The Birmingham sports scene is reeling this week after the passing of Christina Chambers, a former WBRC sports reporter, in Hoover. Chambers was a familiar face, known for her insightful coverage of high school and college sports across Alabama. Her passion and dedication earned her respect and admiration throughout the local sports media world. Tributes and heartfelt messages have poured in, highlighting the positive impact she had on so many lives. Auburn Tigers basketball coach Steven Pearl opened his recent press conference by sharing his memories of Chambers. He emphasized the widespread affection for her, noting how she touched both those who knew her well and those who simply admired her work. He wanted everyone to understand just how special she was. "She was a light. I don't know if that does her justice. She was a beacon, she was a luminary," Pearl said, his voice filled with emotion. "She just lit up a room every time she walked into it. She was what we should all aspire to be...a true professional who loved covering sports in this state. She covered our Final Four run in 2019, and I think she was even more excited to be there than we were." Pearl's voice cracked as he spoke about offering prayers for Chambers' friends and family, especially her three-year-old son, now facing an unimaginable loss. He encouraged those able to help to contribute towards a fund to help with his educational opportunities in the future, as well as offering an open invite to the Auburn gym. "She made this world a better place, and she made us all better people."Birmingham Sports Community Mourns Christina Chambers
