Portland's Antifa Antics: Media Silent?

Are things really fine and dandy? While Portland's Antifa crew keeps tangling with the feds, some media outlets seem to be whistling a different tune.

Alabama's Police Pivot

Meanwhile, in Alabama, Congressman Shomari Figures (D-Montgomery) is calling for more police funding! Funny how the media and Dems are suddenly all about "handling" crime... seems like a convenient switcheroo.

Walk the Walk, Figures!

If Rep. Figures is serious, shouldn't he back a bill that actually penalizes cities that try to defund the police? Actions speak louder than words, right?

Addiction Treatment Battle Brews in Shelby County

A heated debate is unfolding in Shelby County over much-needed addiction treatment facilities. Despite the county lacking a single residential treatment center, a major rehab chain is actively trying to block a 60-bed project that's already cleared state hurdles.

The Players

Longleaf Recovery & Wellness, an Alabama-based company, is seeking to establish Longleaf Lodge, a $33 million facility featuring detox and residential beds on a sprawling 125-acre horse farm. Their goal is to provide accessible, local treatment options for Alabamians struggling with addiction.

On the other side, Bradford Health Services, backed by a New York private-equity firm, is challenging Longleaf's Certificate of Need (CON), arguing against the need for additional beds.

What's at Stake?

Alabama's health-planning council and Governor Kay Ivey have already recognized the need for additional substance-use beds in Shelby County. However, Bradford continues to oppose Longleaf, citing anti-competitive concerns and questioning the project's financial model.

A History of Opposition

This isn't the first time Bradford has challenged similar projects in Alabama. They've previously opposed smaller startups and veteran-focused initiatives, raising concerns about their strategy of limiting competition within the state. Meanwhile, Bradford has been expanding its operations in other states, raising questions about their priorities.

Longleaf's Response

Colin Harris, Founder and CEO of Longleaf, is speaking out about the challenges they face. "Bradford is trying to block our efforts to bring real treatment options to Alabama," he states. He emphasizes Longleaf's commitment to providing quality, accessible care and criticizes Bradford's actions as prioritizing profit over people.

The CON Process Delay

Due to Bradford's challenge, Longleaf's application has been removed from the CON Board's agenda and will now be reviewed by an administrative law judge. This delay could postpone the opening of the much-needed facility by months, leaving Alabama families without critical local treatment options.

Shutdown Showdown: Palmer Blames Dems!

Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) isn't pulling any punches, folks! He's pointing fingers squarely at the Democratic leadership for the looming government shutdown, saying they're just trying to keep their radical left base happy.

House Passed a Funding Bill... But

Palmer notes the House already did its job, passing a Republican funding bill that would keep the lights on until late November. But will it pass the Senate hurdle?

Dems Playing Political Games?

According to Palmer, the Democrats are playing games, using the shutdown threat as leverage for their own agenda. He accuses Schumer and Jeffries of political maneuvering, more concerned with fending off challenges from the left than governing responsibly.

What Dems Really Want?

Palmer claims Democrats are pushing for things the "hard left" demands: welfare and free healthcare for those crossing the border illegally. He even suggested they'd follow a radical script, handing out free groceries if they could!

Healthcare Hijack?

Palmer blasted Democrats for trying to make healthcare a part of the shutdown debate. He promotes his own "Health Options Act" as a way to provide alternatives without repealing Obamacare, giving people choices.

National Security at Risk?

Palmer warns the shutdown jeopardizes national security, especially with threats like China looming. He believes Democrats are prioritizing appeasing their base over addressing critical issues. He urges everyone to pay attention and realize what's at stake!

Finebaum Flirts with Politics, Reveals ESPN's Trump Block

Could Paul Finebaum, the voice of the SEC, be heading to Washington? He's considering a run for Alabama's open U.S. Senate seat in 2026! But amidst the political buzz, a surprising revelation has emerged: ESPN once nixed a planned interview with then-President Donald Trump.

The Interview That Never Was

Finebaum told Clay Travis that he had secured the interview with Trump leading up to the massive 2019 Alabama-LSU showdown. He was set to head to the White House, but ESPN brass shut it down, citing a policy against mixing politics and sports.

"I was devastated," Finebaum admitted. "It wasn't about politics. It was about the President of the United States coming to the biggest college football game of the year."

Double Standard at ESPN?

While ESPN claims to "stick to sports," some observers point out a perceived double standard. Barack Obama's NCAA Tournament bracket picks were an annual event for years, generating significant coverage. This has led some to suggest that ESPN's policy may not be applied consistently.

Finebaum's Future: Gridiron or Government?

As Finebaum contemplates his next move, the question remains: will he trade the sidelines for the Senate? He acknowledges that Republican leaders in Alabama have approached him, and he's giving the idea serious thought. Only time will tell if we'll see "Senator Finebaum" in 2026!

Shaun Alexander's Family is Growing - A LOT!

Get ready for some serious baby news, ChumCity! Former Alabama Crimson Tide legend Shaun Alexander just dropped a bombshell: he and his wife, Valerie, are expecting their FOURTEENTH child!

Fourteen?!

Yep, you read that right. The 2005 NFL MVP shared the exciting news on Kay Adams' "Up and Adams" show, saying they're just starting to spread the word. Looks like the Alexander clan is about to get even bigger!

A Family of Champions

The newest addition will join siblings Heaven, Trinity, Eden, Joseph, Justus, Temple, Honor, Jedidiah, Eternity, Hosanna, Hope, and Judea. The Alexanders tragically lost their daughter, Torah, in 2017, just 70 days after she was born. Our thoughts are with them.

Roll Tide, Roll Deep

Shaun Alexander's legendary career at Alabama saw him rack up over 3,500 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns. He continued his dominance in the NFL, crushing defenses for nearly 10,000 yards and 100 touchdowns! Congrats to Shaun and Valerie on their growing family!

Is Paul Finebaum Ditching ESPN for a Senate Run in Alabama?

Hold on to your hats, ChumCity citizens! The already jam-packed race for Alabama's open U.S. Senate seat might be getting a whole lot more interesting. Sports media personality Paul Finebaum, the voice you either love or love to hate, is apparently considering throwing his hat in the ring!

Finebaum's Political Awakening

Finebaum, who's been with ESPN since way back in 2013, revealed in a recent interview that he's mulling over a jump into the political arena. He identifies as a Republican and even voted for Donald Trump in '24. But this isn't just some spur-of-the-moment thing. Finebaum says he felt a pull after feeling unfulfilled by on-air work after a recent tragedy.

The Tuberville Factor

Senator Tommy Tuberville, yes, that Tuberville (ex-Auburn coach), isn't running for re-election to the Senate. That opens the door, and Finebaum is eyeing it. He plans to decide in the next month or so whether to dive in. The primary's set for May 2026.

A Crowded Field

If Finebaum does run, he'll be facing some tough competition. Current frontrunners include Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and U.S. Rep. Barry Moore. Also, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson is in the mix. Ex-Alabama QB A.J. McCarron even chimed in and called Finebaum a "dumbass." It's heating up, folks!

From Memphis to 'Bama

While not a native Alabamian, Finebaum claims the state as his home. He says he feels a deep connection to the people there. And let's be honest, the residency requirements are pretty minimal – just gotta prove you've lived there for one day!

Finebaum's Political Leanings

Where does Finebaum really stand politically? He calls himself a "moderate" and a "middle-of-the-road person." He's even friendly with both Tuberville and former Democratic Senator Doug Jones.

Trump's Influence

Finebaum's relationship with Trump is complicated. He's criticized the former president in the past, but now says he couldn't say no if Trump urged him to run.

The Celebrity Candidate Gamble

History isn't exactly on Finebaum's side. Celebrity candidates often struggle, especially against seasoned politicians. But Alabama's different. In a state where the Republican primary is everything, Finebaum's name recognition could be a huge advantage.

The Big Question

Can Finebaum pull a "Tuberville" and ride a wave of popularity to victory? Or will he be just another celebrity candidate casualty? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: it's going to be a wild ride!

ALFA Announces 2026 Endorsements!

Alabama's largest agricultural organization, the Alabama Farmers’ Federation (ALFA), has dropped its endorsements for the 2026 statewide races! And these FarmPAC endorsements are expected to carry some serious weight in the May 2026 Republican primaries.

Here's the rundown of who ALFA is backing:

  • U.S. Senate: Steve Marshall
  • Lieutenant Governor: Wes Allen
  • Attorney General: Katherine Robertson
  • Commissioner of Agriculture: Corey Hill
  • Secretary of State: Caroleene Dobson
  • State Auditor: Derek Chen
  • Supreme Court, Place 7: Brad Mendheim
  • Supreme Court, Place 8: Greg Shaw
  • Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 4: Mary Windom

  • Court of Civil Appeals, Place 4: Ben Bowden
  • Court of Civil Appeals, Place 5: Matt Fridy
  • Public Service Commission, Place 1: Matt Gentry
  • Public Service Commission, Place 2: Chris Beeker

What ALFA is Saying

"Candidates often say the auditorium where we hold the FarmPAC meeting is the most intimidating venue in state politics. That’s because they understand the value of our grassroots endorsement,” says Federation President Jimmy Parnell. He emphasized the importance of candidates engaging with local leaders throughout the state.

"The 2026 election cycle will be a turning point for state government," Parnell added, highlighting the significance of the upcoming elections for Alabama's future.

Earlier Endorsements

ALFA previously endorsed Tommy Tuberville for Governor and Young Boozer for re-election as State Treasurer.

A Closer Look at Some Candidates

  • Steve Marshall (U.S. Senate): The current Attorney General aiming for the Senate.
  • Wes Allen (Lt. Governor): The current Secretary of State vying for the open Lt. Governor seat.
  • Katherine Roberson (Attorney General): Current chief counsel of the state attorney general’s office.
  • Corey Hill (Agriculture Commissioner): The Mayor of Douglas and a poultry and cattle farmer.
  • Caroleene Dobson (Secretary of State): A real estate attorney and previous Congressional nominee.
  • Derek Chen (State Auditor): An attorney with experience in the Secretary of State's office.
  • Matt Gentry (Public Service Commission, Place 1): The Sheriff of Cullman County.
  • Chris Beeker (Public Service Commission, Place 2): Appointed to the PSC to fill his father's seat.

Why This Matters

ALFA boasts over 365,000 paid members in Alabama, making their endorsements a powerful force. In a state where the Republican primary often decides the general election, these endorsements are definitely something to watch!

The primary is set for May 19, 2026. Get ready to vote!

Shutdown Showdown

The White House is saying "shutdown!", after the Senate whiffed on a funding bill. Polls say folks aren't digging Democrats shutting down the government over those ObamaCare tax credits. But get this: Independents are pointing fingers at Republicans and Trump. It's a blame game!

Tuberville & Palmer Sound Off

Governor-elect Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) are convinced Democrats are pushing this shutdown thing for their "radical" policies and to keep their left-wing base happy.

Hegseth's Message to the Military

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is telling military leaders to raise standards, ditch the wokeness, and get ready for war! If you're not on board, he suggests resigning. Naturally, he's getting some pushback, but don't expect him to back down.

Finebaum for Senate?

Sports radio legend Paul Finebaum is thinking about a Senate run as a Republican! The media knives are out, calling him a hypocrite for seeking advice from Trump after supposedly being blocked from interviewing him by ESPN. But Senator Tuberville is backing him, saying Finebaum will have plenty of support.

UA Prof Controversy Continues

University of Alabama professor Rahim Thawer, who identifies as "racialized,” anti-Zionist, and queer, is still facing calls for his firing after those questionable posts about Charlie Kirk and the Hamas terror attack mastermind. The whole situation is a mess.

FAMU Announcer's Apology

Florida A&M University’s announcer Joe Bullard apologized for a joke about the Alabama State University Honey Beez dance team, implying sponsorship by Ozempic. Some might not think the apology is enough.

Huntsville Protest Planned

Young Palestinians in Huntsville are planning a week of action downtown to raise awareness about their cause. It’s timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel, and they're saying they're honoring the "martyrs" involved.
