Governor Kay Ivey kicked off the week by swearing in Will Parker as an Associate Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court! Parker, formerly Ivey's General Counsel since way back in 2019, was surrounded by his wife, parents, and two sons for the big moment on Monday morning. The Governor's office says Parker's already officially on the job. This move fills the seat left vacant by Bill Lewis, who recently became a U.S. District Court Judge. Parker joined the Governor’s team in June 2017, shortly after Ivey took office. The Governor's office boasts he’s been a rock-solid legal mind, advising the Governor, her cabinet, and staff on all sorts of legal issues. "Will Parker is exactly the kind of person you want on the Alabama Supreme Court," Governor Ivey declared. "He's smart, dedicated, and a man of true integrity." She added that his ability to explain complex legal matters clearly will be a huge asset to the Court. According to the Governor's office, Parker played a key role in pushing Ivey's agenda forward. He spearheaded the drafting of legislation on hot topics like banning cell phones in schools, boosting veteran services, providing teachers with paid parental leave, and improving public safety. From education to economic development, religious liberty to government accountability, Parker has been a reliable voice, the Governor's office says. "I'm honored to serve the people of Alabama in this new role," said Parker. "I'll do everything I can to live up to the high standards set by Governor Ivey." He pledged to uphold the Constitution and preserve the rule of law, following Ivey's example of dedicated service. Before joining the Governor's Office, Parker spent nearly a decade as an Assistant Attorney General, defending state policies on everything from environmental law to school choice. He's argued cases before both the Alabama Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He also clerked for Judge Ed Carnes after graduating magna cum laude from The University of Alabama School of Law. Before law school, Parker even taught U.S. history at a Montgomery high school! Governor Ivey is confident his dedication and experience will make him a valuable asset to Alabama for years to come.Big News from the Alabama Supreme Court!
