Hoover Candidate Targeted with Hate

Hoover officials are speaking out against the vile threats and slurs directed at City Council candidate Tanveer Patel. Police and federal investigators are now involved, digging into a disturbing wave of harassment that's casting a shadow over next week's election.

Racial Insults and Death Threats

According to reports, Patel alerted Hoover PD and the FBI after being bombarded with online messages filled with racial insults and downright scary death threats. These attacks reportedly hit her campaign's Facebook page in recent days.

"It Has Shaken Us Up"

At a Tuesday press conference, Patel bravely described the emotional toll this has taken on her and her family. "We came to this country from India and I have been blessed to live here and live the American dream," she stated. "These past few days have been painful, very painful. My family and I have received hateful messages, insults, even death threats. It has shaken us up, our peace of mind and our family."

"Hate Will Not Win"

Patel believes the threats are designed to silence her and discourage community involvement, but she's refusing to back down. "To be told that I should be sent back to India, called a ‘raghead’ or to be threatened with violence is not only frightening; it is heartbreaking," Patel declared. "But I want to be clear: I still believe in America. I still believe in the red, white and blue, and I still believe in the American dream — that no matter your faith or background, every citizen has the right to live free and to participate fully in this democracy. Hate will not win."

Investigation Underway

Her attorney mentioned that authorities have pinpointed a suspect in Georgia related to some of the threatening comments. While the FBI is keeping mum on the investigation, Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato has firmly condemned the attacks.

Mayor Condemns Attacks

"We will not let hate win," Brocato stated, promising residents will be safe at the polls. "The Hoover Police Department is investigating and has a plan in place to make sure all of our residents enjoy free and safe opportunities to vote. We encourage everyone to get out and vote and to have full confidence that they will be completely safe in their environment."

Election Day Looms

Patel, a respected business leader and community servant, is running against Robin Schultz for Hoover City Council Place 1. The municipal election is just around the corner, next Tuesday.
