Get ready, ChumCity! Jacksonville State University's legendary Marching Southerners are heading to Pasadena! They've been selected to perform in the 138th Rose Parade Presented by Honda on January 1, 2027. Talk about a New Year's bash! The big announcement dropped during halftime at Saturday's Homecoming game. Fans and band members went wild when a special video message from Rose Parade President Terry Madigan lit up the stadium videoboard. Madigan praised the Southerners' "musicality, esprit de corps, and technical expertise," noting they were hand-picked from a ton of applicants. This parade is HUGE, viewed by over 78 million people worldwide! Jax State will be showcasing its massive marching band tradition. With over 480 members strong, the Southerners will bring a serious dose of Alabama spirit to California. Dr. Kenneth G. Bodiford, Director of Bands at JSU, says this is "a once-in-a-generation opportunity." The Rose Parade’s prestige is unmatched, giving Jax State major visibility at the start of 2027. The Southerners' six-day trip will include performances at Bandfest, community service, and other gigs to show off their amazing talents. Plus, it coincides with the band's 70th anniversary season!
