Alabama Lt. Governor Runoff Gets Down and Dirty!

The race for Alabama's Lieutenant Governor just got a whole lot spicier! Secretary of State Wes Allen and former Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl are locked in a heated battle, and things have taken a personal turn.

Residency Rumble!

During a Shelby County GOP forum, the candidates went head-to-head on the issue of residency. Remember those whispers about Wahl's eligibility? Well, they turned into a full-blown shouting match!

Allen didn't hold back, basically saying he would have tried to boot Wahl off the ballot himself if he'd had the chance. Ouch! He called out Wahl for allegedly holding a Tennessee driver's license while registered to vote in Alabama, declaring you can't be a citizen of two states at once.

Wahl fired back, admitting he had a residence in Tennessee but insisting there's nothing illegal about it. He claims he meets the state's residency requirements and could prove it in court.

Turning the Tables

But Wahl wasn't done. He turned the tables on Allen, pointing out that the state constitution requires constitutional officers (except the lieutenant governor) to live in the state capital. Since Allen's registered to vote and has a driver's license in Troy, Wahl questioned his eligibility to serve as Secretary of State!

Echoes of Trump?

Wahl even accused Allen of pulling a move similar to what Democrats tried to do to President Trump – trying to remove a political opponent from the ballot using technicalities. Heavy stuff!

Experience vs. Outsider

Beyond the residency drama, Allen touted his years of experience as Pike County probate judge, a state representative, and now Secretary of State. He positioned himself as the guy best equipped to help Senator Tommy Tuberville get things done.

Wahl, on the other hand, is running as the outsider, leaning on Trump's endorsement and his time as ALGOP chairman. He's pushing to eliminate Alabama's income tax, arguing it's time for Alabama to catch up with states like Florida and Tennessee.
