Trump Approves Shutdown Deal!

President Trump is all smiles over the "very good" bipartisan deal hammered out by Senator Katie Britt to end the government shutdown. Expect him to sign the bill and get things back on track ASAP!

Supreme Court Steps In!

The Supreme Court's thrown a temporary lifeline, halting a lower court ruling that would've allowed the Trump administration to pause SNAP benefits last November during the shutdown. Drama!

Senate's Suing?!

Buried in the spending bill ending the government shutdown is a juicy detail: seven Republican Senators, including Coach Tuberville, can now sue the feds for up to $500K each over those phone record shenanigans during Jack Smith's investigation.

Tuberville's Take

Governor-elect and Senator Tommy Tuberville thinks Dems will nuke the filibuster the second they retake the Senate. He's also pushing hard for voter ID and mail-in ballot restrictions for election integrity. Oh, and he thinks Schumer's future depends on AOC, not Schumer himself!

Fetterman Fires Back!

Senator John Fetterman is NOT having it with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Dems who are criticizing his vote to end the shutdown. He's not playing "chicken" with American lives, especially those SNAP-dependent Pennsylvanians!

Standing Up for Christians

Rep. Gary Palmer is joining forces with Rep. Riley Moore to condemn the horrific killings of Christians in Nigeria. They're calling it a human rights violation and genocide, demanding action while the UN sits on its hands.

NYC Councilwoman Invites Netanyahu

NYC Councilwoman Inna Vernikov is stirring the pot by inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the city. She's even daring Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani to arrest him, fulfilling his campaign promise. Talk about a bold move!

Tide Roll Over LSU (Again!), But Are They REALLY Championship Material?

The Alabama Crimson Tide did it again, folks! They snagged another W against the LSU Tigers in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night, making it win number 13 in the last 15 matchups and an eighth straight victory this season since that opening week stumble.

Chasing Championships

With just three regular season games left, Bama's basically measuring the curtains for their spot in the SEC Championship (Texas A&M, anyone?). A win there pretty much guarantees a golden ticket to the College Football Playoff.

Not All Wins Are Created Equal

This team can look unstoppable, but the LSU game was another grind, especially against a struggling Tiger offense. The big problem? The Tide's ground game just can't seem to find its rhythm.

Finebaum Sounds the Alarm

ESPN's Paul Finebaum isn't pulling any punches, claiming this running game could derail Bama's championship dreams.

"Lackluster" Performance?

"Alabama did not look good (Saturday), they were lackluster," Finebaum declared on SportsCenter. "I am actually out on Alabama because of their running game. They just can’t get it going...They have one of the best quarterbacks, though, in Ty Simpson."

The Running Game Blues

Finebaum's worries aren't unfounded. Even in offensive explosions, the classic Bama power run just hasn't been there this year.

Balance is Key

To conquer the top teams and reach their ultimate goal, the Tide needs a functional running game. Without it, Finebaum's prediction might just come true, and the championship trophy will remain just out of reach.

Alabama Conservatives Back Ban on Intoxicating Hemp Products

Folks in the Yellowhammer State are cheering for a move in the Senate that aims to curb the sale of those intoxicating hemp goodies. Word is, conservatives are stoked about the potential end of "delta-8" and other similar products.

What's the Deal?

This provision is part of a Senate funding package that's also tied to ending the government shutdown. It's not a done deal yet; it still needs a thumbs-up from the House and a signature from the Prez. But the idea is to tighten up the definition of "hemp" to prevent anything other than naturally occurring derivatives with super-low THC levels (less than 0.3%) from slipping through the cracks.

Closing the "Hemp Loophole"

Think of it as closing the "hemp loophole" that the 2018 Farm Bill accidentally created. The proposed changes would count things like delta-8 and THCA toward the THC limit, and it also excludes anything that's synthesized or "manufactured" rather than coming straight from the plant. Plus, there's a cap on how much THC-like stuff can be in finished products, and a one-year grace period before the changes kick in.

Local Groups Weigh In

The Alabama Policy Institute said that Congress is finally putting an end to the "accidental" national legalization of THC that happened with the 2018 Farm Bill. They called it a "horrible" example of federal public policy that put a burden on state law enforcement.

The Eagle Forum of Alabama also celebrated the Senate's actions, saying it shuts down the loophole that allows "chemically altered intoxicants" to be sold like candy. They've been pushing for similar changes at the state level, too.

A Win for Alabama?

Becky Gerritson, Executive Director of Eagle Forum of Alabama, called the Senate's actions "an enormous win for public health and for the safety of our children," adding, "For too long, these dangerous products have sat openly on store shelves targeting teens, harming kids, and blindsiding parents."

Ainsworth Hits the Road for Dixon in House Race

Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth spiced up Veterans Day with a road trip, stumping for Republican Garrett Dixon in the special election showdown for Alabama House District 38. This hotly-contested race aims to fill the seat left vacant by former State Rep. Debbie Wood.

A Three-Hour Drive for Dixon

Ainsworth wasn't kidding around, clocking three hours in the car to back Dixon before Tuesday's GOP runoff against Kristin Nelson. The winner will represent Chambers and Lee Counties.

Ainsworth's Take: Family Man & Outsider

In a video message, Ainsworth painted Dixon as a "family man," a down-to-earth farmer, and a savvy small-business owner. He stressed Dixon's outsider status and claimed he'd be a strong "support President Trump and conservatives" in Montgomery.

What Makes Dixon Different?

Ainsworth highlighted Dixon's family values, noting his wife is a public school teacher and their kids attend public schools. He also emphasized Dixon's business background and his disconnect from the political establishment.

The Race Heats Up

Ainsworth endorsed Dixon way back in August. Voters head back to the polls Tuesday, November 18, after the October primary failed to produce a majority winner. Nelson grabbed 46.69% to Dixon's 33.28%, with Micah Messer trailing at 20.03%. Messer's now backing Dixon, adding another layer to this election. Nelson, the Chambers County GOP chair, is married to Sheriff Jeff Nelson. Dixon, on the other hand, is a cotton and peanut farmer with his own business.

The Big Picture

Wood's resignation opened the seat, and Ainsworth's Veterans Day stop shows just how much he's betting on Dixon, calling him "exactly the kind of person we need serving in Montgomery."

Alabama's Rural Renaissance!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity folks! Alabama's rural areas are experiencing a major glow-up, and the results are stunning! Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair is shouting from the rooftops about the HUGE strides being made in bringing amazing investments and top-notch jobs to these often-overlooked regions. It's all part of Governor Kay Ivey's grand plan, and things are really cookin'!

By the Numbers: Rural Alabama is BOOMING!

Since 2020, wait for it… a whopping $7 BILLION in new investments and almost 9,000 new jobs have landed in Alabama's "targeted" rural counties! That’s according to the Alabama Department of Commerce, so you know it’s legit.

Rural Summit Shines a Light

Secretary McNair recently spoke at the Alabama Department of Commerce's annual Rural Summit, a pow-wow where economic developers, local leaders, and industry bigwigs get together to figure out how to spread the love (and the jobs!) across Alabama's rural landscape.

A New Era of Opportunity

“Alabama’s rural communities are on the verge of a new era of opportunity,” McNair declared. She noted that these regions are finally flexing their muscles, attracting big bucks, and setting the stage for serious, long-term economic growth.

Hidden Gem? More Like Rising Star!

Brenda Tuck, the mastermind behind the summit and Rural Development Manager for Commerce, says Alabama's rural economy is on fire! Growth is coming from all angles, including automotive, aerospace, advanced materials, forest products, and good ol' food production. "Rural Alabama is no longer a hidden gem; it’s a rising force," Tuck exclaimed. Companies are realizing they can thrive out there, with space to grow, the workforce to scale, and the support to win!

The Proof is in the Report

A new Commerce report, "Rural Alabama Powers Growth Potential," spills the beans on 57 economic development projects announced in targeted counties in 2024 alone! That's $1.2 billion in new investment and over 1,600 new jobs. Cha-ching!

Investing in the Future

Governor Ivey herself says, "The people of rural Alabama have always been the backbone of our state’s economy... By harnessing that potential and pairing it with strategic investment, we are ensuring that the next generation has every reason to build their future right here at home."

Innovative Programs Fueling Growth

Secretary McNair says they're keeping the momentum going with awesome programs like SEEDS and Growing Alabama, helping rural communities beef up industrial sites, improve infrastructure, and get ready for even MORE job-creating projects. The Alabama Development Fund is also stepping up to provide targeted resources to boost infrastructure, support innovation, and help local communities attract high-quality employers.

More Than Just Jobs

"Our commitment to rural Alabama is not just about job numbers," McNair said. "It’s about creating thriving communities where people can live, work and prosper… We are focused on industries that will bring not only employment but also long-term stability and growth." Whether it’s advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, tech, or renewable energy, rural Alabama is ready to lead the charge!

UNA's Entertainment Industry Program Hits a High Note!

Big news, music lovers! The University of North Alabama's Department of Entertainment Industry just landed on Billboard's radar!

Not for a Hit Single, But Still Awesome!

They didn't chart with a song, but with serious street cred! Billboard named UNA one of the Top Music Business Schools for 2025, recognizing their stellar work in shaping the future of the music biz.

A Program That Rocks

"Being on Billboard's list is HUGE," exclaimed Department Chair Janna Malone. "It's all thanks to our amazing students, faculty, staff, and industry friends. We're talking about a top-tier program that's laser-focused on giving students the real-world skills they need."

50 Years of Musical Magic

For half a century, UNA has been a launching pad for music industry dreams. Blake McDaniel, UNA's 2025 Alumni of the Year, raves about the program, saying it provided a rock-solid base in business principles and a deep understanding of the creative process.

Setting the Stage for Success

According to Blake, UNA's program "armed me with a unique advantage...equipping me with the tools to succeed in a competitive field." Sounds like UNA is striking all the right chords!

Tuberville Set to Potentially Sue Feds Over Spying!

ChumCity friends, get ready for some potential legal fireworks! It looks like Senator Tommy Tuberville might be getting a chance to strike back at the feds, thanks to a provision snuck into the latest government spending package.

What's the Deal?

Remember that FBI brouhaha from last month? Turns out Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's squad was allegedly keeping tabs on the private communications of a bunch of GOP lawmakers, including our own Senator Tuberville!

Suing the Suits

Now, The New York Times is reporting that this new resolution could pave the way for Tuberville and the other affected senators to sue Uncle Sam himself! The legal language basically says if your Senate data was snooped on by the government, you can bring a civil action. Ka-ching!

Half-Million Payday?

This provision goes all the way back to 2022 and could mean the senators could potentially sue for a cool $500,000 per claim. Cha-ching Cha-ching!

Blackburn Leading the Charge

Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee was already talking about suing Smith last month. Apparently, she thinks the whole thing is a violation of rights and the separation of powers.

More Than Just Spying

And get this: the spending package also includes full-year military funding, which is HUGE for Alabama! It also keeps the lights on at federal agencies and makes sure federal workers get their back pay.

Bama's One Big Hiccup: Can They Run the Ball?

On paper, the Crimson Tide are steamrolling the SEC! Eight straight wins and just one loss heading into the season's final stretch. Oklahoma and Auburn are the big tests looming, with Eastern Illinois in between.

Since that early season stumble against Florida State, Bama's been firing on all cylinders. The defense is locked down, and QB Ty Simpson is having a Heisman-worthy year.

Everything seems perfect for this team, basically a lock for the College Football Playoff. But there's one glaring issue that could trip them up.

Ground Game Woes

For some reason, no matter what they try, Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb’s offense can't consistently run the ball. Against LSU, it was particularly rough – just 56 total rushing yards! Daniel Hill led the way with a measly 21 yards. Luckily for Alabama, LSU's ground game was even worse, and Bama cruised to a 20-9 victory.

Air Attack to the Rescue?

Usually, a non-existent running game spells doom for an offense. But Simpson and the Tide have managed to produce through the air, thanks to Simpson's stellar season and his connection with the receivers.

Predictability Problem

But a predictable offense is easy for a good defense to stop. And right now, the Tide's offense is as predictable as it gets.

The Bottom Line

This is who they are. They aren't suddenly going to become an elite rushing team. But if they don't improve at all, it'll keep them from reaching their ultimate goals.

They don't need to be great runners, they've proven that. But they do need to be at least average. A decent running game would open things up for Simpson and his arm.

If Alabama can just get to that average level? A national title is definitely within reach!

Alabama Gets Lit: Northern Lights Dance Down South!

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity! Tuesday night was straight-up bonkers! Those usually elusive Northern Lights, typically reserved for the chilly realms of Canada and the northern USA, decided to crash Alabama's Veterans Day party.

Aurora Bora Bama!

Yep, you read that right. A massive geomagnetic storm sent the aurora borealis all the way down to the Gulf Coast, giving Alabama skygazers a light show they won't soon forget. Folks were snapping pics with their cell phones, capturing the celestial spectacle. It was like a cosmic high-five!

More to Come?

Guess what? The fun might not be over! There's a good chance the Northern Lights could make a return appearance Wednesday and Thursday nights. Keep your eyes peeled! November 11, 2025, was already a day of record-breaking cold, and then BAM! Aurora after dark. Alabama's wilding out!

Not the First Rodeo

Believe it or not, this isn't Alabama's first brush with the aurora. Skywatchers had a glimpse back in May 2024, though those were actually "light pillars," a close cousin to the Northern Lights. Still, southern skies were glowing!

All Thrill, No Spill

Good news: While the Northern Lights are stunning, they're harmless to humans, animals, and buildings. There's a tiny chance they could mess with power grids or radios, but we haven't heard of any issues. It's all show and no blow!

Snap Some Pics!

Wanna capture the magic? Pro photographer Jimmy Reynolds Jr. has your back:

  • Look towards the sunset or to its right (north).
  • Use your phone's night mode and hold steady (10 seconds works!).
  • Shoot in a one-to-one ratio for maximum light.
  • Include trees or buildings for perspective.
  • Even if you don't see anything, give it a shot! You might be surprised.

So get out there, ChumCity, and see if you can catch a glimpse of the amazing Northern Lights. As The Eagles sang, "There are stars in the southern sky." And maybe, just maybe, some aurora too!
