Get ready, Alabama! Our hospitals, universities, and training programs are about to get a major boost. The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee just gave the thumbs up to its FY2026 funding bill, and it's packed with good news for the Yellowhammer State.

Senator Katie Britt, a powerhouse on the committee, played a crucial role in securing over $28.6 million in Congressionally directed spending specifically for Alabama. That's right, millions heading our way!

Britt Champions Alabama's Needs

“Alabama’s medical and academic communities have a strong champion in me," Britt declared. "These investments…will no doubt strengthen our local communities for years to come.”

Today, Britt will be at UAB with NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya, highlighting the importance of federal research dollars and Alabama's leading role in medical advancements.

Where's the Money Going?

Alabama Gets a New Weather HQ!

"We've been working on this for a very long time," says James Spann, Alabama's favorite weather guru, about the launch of the 24/7 Alabama Weather Network!

Flashback to Weather History

Spann reminisced during the launch, recalling moments like Hurricane Frederic, Snowmageddon, and the devastating April 27, 2011, tornadoes. Back then, TV was king for live weather. Times have changed, folks!

Streaming into the Future

"They’re consuming media in a different way, and we want to be there for you," Spann declared, as the network went live. This summer, the vision for statewide coverage was shared with Regions Bank, promising representation from the Gulf Coast to the Tennessee River Valley.

Regions Bank Jumps On Board

Paula Drake, Chief Marketing Officer for Regions, said it wasn't a question of if they'd sponsor, but how fast!

Wall-to-Wall Weather Coverage!

The Alabama Weather Network is now live, offering forecasts for the whole state. Get ready for non-stop coverage during severe weather in all 67 counties! Check out their website, mobile app, YouTube channel, and social media for all the weather info you need.

A Dream Come True

For Spann, this network is the realization of a dream to give Alabama the best weather coverage possible. "We’re leaning into that to increase severe weather coverage in every corner of this state, and we appreciate Regions Bank for signing on as one of our original sponsors."

Planning Ahead is Key

John Jordan, head of Retail for Regions Bank, emphasizes the importance of having a plan, just like Spann always tells us. "James Spann and his team have taught us all to have a plan for severe weather...Here at Regions, we’re focused on helping people have a financial plan."

Setting a New Standard

Drake noted that Spann's commitment to wall-to-wall coverage during tornado warnings, pioneered back in '96, is now standard procedure. She believes the Alabama Weather Network is setting a new standard!

Born in Alabama

Both the Alabama Weather Network and Regions Bank have Alabama roots. "This is our home," Jordan said. "We’re excited that Alabama has this new weather resource, and we’re proud that Regions Bank will be seen on this network as one of its inaugural sponsors."

Spann's Still on ABC 33/40!

Don't worry, you can still catch Spann on ABC 33/40 at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.! The station will also carry Alabama Weather Network's severe weather coverage.

Weather Preparedness

Two is Better Than One!

Do YOU have at least two reliable ways to get weather warnings? Spann recommends a NOAA weather radio as a must-have. Mobile apps are great as a secondary source.

Financial Planning Tips From Regions

Regions Bank also wants you to prepare financially for severe weather:

  • Have enough cash on hand.
  • Inventory your belongings.
  • Make sure you're insured.
  • Use online and mobile banking.
  • Businesses need vendor plans.

Social Security Turns 90: Still Vital for Alabamians!

Can you believe it? Social Security is celebrating its 90th birthday! This program has been a lifeline for generations of Alabamians, helping folks retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work. It's a true American success story, and a recent AARP survey proves it's still delivering!

Alabamians Value Social Security More Than Ever

The new AARP report confirms what we already know: Americans, especially Alabamians, deeply value Social Security. Get this: a whopping 95% of Republicans, 98% of Democrats, and 93% of Independents see it as essential to financial security! Even better, 67% think it's more critical for retirees now than it was five years ago.

Social Security: A Lifeline in Alabama

Here in our great state, nearly 1.2 million people rely on Social Security. From Mobile to Huntsville, it's the difference between making ends meet and struggling to survive, helping folks afford groceries, gas, and essential utilities. Plus, it pumps a massive $23.6 billion into Alabama's economy annually!

Concerns About the Future

While Social Security is a vital source of income, the AARP survey revealed a concern: over three-quarters (78%) of Americans worry it won't be enough to live on during retirement.

Protecting Independence

Almost 90% of those surveyed agree that Social Security is more than just retirement income; it's key to staying independent as we age. Independence is at the heart of AARP's mission, which is why they've launched the "Social Security: We Earned It" campaign.

Time to Act!

AARP is urging leaders in Congress to protect Social Security for current and future generations. This means closing the solvency gap and ensuring excellent customer service so everyone can access what they've earned. Our political leaders need to stand up, celebrate Social Security, and guarantee it's there for all of us, now and tomorrow. Social Security isn't a gift; it's a promise built on a lifetime of hard work, and we'll fight to keep it!

Moore Jumps into Senate Race!

Alabama's political scene just got a whole lot spicier! U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) has officially thrown his hat into the ring to succeed Senator Tommy Tuberville. He's promising to keep the "America First" train chugging along if he gets the nod. Moore held a campaign kickoff event in North Alabama.

Differentiating Himself

Moore is already looking to set himself apart from the other GOP contenders, including Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.

No Democrat Past?

"I'm probably the only one who hasn't donated to Democrats or been a Democrat at some point," Moore told the Daily Caller. "I've always been a Republican. I'm not a weathervane!"

Trump Card?

While Trump hasn't endorsed anyone yet, Moore said he'd be "honored" to have his support. He emphasized his consistent backing of Trump.

The Field So Far

A recent poll puts Marshall in the lead with 24%, with Moore at 8.8%. All three candidates are waving the "America First" flag.

Spending Talk

Moore also told the Daily Caller he wants to slash government spending. "I'd love to zero the debt out yesterday," he said, "but it'll take time."
