We're living in the safest era ever, right? Seatbelts, airbags, carbon monoxide detectors, helmets, and every vaccination imaginable. We've practically swaddled ourselves in bubble wrap. But are we really safer? Where did the old-school jungle gyms go? And those metal, spin-you-into-oblivion contraptions that used to be playground staples? What about those metal slides that could brand you in July? Remember those rites of passage? Growing up in Georgia, life was one big adventure. Once you got your bike, the world opened up: tunnels, sewers, abandoned buildings, construction sites – anywhere we could sneak into. We were practically feral. We'd bomb down hills on skateboards sans helmets, jump bikes over plywood ramps and unlucky friends. We played with fire (sometimes a little too much fire), and did unbelievably dumb things with fireworks. Frozen ponds? Private golf courses? Bring 'em on! Objectively, life is less risky now. But what's the price? For generations, risk was how we tested ourselves. Young folks learned to hunt, fish, handle firearms responsibly, build a fire, and defend themselves. Yeah, we did some seriously boneheaded things, but there was a point to it. They were rituals of courage. Small doses of fear that seasoned us for the bigger challenges ahead. Because life is full of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Now, much of that risk has been sanitized. Kids grow up with structured play, constantly supervised, or alone staring at a screen. We've lost those essential courage-building moments. Good luck finding a playground spinner these days! Young adults today aren't even that interested in driving! The number of 16-year-old drivers is way down since 1983. Fewer teens are even dating! Maybe it's because they have no wheels and a backseat to call their own. This risk avoidance spills over into adulthood. We track our steps, monitor our heart rate, analyze our sleep with rings and watches. We insure everything, even our pets and our identities! We've made life so risk-free, we might be raising a generation allergic to failure. Without risk, life's just...flat. No adventure, no uncertainty, no growth. A safe life might be long, but it could also be seriously boring. Think about your best memories and biggest wins. Bet they included some adventure, some possibility of failure. Nobody tells the story about the time they stayed in and went to bed early. The best moments are often the riskiest. We're always told to "be of good courage." Because courage is what lets us move forward, even when we're scared. It doesn't erase fear, it enables action. It lets us fight for something bigger than ourselves. Safety protects, but risk and courage bring color to our otherwise monochrome lives. Are We Too Safe For Our Own Good?

After years of political games, it looks like President Trump is steering Space Command (SPACECOM) HQ back to its rightful place: Huntsville, Alabama! Let's be clear: this should NEVER have been a political football. Back in 2021, Huntsville was selected as the IDEAL home for SPACECOM after a rigorous and super competitive evaluation. Top brass, including Biden's own Air Force Secretary, Frank Kendall, agreed: Redstone Arsenal is the place to be! But then, Joe Biden threw a wrench in the works. He ignored the Air Force, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and even the DOD's Inspector General – all of whom gave Huntsville the thumbs-up – and decided to stick with Colorado. This is a real head-scratcher because the current setup is just TEMPORARY! SPACECOM is scattered across four buildings, with a couple in unsecured residential areas! Huge security risk, folks! Luckily, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are stepping in to fix this mess. Rewind to 2020: The Air Force did a HUGE study to find the perfect permanent home for SPACECOM. They looked at 66 locations in 24 states! And guess what? Huntsville's Redstone Arsenal was the clear winner in 2021. But after taking office, Biden slammed the brakes on the move and, in 2023, went against the expert military advice and kept HQ in Colorado Springs. Besides all the independent reviews saying Huntsville is the best, it just MAKES SENSE! Huntsville already has the infrastructure to support SPACECOM. Colorado Springs? Not so much. The GAO report even mentions ongoing communication and personnel problems there! Plus, moving HQ to Huntsville saves American taxpayers over $420 million! Redstone Arsenal is already a hub for related industries and government agencies like NASA, the Missile Defense Agency, and the Space Development Agency. Huntsville has housing, infrastructure, and everything needed to support the influx of jobs. We're talking at least 1,700 workers and their families moving to the Rocket City, plus THOUSANDS of jobs for Alabamians! President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are putting our nation's security first by moving SPACECOM to where it will be most effective and give taxpayers the best bang for their buck. They, along with Secretary Meink, are bringing back merit and integrity to the military. Space is the future, and Alabama is the place to ensure the United States dominates this critical domain!SPACECOM: Coming Home to Huntsville!
