Hold on to your hats, ChumCity! We're celebrating a true legend. Willie Bennett, a World War II veteran, just turned a whopping 106 years old! Friends, family, and even some big names from the state showed up to make his birthday unforgettable. The Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City threw an amazing party for Mr. Bennett, complete with cake, delicious food, and heartwarming tributes from the staff. Born way back in 1916 in Marengo County, Willie is a local treasure. Adding to the excitement, the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs presented Mr. Bennett with a special shout-out from Governor Kay Ivey herself. It was the perfect way to top off a day filled with love and good company. Willie Bennett isn't just any centenarian. He served our country in Germany during World War II, fighting against the forces of Adolf Hitler. Talk about a hero! He even crossed paths with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Birmingham during the Civil Rights Movement while singing in a choir. How cool is that? Huge congrats to Mr. Bennett on his incredible life and happy birthday!106 Years Young! Local WWII Vet Celebrates Epic Birthday!
