Alabama Celebrates "Woods to Goods" Week!

Get ready to give a shout-out to Alabama's awesome forest products industry! Governor Kay Ivey has officially declared the third week of October as "Alabama Woods to Goods Week," aligning it with National Forest Products Week.

What's the Hype?

From October 19-25, 2025, we're celebrating the amazing folks, resources, companies, and environmental impact of this vital industry. This marks the fifth year Governor Ivey has recognized "Alabama Woods to Goods Week." It’s kind of a big deal!

Big Impact, Big Numbers!

Did you know the forest industry contributes over $36 BILLION to Alabama's economy? And it's more than just money; it supports a whopping 123,624 jobs for Alabamians. We're talking logging, trucking, milling... the whole shebang. Plus, Alabama’s forests grow way more wood than is harvested.

Growing Strong and Sustainable

Over 80% more wood volume grows in our forests each year than is harvested, and over 90% of those forests are privately owned. "Woods to Goods Week" highlights this sustainability and recognizes the impact of everyone involved, from loggers and truck drivers to mill owners and landowners.

Join the Celebration!

Expect mill tours, logging site visits, children’s book donations, land management demos, and a ton of other cool educational events. From students to public officials, there's something for everyone to learn about the industry's positive impact.

A Big Thanks to Our Sponsor!

Alabama Woods to Goods Week is proudly brought to you by the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils.

"No Kings" Marches: What Were They REALLY About?

Remember those "No Kings" marches that popped up recently? Thousands hit the streets, supposedly protesting tyranny. But let's be real, does anyone seriously think America has a king? Seems like a history lesson is in order for some folks.

Beyond the Surface: Unpacking the "No Kings" Message

These marches, fueled by socialist, Marxist, and left-wing activists, are less about actual royalty and more about political pressure. They claim Trump was acting like a king, but if that were true, would they even be allowed to march?

The Schumer Shutdown and its Victims

Think about what's really going on. We're facing a government shutdown orchestrated by Senator Chuck Schumer, who's apparently terrified of upsetting the very folks behind these marches.

Who suffers? Our military families potentially missing paychecks. Federal law enforcement, Border Patrol, air traffic controllers, and TSA agents working without knowing when they'll get paid. Vital programs for women, children, and infants facing funding cuts.

The Democrat Agenda Behind the Chaos

Schumer claims the shutdown is about extending Obamacare COVID subsidies. But that's not the whole story. They want to add another $1.5 TRILLION to our national debt. They want to ditch the Medicaid work requirements. They want to undo efforts to eliminate fraud and duplication costing taxpayers billions. And they even want to redirect money meant to address the rural healthcare crisis to provide free healthcare to illegal aliens.

Following the Money, Following the Power

So, what's the real purpose of these marches? It's about bullying Schumer into bending to the radical socialist/Marxist agenda. They know Schumer is afraid of a primary challenge from the likes of AOC.

Democrats' Fear of the Left

Many Democrats in Congress are in the same boat. They're reportedly terrified of being "hammered" by the left-wing base, which could end their careers. One insider even suggested a Senator could raise millions by voting against reopening the government, showing where the power truly lies.

The Reality Check

The "No Kings" website talks about fighting chaos and corruption, but the real chaos is the open border policies pushed by Biden and the Democrats. The real corruption is the previous administration's handling of Biden's cognitive decline. And the real cruelty is the shutdown impacting working families.

Republicans Fighting Back

Republicans in Congress have passed a funding bill, fought to secure our borders, strengthen our economy, and restore common sense. They're working on healthcare legislation to lower premiums and protect those with pre-existing conditions.

The Bottom Line

Don't be fooled. This shutdown isn't about healthcare. It's about the Democrats clinging to the support of the socialist and Marxist millionaires and billionaires who keep them in power.

Fairhope's Royal Rumble: Dissent Takes a… Unique Form

So, Fairhope's "No Kings" event got a little more interesting. Seems a protester rocking a full-on penis costume was asked to de-robe (so to speak). She declined, things escalated with the fuzz, and BAM! Instant internet (in)famy.

Viral Vexation

Now she's become the darling of, shall we say, a certain segment of the population. Even Stephen Colbert jumped on the bandwagon, proving that no joke is too low-hanging when ratings are at stake. Fifteen minutes of fame, indeed.

Dale Jackson Weighs In

Speaking of voices of reason (or at least, a voice), Dale Jackson, the big brain from Yellowhammer News, is probably having a field day with this. Catch him weekdays on WVNN from 5-9 a.m. to hear his take. Get ready for some opinions!

Alfa Insurance Announces HQ Renovations in Montgomery!

Big news, ChumCity! Alfa Insurance and the Alabama Farmers Federation are giving their new corporate headquarters a serious facelift! The old Capitol Commerce Center building off I-85 is about to get a major upgrade.

Kicking Off the Project

Alfa and Federation President Jimmy Parnell, along with city officials, Chamber of Commerce reps, and construction partners, officially launched the renovation project. Get ready for some exciting changes!

A Commitment to Montgomery

"We're pumped to start these renovations!" said Parnell. "Alfa's always been a Montgomery staple, and as we approach our 80th anniversary, it's only right our employees move into this awesome new building."

A Win for the Capital City

Anna Buckalew, head of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, sees Alfa's new HQ as a HUGE win. "Corporate headquarters are a big deal! They bring jobs, leadership, and boost our whole region. Alfa's reinvestment here shows their commitment to Montgomery, and we're thrilled to support their growth!"

Modern Workspaces on the Horizon

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is handling the architecture and engineering, promising modern workspaces designed for collaboration. Mark Coyle of GMC shared, "Designing Alfa's HQ is special, especially since we designed the original building 20 years ago! We're stoked to breathe new life into this space."

A Legacy of Excellence Continues

Brasfield & Gorrie is leading the construction. Robby Hayes, Regional VP, said they're excited to team up with Alfa again. "This project is the next chapter in our long partnership. We're transforming a familiar building into a modern, efficient headquarters. We're proud to advance Alfa's vision and build on our shared legacy in Montgomery!"

Gratitude for Local Support

Parnell thanked the Montgomery County Commission, City Council, and Chamber of Commerce for their support in keeping Alfa's HQ in the Capital City. "We wanted to minimize employee displacement while creating a modern workplace. We appreciate everyone recognizing Alfa's value to the River Region!"

Tigers on the Brink?

Another week, another Auburn loss. Are we starting to feel a little... familiar? The Tigers are staring down the barrel of yet another game that feels like Hugh Freeze is coaching to keep his job.

Missouri Meltdown

Let's be honest, the offensive performance in that overtime loss against Mizzou was brutal. Many were shocked Freeze wasn't shown the door then and there.

The Freeze File: Not So Frosty

The stats don't lie. Freeze's record at Auburn is a concerning 14-18 overall, with a dismal 1-12 record against ranked opponents.

Recruiting Wins, Saturday Losses

While the recruiting game has undeniably improved, the on-field results are worse than what we saw before. That's a major problem.

Harsin's Ghost?

Bryan Harsin actually snagged more wins with far less talent. Freeze, supposedly an offensive guru, is struggling to put points on the board. His transfer portal QB pick hasn't exactly panned out. Is enough finally enough? It feels like it.

Coaching Conundrums

This team doesn't just lose; it invents new ways to do it. That screams coaching issues. The lack of resilience and the inability to overcome adversity? More coaching. And shrinking when the pressure's on? That's coaching malpractice.

The Dream is Over

For two years, Freeze sold the dream: better roster, more wins. The roster's improved, but the wins haven't followed.

Must-Win in Fayetteville?

Freeze is running out of time, and the fans are running out of patience. This week's road game against Arkansas feels like a do-or-die situation. But even a win might not be enough. A decision likely already has been made.

Time for a Change

Freeze isn't the coach to bring Auburn back to its glory days. It's time to find someone who can.

Gridiron Glory to Governor's Office? AJ McCarron Enters Lt. Governor Race!

The race for Alabama's Lt. Governor just got a whole lot more interesting, folks! Former Alabama quarterback legend AJ McCarron is throwing his hat in the ring for 2026, shaking up the already competitive field that includes seasoned players like Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate and Secretary of State Wes Allen.

McCarron's Playbook: Outsider with Trump's Backing

McCarron, a political rookie at 35, is positioning himself as an outsider, a staunch Trump supporter, and the future "quarterback" for a potential Tommy Tuberville-led administration. Big promises, but can he deliver?

Allen Counters: It's About More Than Just Talk!

Secretary Allen isn't taking this new challenge lying down. He's drawing a clear line in the sand, emphasizing his experience as a former state lawmaker, probate judge, and current Secretary of State. Allen claims his record speaks for itself, highlighting his actions on conservative issues and his commitment to efficient government.

Allen's Ace in the Hole: Voting Record?

Allen's camp is pointing out that McCarron registered to vote in Alabama just recently, in October 2025, and hasn't participated in any primary or general elections. Is this a fumble for the former quarterback?

The Current Lt. Governor Weighs In

Current Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth summed it up perfectly: "This race just got interesting." Indeed! This promises to be a showdown for the ages, and ChumCity will be here to keep you in the loop!
