Alabama Senate Race Gets Spicy!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens! The race for Alabama's Senate seat just took a wild turn! Morgan Murphy, former Trump official and Tuberville staffer, is making waves – and raking in the cash!

A Fundraising Frenzy

Sources close to the Murphy campaign report a whopping $1,057,949 raised since he officially jumped into the race on October 1, 2025. That’s more than any other candidate’s first-quarter haul. Looks like someone's got the Midas touch!

Murphy's Message

"Serving our country has been the honor of my life," Murphy stated. "I’m proud to volunteer again, this time to continue Senator Tuberville’s legacy as the strongest MAGA voice in the U. S. Senate.” Big words!

Grassroots Power

With over 10,000 contributions from more than 6,700 donors across all 50 states and an average donation under $70, Murphy's boasting some serious nationwide grassroots support. Is this the power of the people in action?

High Praise

K.T. McFarland, former deputy national security advisor to President Trump, says, "I backed Morgan early because I knew he’d be a powerhouse in Washington. It’s clear he has strong grassroots support behind his campaign.”

Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller chimed in, "Since launching his campaign, Morgan has made 34 national media appearances. He’s a clear, strong voice for President Trump and the State of Alabama. I’m not surprised, given he’s been that voice for the Department of War and U.S. Navy for 26 years.”

A Military Man

Murphy, a U.S. Navy Reserve captain with 26 years of service, has experience in both Trump administrations and served as Senator Tuberville’s national security advisor.

This first-time run for public office is off to a cracking start. What a rollercoaster! Stay tuned to ChumCity for more updates on this developing story!

Ivey Touts Alabama's Economic Wins as Legislative Session Begins

Governor Kay Ivey kicked off the Alabama Legislature's 2026 session with some seriously good news for the state's economy and its citizens! Speaking at the Business Council of Alabama’s Tuesday Morning Briefing, Ivey gave props to the BCA, lawmakers, and economic development folks for teaming up with her administration on a long-term plan for success.

Playing the Long Game

"While some might just look at the short-term gains, my administration has always been focused on the big picture," Ivey stated. She also previewed some major highlights expected in her upcoming State of the State address. The message? Alabama's got serious momentum, but there's still a ton to do in the next 30 days to keep the good times rolling.

Record-Breaking Investment

"Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair just dropped a bombshell: 2025 was the BEST. YEAR. EVER. for capital investment in Alabama history!" Ivey exclaimed. "We're talking a massive $14.6 billion invested across 234 projects, creating over 9,000 new jobs!"

Ivey emphasized that this wasn't just luck. "Let's be clear: these record years happened under THIS administration. Alabama's on fire! These gains aren't flukes." She highlighted McNair's leadership and pointed to Alabama's ongoing industrial transformation, from Mercedes-Benz to the latest big wins.

Eli Lilly's Massive Investment

"Just last month, we landed a HUGE economic development victory: Eli Lilly's $6 BILLION (yes, with a 'B'!) investment in an advanced manufacturing operation in Huntsville," Ivey said. "This was a national competition, and we CRUSHED it!" The project is expected to create roughly 450 jobs and start construction in 2026.

Focusing on Workforce Development

Ivey stressed the importance of workforce development alongside economic growth. "Alabama's unemployment rate is at a low 2.7%, with more people working than ever before. But too many Alabamians are still on the sidelines." She noted that the new Alabama Department of Workforce, led by Secretary Greg Reed, is working hard to increase workforce participation.

Keep the Momentum Going!

Ivey wrapped up by urging business leaders and lawmakers to maintain the current pace and to view the upcoming session in the new State House as a chance to build upon the progress made. "I'm pumped about Alabama's future," she concluded. "Let's all work together to keep this momentum going strong. Alabamians deserve our best, so let's get to work!"

Ainsworth Adds Veteran Newman to Team!

Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth just snagged a seasoned pro! William Newman, a policy whiz and governmental affairs guru, is joining the team as deputy chief of staff. The announcement came Tuesday, just as lawmakers were heading back to Montgomery for the 2026 legislative session.

Ainsworth's Confidence is High

"William Newman brings the experience and know-how we need to serve Alabama right," Ainsworth declared. "Plus, he's got the drive and fresh thinking to help us hit our goals this year!"

Newman's Impressive Background

Before landing in Ainsworth's office, Newman spent five years at the Business Council of Alabama, directing their governmental affairs and policy initiatives. He's been working closely with the Alabama Legislature, helping pass pro-business legislation. Translation? He's got connections and knows how things work under the dome.

Newman's Ready to Roll

"Lt. Gov. Ainsworth gets things done," Newman said. "I'm excited to help him keep that reputation alive!" He's particularly pumped about the Lt. Governor's work in workforce development, expanding Alabama's military presence, and boosting the aerospace industry. Sounds like a packed agenda!

More About Newman

Newman's a University of Alabama grad with a degree in Finance. Before his BCA gig, he honed his skills in small business operations and logistics, and even interned with Congressman Bradley Byrne.

Staff Shake-Up

This follows another big move for Ainsworth, as he recently appointed Alabama State House veteran Connie Rowe as his chief of staff. That followed Catherine Gayle Fuller's move to the private sector.

Tuberville: National Guard Coming to Montgomery?

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is fired up about crime in Montgomery, hinting he might send in the National Guard if he becomes Alabama's next governor. Looks like things are heating up!

Mayor Reed's PAC Fires Back

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed's PAC recently blasted out a text, using Tuberville's previous comments against him. The text accuses Tuberville of sticking with the "DC political machine" and calls out his "threatened" National Guard deployment. Talk about a political showdown!

"It's a War Zone!" Tuberville Doubles Down

On WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show," Tuberville didn't back down. When asked about sending in the National Guard, he said "100%," citing recent shootings in the city. "It's a war zone," he declared, blaming Democrats for not cracking down on criminals. Ouch!

More Cities Need Help, Says Senator

Tuberville believes Montgomery isn't the only city needing the National Guard. He says law and order need to be restored nationwide. He also claims "these people up here" in D.C. are soft on crime because they "want power," even if it means sacrificing lives. Strong words!

Crime Still a Problem Despite Efforts

While the Montgomery Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit has had some success, Montgomery has still faced major crime, including a recent mass shooting downtown. Will Tuberville's National Guard plan be the answer? Only time will tell!

Trump's "Golden Fleet" Could Boost Alabama Shipbuilding!

President Trump's plan to beef up the U.S. military, especially the Navy, could mean big things for Alabama! The Gulf Coast, including our very own state, is in line to play a crucial role in building these shiny new ships.

A New Era for Naval Power?

The Trump administration is pushing for a "Golden Fleet" to safeguard U.S. interests in these wild times. And guess what? Officials say parts of this fleet could be built right here in Mobile, and nearby Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Navy Secretary Visits Mobile

Secretary of the Navy John Phelan recently dropped by Mobile to check out shipbuilding sites and chat with local folks. He even did an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier!

Fox News Broadcast from USS Alabama!

Baier hosted "Special Report" from the historic USS Battleship Alabama! He talked to Secretary Phelan and wandered around Battleship Memorial Park, filming a segment.

Alabama's Role in National Defense

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) is stoked about the possibility of Alabama contributing to this "Golden Fleet." He believes Alabama has the workforce and expertise to build and defend the most powerful fighting forces the world has ever seen.

Debates over Readiness and Modernization

All this comes amid global tension and chatter in Washington about shipbuilding capacity and modernization.

Pascagoula Connection

Bret Baier also visited Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, a major naval shipbuilder where many Alabamans work.

New Treatment Center Coming to Shelby County!

Big news, ChumCity! Longleaf Recovery & Wellness just cleared a major hurdle in Alabama's healthcare system, snagging a Certificate of Need (CON) to build Longleaf Lodge, a 60-bed residential treatment center for substance use disorders in Shelby County.

A Focus on Recovery

Longleaf Lodge is set to open its doors in early 2027, boasting 10 detox beds and 50 residential treatment beds. This project marks the first CON-approved facility of its kind in Shelby County, aiming to meet the area's need for intensive inpatient services.

A Message from the CEO

"This is a major step forward for treatment in Alabama," said Longleaf CEO Colin Harris in a video recorded at the future site. He emphasized the importance of creating a calm and supportive environment for patients. "Longleaf Lodge will be set within a quiet, wooded landscape... that allows individuals to fully focus on recovery," Harris added.

What to Expect at Longleaf Lodge

Located on a sprawling 150-acre rural property, the lodge will feature residential cabins, medical and clinical spaces, and areas for dining, fitness, and group activities. The focus? Creating a safe, private, and therapeutic atmosphere. Treatment will include medically supervised detox, individual and group therapy, family involvement, and structured routines, all designed to help adults struggling with substance use disorders and mental health issues.

Overcoming Obstacles

Securing the CON wasn't easy. Longleaf faced opposition during the approval process, highlighting the challenges healthcare providers can face when expanding services. But now, with the green light, development is moving forward! Longleaf's expansion builds on their existing Alabama-based treatment network, including the Birmingham Recovery Center in Hoover and services across the state.

Political Turmoil in Minnesota

U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) is calling for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to resign, suggesting he could even face arrest. Emmer claims Walz's "incompetence" allowed billions in welfare fraud, particularly within programs linked to the Somali community.

Alabama Cracks Down on Violent Crime

State Rep. Chip Brown (R-Hollinger’s Island) is pushing a new bill to tighten Alabama's laws on violent crime. The proposed legislation would require prosecutors to seek bail denial and pretrial detention for Class A felonies, aiming to bolster Aniah’s Law and hold offenders accountable.

Gambling, Crime, and Chaos!

Huntsville's SWAT team busted an illegal gambling operation, arresting Robert Lorenzo Gray, Jr. on drug and gambling charges. They also seized gambling machines, firearms, and paraphernalia. Meanwhile, in Birmingham, a woman robbed a Chick-fil-A and then tried her luck at a casino with the stolen cash! A chase ensued, proving that gambling can definitely lead to lawlessness.

Trump's Bold Moves?

President Trump's actions, like the “arrest” of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, continue to raise eyebrows. His renewed interest in acquiring Greenland, citing security concerns about Russian and Chinese influence, is also stirring debate. Some Republicans are downplaying the threats, seeing them as mere negotiation tactics, while Denmark and other European nations remain opposed.

Tuberville Takes on Montgomery Crime

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is standing firm on the possibility of deploying the National Guard to tackle crime in Montgomery. He dismissed criticism from Mayor Steven Reed as a political ploy amidst rising violence.

ICE Shooting Sparks Controversy

Senator Tommy Tuberville has urged ICE officers to defend themselves and fire back if attacked, following an ICE-related shooting in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis Tensions Rise

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey wants ICE out of the city after an agent fatally shot a woman during a raid. He's disputing claims of self-defense. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is readying the National Guard, potentially setting the stage for a clash with federal authorities. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is slamming Walz's priorities amid criticism surrounding the fraud and raid.

Gamecocks Reign Supreme in Alabama Bowl Games!

Jacksonville State, always a force outside the Power Four conferences, has been leveling up their social media swagger lately, too. And they had a lot to brag about after their nail-biting victory over Troy at the Salute to Veterans Bowl in Montgomery.

Yellowhammer State Champs!

Guess what? The Gamecocks are the only team in Alabama to snag a bowl win this year! Boom!

Sorry, Not Sorry, Other Teams

Yeah, Alabama snagged a big road win against Oklahoma after the regular season ended, but it wasn't a bowl game. Auburn didn't even make the cut and passed on the Birmingham Bowl. South Alabama? No bowl for them, either.

JSU: Bowl Winners!

With their 17-13 thriller against Troy at the Cramton Bowl, Jacksonville State has earned the right to declare themselves the kings of Alabama bowl wins for this season.

Momentum is Building!

This kind of victory is HUGE for building momentum as they head into year two under Coach Charles Kelly. Expect the Gamecocks' social media to keep us entertained until kickoff next fall!
