Smooth Transition in Mobile: Keeping Connections Strong!

Mobile's seen some incredible growth in the last 13 years, and a big part of that is the solid relationship between our city leaders and the Governor's office in Montgomery.

Passing the Torch

As Mayor Sandy Stimpson wraps up his three terms, he's making sure that connection stays strong with our new Mayor, Spiro Cheriogotis. They recently teamed up to meet with Governor Kay Ivey.

Good Vibes All Around

From what we hear, the meeting was a total success!

Stimpson's Take

"Mobile's growth over the last 13 years would not have been possible without our strong support in Montgomery," Stimpson shared on his Facebook, "and I'm confident that Mayor-Elect Cheriogotis will continue to develop and maintain these crucial relationships." Governor Ivey even chimed in, saying, "Mobile's success is Alabama's success!"

Why This Matters

Ivey's support has been a game-changer, fueling economic development like Airbus, Austal, and the amazing expansion of the Port of Mobile.

What's Next?

Cheriogotis will officially take the reins from Stimpson on November 3rd. Looking ahead, Mobile will need continued support from Montgomery for projects like the I-10 Bayway, safety improvements on Highway 45, ongoing funding for the Amtrak Mardi Gras service, and smart spending of Gulf of Mexico (GOMESA) funds.

Looking to the Future

With Governor Ivey's term ending in early 2027, the 2026 election will be important. Mayor Cheriogotis aims to continue Stimpson’s legacy, and maintaining a strong relationship with the Governor (whoever that may be!) will be key.

A New Era Begins

Remember, Stimpson passed that metaphorical baton to Cheriogotis back on election night, signaling a commitment to continuity.

Background

Cheriogotis, formerly a District Judge, won the Mayoral runoff.

Keep an Eye Out!

Expect to see Stimpson and Cheriogotis connecting with potential gubernatorial candidates soon.
