These two senators aren't just visiting; they're power players on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Human Services, with Capito at the helm as chair. Get this: Their hard work has landed UAB over $100 MILLION in NIH funding since July 30th! That's some serious cash for groundbreaking research! Normally, these awards go to patients participating in clinical trials, symbolizing their incredible strength. But this time, Britt and Capito received the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Iron Strong medals for their tireless efforts in securing the funding that keeps vital research going strong! Back in July, Britt and Capito, alongside 12 other senators, pushed the White House to release funds for the National Institutes of Health, all to advance the goal of curing diseases and improving our health. They were laser-focused on making sure the Fiscal Year 2025 act, which includes critical NIH funding for research, was properly implemented. Earlier this year, Senator Britt invited Dr. Barry Sleckman, Director of UAB's O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, to testify about the HUGE national impact of UAB’s research.
