broken?

His stint with the Panthers wasn't exactly stellar. He saw action in seven games, but ultimately got benched. His stats? 1,244 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions, with the team going 1-6 in games he played. Ouch! The year before, a season-ending injury cut his Western Kentucky career short after just three games.

The Texas State Highlight

Let's not forget his shining moment: 2023 with the Texas State Bobcats. He threw for a whopping 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns, even leading them to a bowl victory!

Portal Prowler

Instead of sticking around, Finley hit the transfer portal again. Over the years, he's become a symbol of some of the more debated aspects of college football, navigating NIL deals while seemingly stretching his college career to its limit.

One Last Hurrah?

Love him or hate him, you know you'll be checking Finley's stats this year. It's his final season of eligibility, so get ready for the ride!

The Fight Continues!

Alabama physicians emphasize that ongoing education and access to treatment are key to further reducing opioid-related harm. Let's keep up the great work, Alabama!

Alabama AG Slams Minnesota Leaders Over ICE Protests

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has entered the fray, blasting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for their recent comments amid heated protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Tensions High After Fatal Shooting

Minneapolis is currently simmering with tension following the death of Renee Nicole Good, shot by an ICE agent in what authorities claim was a vehicle assault attempt. A separate incident involved an ICE officer shooting a man in the leg after allegedly being attacked with a shovel during an arrest, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

"Inflaming the Tensions"

Marshall, during an appearance on WVNN’s "The Yaffee Program," didn't mince words. He pointed to reports of protesters breaking into an ICE vehicle and allegedly seizing weapons. "The rhetoric is over the top," Marshall stated. "We see a mayor and a governor who are inflaming the tensions in that community."

Calls for Cooperation

Walz and Frey have been vocal supporters of protesting ICE, even accusing the agency of murder in the Good case. Marshall countered, "Even in the event yesterday, where the ICE agent was attacked, they had an individual here unlawfully for which they had the lawful right to be able to pursue." He emphasized that attacking an ICE agent "simply doing their job" is "completely unacceptable" and condemned the lack of condemnation from Minnesota officials as "extremely disturbing." Marshall, who is also eyeing a Senate seat, urged Minnesota leaders to work with federal agents to de-escalate the situation. He argued that local officials are exacerbating the chaos, stressing that violence against law enforcement, especially when they are acting lawfully, is never justified.

Rep. Moore Stands with Trump on Sanctuary City Funding

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is throwing his weight behind President Trump's plan to cut federal funding to sanctuary cities and states. Trump declared, "Starting February 1st, no more payments to sanctuary cities or states shielding criminals at the expense of American citizens."

"Perfect" Solution?

Moore, a Senate candidate, agrees. "I think it's perfect! Sanctuary cities reject federal law enforcement but love federal dollars. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you're pushing back against federal law, then extending your hand for federal payouts? President Trump's right to use his leverage to rein in this fraud and anti-law sentiment."

Moore Slams Dems' ICE Complaints

Moore also blasted Democrats for their recent complaints about ICE operations, asking, "Where were they when Lake and Riley were killed? It's all political! They called the ICE agent a murderer before even seeing the video!"

He referenced the shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent after she allegedly used her vehicle as a weapon, reportedly stalking and impeding agents all day.

"Political Agenda"

Moore argues the criticism reflects a "political agenda," stating, "Members of Congress called them murderers the day after it happened, without even seeing the video! It's demonizing law enforcement. They've been doing it for a long time, and every time an officer has to react is to defend himself, it becomes political." He adds, "If an illegal alien shot a US citizen, it wouldn't be in the media."
