Alabama's Broadband Boost: Getting Up to Speed!

The Alabama Digital Expansion Authority gathered in Montgomery this week for its quarterly pow-wow, hosted by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). The focus? Keeping those broadband expansion projects on track!

Federal Funds, Fast Internet

The meeting spotlighted progress updates from 20 internet service providers (ISPs) fueled by grants from two programs funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. These grants, totaling over $400 million, are supercharging Alabama's push to bring high-speed internet to those underserved areas. But there's a catch: everything needs to be wrapped up by the end of 2026!

A Call to Action

ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell delivered a firm, but friendly, message: progress is happening, but not fast enough! He emphasized the importance of meeting federal deadlines for the Capital Projects Fund and the Alabama Anchor Institution/Middle-Mile programs.
