New Treatment Center Coming to Shelby County!

Big news, ChumCity! Longleaf Recovery & Wellness just cleared a major hurdle in Alabama's healthcare system, snagging a Certificate of Need (CON) to build Longleaf Lodge, a 60-bed residential treatment center for substance use disorders in Shelby County.

A Focus on Recovery

Longleaf Lodge is set to open its doors in early 2027, boasting 10 detox beds and 50 residential treatment beds. This project marks the first CON-approved facility of its kind in Shelby County, aiming to meet the area's need for intensive inpatient services.

A Message from the CEO

"This is a major step forward for treatment in Alabama," said Longleaf CEO Colin Harris in a video recorded at the future site. He emphasized the importance of creating a calm and supportive environment for patients. "Longleaf Lodge will be set within a quiet, wooded landscape... that allows individuals to fully focus on recovery," Harris added.

What to Expect at Longleaf Lodge

Located on a sprawling 150-acre rural property, the lodge will feature residential cabins, medical and clinical spaces, and areas for dining, fitness, and group activities. The focus? Creating a safe, private, and therapeutic atmosphere. Treatment will include medically supervised detox, individual and group therapy, family involvement, and structured routines, all designed to help adults struggling with substance use disorders and mental health issues.

Overcoming Obstacles

Securing the CON wasn't easy. Longleaf faced opposition during the approval process, highlighting the challenges healthcare providers can face when expanding services. But now, with the green light, development is moving forward! Longleaf's expansion builds on their existing Alabama-based treatment network, including the Birmingham Recovery Center in Hoover and services across the state.
