While other states are busy hiking up taxes, Alabama's sticking to its guns! A brand-new report reveals the Yellowhammer State's still rockin' some of the lowest tax collections nationwide. How do we do it? We lean on sales taxes while keeping property taxes super low. PARCA's latest report, "How Alabama Taxes Compare, 2025 Edition," shows we collected about $4,930 per person in taxes back in 2023. That puts us ahead of just Mississippi and Tennessee. We're talkin' rock-bottom property taxes and sky-high sales taxes (though we're working on lowering the tax on food). Alabama boasts the lowest property taxes anywhere in the USA! Great for homeowners, farmers, and timber folks, but it can squeeze local governments. To make up for those low property taxes, we lean hard on sales taxes. Our combined rates are some of the highest, but hey, we're easing up on the grocery tax! Our income tax structure hasn't changed much since the 1930s. Predictable? You betcha! And we let you deduct all those federal taxes you paid. Even with the sales taxes, Alabama’s overall tax collections are still relatively low. We rank 38th in taxes as a share of personal income. So, yeah, Alabama makes it pretty easy on your wallet!Alabama: Keeping Taxes Low, Y'all!

A new poll shows America's split on President Trump's military action in Venezuela. 40% approve, 42% disapprove, and 18% are still on the fence. Republicans are mostly on board (74%), while Dems largely disapprove (76%). Independents? They're leaning towards disapproval, but with more uncertainty. State Rep. Terri Collins (R-Decatur) is hanging up her hat after 16 years! She's been a major voice on issues from abortion to education. Meanwhile, State Auditor Andrew Sorrell is sticking with his current gig, passing on a run for Secretary of State. Get ready for some demolition! NASA's tearing down a couple of old test structures at Marshall Space Flight Center on January 10th. It's all part of a plan to build shiny new facilities, thanks to a big chunk of change - at least $100 million - earmarked for Marshall. U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) is officially seeking re-election in Alabama's 3rd District! He's thanking voters and highlighting that early endorsement from President Trump, promising to keep fighting for peace, border security, and a strong economy. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is throwing in the towel! He's facing heavy criticism over a widening fraud scandal. Word on the street is that U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) might throw her hat in the ring to replace him. Meanwhile, Gov-elect Coach Tommy Tuberville is blasting Walz's policies and demanding his immediate resignation. National Championship-winning Coach U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is running for Alabama governor! His message? "It's time to come home!" He's focusing on bringing in new businesses, improving job training, reducing crime with more police, and attracting big players like Space Command. President Trump is thinking big! After Venezuela, he's hinting at Greenland as a strategic target to counter Russian/Chinese influence, criticizing Denmark's handling of it. He also thinks Cuba is "ready to fall" due to the oil situation in Venezuela. And Colombia? He's escalating the rhetoric about cocaine production, suggesting operations there "sound good," daring the Colombian president to do something about it.Headlines from Around the States!

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is calling out Hilton Hotels after reports surfaced claiming one of their Minnesota locations refused service to federal immigration officers. "Refusing service to officers enforcing our border laws? That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for the rule of law," said Marshall, who's also vying for a Senate seat. "In Alabama, we back law enforcement, not political stunts that compromise public safety." The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is alleging that a Hilton-branded hotel in Minneapolis abruptly axed room reservations for several federal officers. "[Hilton Hotels] has launched a coordinated campaign in Minneapolis to REFUSE service to DHS law enforcement," DHS posted. "When officers attempted to book rooms using official government emails and rates, Hilton Hotels maliciously CANCELLED their reservations. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Why is Hilton Hotels siding with murderers and rapists to deliberately undermine and impede DHS law enforcement from their mission to enforce our nation’s immigration laws?" DHS even shared emails allegedly from the Hampton Inn by Hilton Lakeville Minneapolis staff, informing officials of the cancellation due to their immigration work. One email reportedly stated they were "not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at our property." Hilton issued a statement to Fox News in response to the allegations. "Hilton hotels serve as welcoming places for all," the statement read. "This hotel is independently owned and operated, and the actions referenced are not reflective of Hilton values. We are investigating this matter with this individual hotel, and can confirm that Hilton works with governments, law enforcement, and community leaders around the world to ensure our properties are open and inviting to everyone."Alabama AG Slams Hilton Over Alleged Refusal to Serve Immigration Officers

Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) recently shared some insights at the annual Alabama Forestry Association Conference, promising good news for the state's farmers and foresters. Tuberville, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, emphasized the importance of the forestry industry to Alabama's economy. "We have 23 million acres of forest in Alabama, generating $36 billion annually," Tuberville noted. He acknowledged the industry's consistent presence in his office, adding, "It's a big part of our economy." He assured attendees that plans are in motion to support them, from loggers to sawmills, aiming to boost their bottom line. The Senator didn't hold back when discussing the previous administration. Tuberville stated that the Biden administration hindered efforts to support Alabama's farmers and foresters, claiming their policies favored other countries and burdened the industry with regulations. He highlighted the loss of 150,000 farms during his first two years in the Senate. Tuberville pointed to the "Big, Beautiful Bill" as a source of future benefits for farmers. He recalled pushing former President Trump for more support, stating that Trump provided $12 billion in aid previously. The senator highlighted the increase in the estate tax exemption to $15 million, aiming to help families pass down their land. "We want you to be able to afford to do that," he said. The senator concluded by reiterating the economic importance of Alabama's forestry sector and promising continued support in the coming year.Senator Tuberville Talks Trees and Trump at Forestry Conference
