Governor Kay Ivey and ALEA (Alabama Law Enforcement Agency) are making waves in Montgomery! They recently wrapped up the initial "Troop Zero" enforcement detail in Montgomery County while also expanding the Capitol Patrol Unit's operations. These initiatives are all about deterring bad driving, cracking down on crime, and generally making Montgomery – especially the Capitol Complex and downtown hotspots – safer for everyone. “Public safety? It's our top job! We're committed to keeping our Capital City and the whole state safe," says Governor Ivey. She also gave a shout-out to the ALEA folks for their hard work, stating "We continue to see strong results.†This high-visibility operation was launched after the downtown shootings in October. With support from the Governor and Legislature, ALEA deployed patrols on I-65, I-85, and other major routes. Their goal? Boost traffic safety, help local partners, and discourage criminal activity. From October 25 to November 5, Troopers made 1,608 vehicle stops, dishing out 2,006 citations and 681 warnings. These efforts aimed to prevent crashes, save lives, and curb illegal stuff happening on Montgomery's busiest roads. During the same time, ALEA's Capitol Patrol Unit also expanded its reach, providing extra security around the State Capitol Complex and nearby areas – Riverfront Park, restaurants, hotels, and event venues included! In just 12 days of targeted enforcement, the Capitol Patrol members: These measures have noticeably deterred crime, protected state property, and made residents, visitors, and businesses feel safer in downtown Montgomery. ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor praised the strategic coordination and support from Governor Ivey and legislative leaders. Troop Zero aimed to create a safe environment by being courteous, enforcing traffic laws, and showing zero tolerance for bad behavior. ALEA’s DPS Director, Colonel Jonathan Archer, also acknowledged the Troopers' dedication, highlighting how they served away from their homes to support Montgomery. As the holiday season approaches, ALEA will continue targeted enforcement and security operations throughout Montgomery. Both MACS and Capitol Patrol will maintain a strong presence to protect downtown businesses, holiday shoppers, and visitors.
