Dump Truck Wreaks Havoc in South Huntsville!
Hold on to your hats, folks! A wild Wednesday afternoon in South Huntsville saw a dump truck lose its brakes and go on a bit of a rampage, leaving two people injured and a Target store sporting some new (and unwanted) architectural features.
Brake Failure Leads to Intersection Chaos
Around 1:30 p.m., a dump truck reportedly suffered a mechanical brake failure while cruising down Ledges Drive. Picture this: barreling down a hill "full speed," unable to stop! The truck then careened into the Carl T. Jones Drive intersection, smashing into a car waiting at the light.
Target Takes a Hit!
After the initial collision, the truck continued its journey, slamming right into the Target store in Jones Valley! Yikes! This left the driver trapped and injured a passenger.
Rescue and Recovery
Huntsville Fire and Rescue and the Madison County Rescue Squad jumped into action, spending almost two hours freeing the driver. Thankfully, injuries were considered non-life-threatening, and both the driver and passenger were taken to the hospital in stable condition. One other person was evaluated at the scene.
Awning Collapse and Brick Wall Blues
As towing crews worked to remove the truck, an awning decided to join the chaos and collapsed on top of the vehicle! WHNT reports that a large hole was left in the brick wall of the building. Talk about a bad day!
Target Stays Open!
Despite the damage, the Target store remained open! Most of the damage was limited to the exterior, so shoppers could still grab their essentials.
Investigation Underway
The Huntsville Police Department is on the case, investigating the incident. While foul play isn't suspected, the Traffic Homicide Unit is involved due to the severity of the crash. Stay tuned for updates!
