Montgomery PD Tackles Crime Wave, Promises Monthly Updates!

The Montgomery Police Department isn't messing around! They held a press conference Tuesday to address recent violent incidents and let everyone know what they're doing to keep our city safe.

Chief Grayboys Speaks Out

Chief James Grayboys made it clear: these briefings are now a monthly thing! He wants to keep everyone in the loop about what's happening at MPD.

Zero Tolerance for Violence!

"Our police department will not tolerate violent behavior in the City of Montgomery," Grayboys emphasized. This comes after a tough week, with several shootings, including three tragic homicides.

Recent Incidents

From July 10th to 14th, officers responded to multiple shootings. A 15-year-old, Brantley McNabb, was fatally shot. Grayboys stated they are confident someone will be held accountable. Other shootings on July 12th claimed the lives of Malik Benson and Keith Watley. Plus, a suspect, Tavoris Burt, was arrested after firing at an officer.

"You Shoot at Us, We Are Going to Get You!"

The Chief minced no words, stating the department’s response to violence against officers.

Progress Report: Crime is Down!

But it's not all bad news. Grayboys shared that violent crime is down over 28% compared to last year! In the past 60 days, officers seized 376 illegal guns and closed 112 felony cases.

Challenges Remain

Repeat offenders and stolen guns are still issues. Grayboys stressed the importance of community involvement and working with groups like VOCAL and the Family Justice Center.

MPD is actively recruiting, with new officers joining soon and a bigger academy class in November.

Increased patrols and camera coverage are aimed at keeping downtown safe for families.
