Alabama Gets New Top Feds!

Big news from D.C. - the U.S. Senate has given the green light to Phil Williams and Thomas Govan, Jr. as our new U.S. Attorneys for Alabama! This victory is a major boost for President Trump's picks in the Yellowhammer State.

The Vote Breakdown

The confirmations came as part of a massive package of 49 Trump nominees, pushed through by Senate Majority Leader John Thune. The final vote? A close 46-43, mostly along party lines. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), who championed both nominations, even presided over the chamber during the vote!

Senator's Stamp of Approval

"Huge for the state of Alabama!" Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) exclaimed. "Phil Williams and Thomas Govan Jr. are patriots and will be great as our U.S. attorneys."

Meet the Appointees

Trump initially nominated Williams and Govan last October, choosing two well-known Alabama conservatives to head up federal prosecutions.

  • Phil Williams: Taking the reins in the Northern District (Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa!), Williams, a Gadsden attorney, Army Colonel, and former radio host, promises a strong partnership with local law enforcement. He succeeds Prim Escalona. He emphasizes "integrity, impartiality, and fidelity to the Constitution.”

  • Thomas Govan: Govan is heading to the Middle District (Montgomery), where he previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Succeeding Kevin P. Davidson, he's the first Senate-confirmed U.S. Attorney for the Middle District since 2021. Senator Britt calls him an "incredible choice," citing his expertise and deep knowledge of the legal system.

What They Said

Williams declared, "This is the honor of a lifetime," and promised a focus on justice applied "fairly and consistently." Govan, a career prosecutor, brings a wealth of experience to the role.

The Path to Confirmation

Senator Britt played a key role in getting both nominees through the Senate Judiciary Committee, backing them from the start. Seems like Alabama's legal landscape is about to get a shakeup!
