Hold on to your hats, ChumCity! The 92nd Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo (ADSFR) is hitting Dauphin Island July 17-20, and it's gonna be HUGE! This isn't just a fishing tournament; it's a full-blown spectacle that draws massive crowds every year. Believe it or not, this whole thing started with a small tarpon tournament back in '29. Now, it's the world's biggest saltwater fishing tourney, attracting around 4,000 anglers and boasting over 120 sponsors. It's gonna be a party! During the rodeo weekend, expect around 100,000 folks to flood the rodeo grounds. Grab a classic rodeo T-shirt, check out the vendors, and gawk at the incredible variety of fish brought in. This awesome event is all thanks to the Mobile Jaycees, who work tirelessly to make it a reality. Things kick off Thursday night with Captain T-Bone's Liars Contest and that is followed by three days of intense fishing competition. This year's competitors will be vying for almost a million dollars in cash and prizes. One lucky angler will even snag a Contender 26Bay boat with a Yamaha 250-horsepower outboard! The winner is chosen randomly from ALL anglers who weigh in a legal fish. Meaning you have the same chance to win with a small white trout or a massive marlin. Conservation is key! This year, the rodeo is introducing the "Return 'Em Right" category. If you use a descending device to release reef fish, you'll be entered into random drawings. It's all about boosting survival rates and keeping our reefs healthy. Shark enthusiasts, rejoice! After a successful comeback in 2022, the shark category is back, focusing on tiger and bull sharks only, in separate categories. Remember the 1,019-pound tiger shark that shattered records in 2023? This year's gonna be epic! Good news for red snapper fans! The red snapper category and jackpot are a go, with plenty of quota remaining. The ADSFR isn't just about fishing; it's also about science! Researchers from the University of South Alabama, Mississippi State University, and Dauphin Island Sea Lab will be collecting data and samples. This is a great opportunity to learn more about different species. The rodeo blasts off with a cannon at 5 a.m. on Friday, July 18, and ends with another cannon at 5 p.m. on July 20. The Jaycees have been hard at work making the rodeo site even better. Look out for the new 50x50 operations area and a VIP deck with killer views. Plus, The Molly Ringwalds are back on Friday night to keep the party going!Get Ready to Rumble: Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is Back!
