Bama Theatre Gets a New Lease on Life!
Great news for Tuscaloosa! The Tuscaloosa County Commission and PARA (Tuscaloosa County Parks and Recreation Authority) have teamed up to keep the historic Bama Theatre shining bright in downtown Tuscaloosa.
A Landmark Saved
This move ensures that this West Alabama icon, a hub for community events, performances, and gatherings, remains a vital part of our city.
A Storied Past
Since opening its doors in 1938, the Bama Theatre has been the place for arts and culture. Think musical performances, theatrical masterpieces, school productions, and a whole lot of community love.
Civic Pride
The Commission says acquiring the property keeps this gem under civic ownership, preserving its legacy as a meeting place for everyone.
A New Deal Treasure
Did you know the Bama was built in the late 30s as part of a Public Works Administration project? That's right, a true New Deal creation! The auditorium is a sight to behold, designed like a Mediterranean courtyard under the stars, complete with murals by Italian artist Navino Nataloni. It's so special, it's on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984!
The Future is Bright
County leaders are excited for the Bama to continue its role in Tuscaloosa's vibrant culture.
Arts, Schools, and YOU!
The County Commission is joining forces with the Arts and Humanities Council, plus the city and county school systems, to bring even more concerts, plays, dance performances, and pageants to the Bama!
Your Favorite Events are Staying!
Don't worry, all the events you love – concerts, movies, dance recitals, and live theater – are here to stay!
Unanimous Support
The Tuscaloosa County Commission, led by Probate Judge Rob Robertson and Commissioners Stan Acker, Jerry Tingle, Mark Nelson, and Reginald Murray, all agreed: the Bama is worth preserving.
A Legacy Continues
The goal? To ensure the Bama Theatre remains Tuscaloosa's heart for arts, entertainment, and community spirit for generations to come.
