Nail-Biter in Cullman!

The race to fill the vacant Alabama House District 12 seat in Cullman County is turning into a real cliffhanger! Republican Cindy Myrex almost clinched the win outright on Tuesday, but ended up just shy of the 50% mark needed to avoid a run-off.

The Numbers Game

With a grand total of 4,235 votes cast, Myrex, a local real estate agent, snagged 49.81%. Businessman Clint Hollingsworth followed with a respectable 43.24%. Heather Doyle and Dan McWhorter were also in the running, but didn't quite break the 150-vote barrier.

Provisional Ballots: The Wild Card

Official sources are saying a run-off is likely, but don't count Myrex out just yet! Around 20 provisional ballots are still waiting to be counted next Tuesday, and if nearly all of those fall in her favor, she could still snatch the victory. Hollingsworth even noted some voter confusion at the polls, encouraging the completion of those crucial provisional ballots.

The Alabama Republican Party is keeping a close eye on things. Jeannie Burniston, ALGOP's Director of Legislative Affairs & Communications, praised all the candidates and reaffirmed the party's commitment to keeping this "solidly Republican seat" in conservative hands.
