Senator Britt Sounds the Alarm on Social Media and AI Dangers to Kids!

U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) isn't backing down from her fight to protect our kids from the potential harms of social media and artificial intelligence (AI). She's been a vocal advocate for online safety, even introducing bills like the Kids Off Social Media Act and the Stop the Scroll Act earlier this year.

"I'm Living It!"

Britt recently spoke on CNN's "State of the Union," bringing a parent's perspective to the discussion. "I often say I don’t have to ask people what it’s like to raise kids right now, I am living it," she said, emphasizing the struggles parents face in keeping up with rapidly evolving technology.

Are We Feeling Better After Scrolling?

She challenged the endless scroll culture, asking, "When’s the last time you scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and felt better after you finished?" Britt stressed the urgency of establishing safeguards, especially in the face of increasingly powerful AI.

Congress, It's Time to ACT!

Frustrated with Congress's slow response, Britt exclaimed, "Enough is enough!" She questioned how many more heartbreaking stories are needed before meaningful legislation is passed. While acknowledging AI companies could take steps on their own, she pointed out a troubling pattern of prioritizing profits over people.

Elevating the Conversation for Parents Everywhere

Britt is determined to keep this issue in the spotlight. "I want to elevate this topic for parents from coast to coast," she declared, highlighting the need for better protection for kids online. She referenced the dangers of sextortion and online bullying, issues she says demand action.

Accountability is Key

Britt argued that social media companies and AI developers must be held accountable. "If you are designing machines or designing platforms or algorithms that are pushing kids into depression or pushing them towards suicide, you absolutely should be held liable for that," she stated.
