Guntersville Mayoral Race Heads to Runoff!

The battle for Guntersville's top spot in 2025 is going down to the wire! Incumbent Mayor Leigh Dollar and former State Rep. Jeff McLaughlin are set for a runoff after a super-close tie in the recent election.

Dollar's Record as Mayor

Dollar's been at the helm since 2012, steering Guntersville through growth, tourism fueled by the lake, and providing essential services. She's definitely helped the city make a name for itself!

McLaughlin Under Scrutiny

But some Guntersville residents are raising eyebrows about McLaughlin's past in Montgomery.

Questions About Political Leanings

Melanie Goff, President of the Marshall County Republican Women, pointed out that McLaughlin was once labeled Alabama’s "2nd Most Liberal Legislator" back in 2010, based on data from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFI.

"Even though this race is non-partisan, McLaughlin has a long history as a Democrat," Goff stated. The Marshall County Democratic Party is openly supporting his mayoral bid.

McLaughlin's Past as a Democrat

McLaughlin served as a Democratic rep. for House District 27 from 2001 to 2010. Records also show he donated to Hillary Clinton and Doug Jones' campaigns. His law firm even chipped in $1,200 to Clinton's 2016 presidential run and $1,000 to Jones' Senate campaign.

Controversial Group's Support

Adding fuel to the fire, a group backing McLaughlin, "Liberal Agenda for North Alabama," made a disturbing post following the tragic incident involving Charlie Kirk, which has since been censored.

This same group publicly endorsed McLaughlin just last week, urging Guntersville residents to vote for him.

Get ready for a heated runoff on September 23rd, Guntersville!

Tuberville Mourns Loss of Charlie Kirk

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is expressing deep sorrow over the passing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, celebrating his impact on faith and patriotism.

“We've lost a monumental American voice, not just of this generation, but of our entire time,” Tuberville stated, reflecting on Kirk's influence.

Kirk, known for founding Turning Point USA and sparking political debates on college campuses, tragically died after being shot at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University.

A Personal Loss

Tuberville, who is also considering a run for governor in 2026, shared a heartfelt video expressing his grief over the shocking event.

“Charlie and I became close friends through his show and serving on the Air Force Service Academy board together," Tuberville shared. "He was a true American patriot, devoted to God, his family, and our nation. We recently discussed the importance of educating the next generation of leaders on college campuses, and no one did it better than him. It’s heartbreaking that someone dedicated to open dialogue and traveling the country was killed in such a senseless act of political violence on a college campus.”

Concerns About Political Climate

The senator also voiced his concerns about the current state of political discourse in the U.S.

“It's sickening that we've reached a point where someone can be murdered for their political beliefs,” he lamented. “The political violence in this country is spiraling out of control. Deranged individuals are often incited by politicians and media who label those they disagree with as Nazis, Hitler, and threats to democracy.”

“Because of this hatred, a young wife will face an empty bed, and two young children will grow up without their father," he continued. "Charlie wasn't part of the problem; he was part of the solution. He excelled at bridging divides and reaching out to students. That is why he was killed."

Tuberville hopes that this tragedy brings needed change.

Alicia Ryan: From Big Ideas to Global Impact

"Big ideas don't scare me. They inspire me." That's the motto that's propelled Alicia Ryan from D.C. strategy sessions to the forefront of advanced manufacturing right here in Huntsville! As the brains and energy behind LSINC, she's not just built a company; she's crafted a legacy of turning wild ideas into tangible achievements.

Strategy Meets Startup

Alicia's journey wasn't a straight line, but a carefully planned course. Before LSINC, she was a market guru in D.C., helping big names navigate emerging tech. She had a knack for spotting the next big thing and turning those visions into reality.

When she landed in Huntsville, that talent didn't disappear! She launched Leadership Strategies, Incorporated (later LSINC), helping companies tackle tech, markets, and strategy. But consulting wasn't the end game...

Building Dreams into Machines

"I wanted to not just analyze ideas, but bring them to life," Alicia says. That led to acquiring a product development firm, and LSINC blossomed into engineering services, manufacturing, and even their own line of specialty machines and direct-to-object printers!

LSINC is now a global leader in industrial machine design, serving industries from aerospace to consumer products. But for Alicia, the real success is the amazing team behind the machines. "I'm most proud of my people," she says, "taking engineers and growing them into a team that can bring a product from concept to global distribution...that's the real win."

Embracing the Courage to Grow

LSINC's story is one of constant growth, risk-taking, and change. Each expansion required Alicia to push boundaries and step into new roles. "I wouldn't say I was fearless," she laughs, "But I've always believed that if an opportunity benefits your company and clients, you seize it, even if the payoff is years away."

That vision has paid off. LSINC products are everywhere, supported by international partners. Alicia's applying her strategic brilliance to her own vision now!

Servant Leadership at the Core

Alicia's leadership is all about serving others. She empowers her team, builds trust, and aligns everyone toward a common goal. "Some thought it was naïve, but I believed you can succeed in business by doing the right thing and helping the whole system work together."

This belief fuels LSINC's culture, where innovation and integrity are partners. It also guides Alicia's work outside the company, in education and community impact.

Investing in the Next Generation

Alicia's proudest accomplishment? The Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering. She helped launch this pioneering high school, preparing students for cyber security and engineering careers. LSINC itself contributed expertise and support. "We believe in giving back to children. ASCTE is something the whole state should be proud of."

The Power of Mentors

Behind every great leader are great mentors. Alicia credits several women who shaped her path. One advised her to decide what she wanted to give back to the world. Another, Dorothy Davidson, encouraged her to be bold: "Stop being so nice. You owe them your best as a business leader.”

For Alicia, it's about creating possibilities. "Most people focus on why something can't happen. I focus on how it could happen, and find the people to make it real." This mindset has driven LSINC's growth and transformed Alabama's tech scene.

Recognition and Legacy

Alicia's achievements haven't gone unnoticed. She's received awards for her leadership and community contributions. But for her, the real legacy is inspiring others. "My role has been to hold on to the vision, believe in the possibilities, and bring others along to make it happen."

A True Woman of Impact

Alicia Ryan's story is a testament to vision, innovation, and service. She embodies what it means to be a Woman of Impact: dreaming big, building lasting systems, and empowering others along the way. "Big ideas don't scare me. They inspire me. And when they inspire others, that's when the real impact happens!"

Tragedy Strikes, Bama Responds

The nation was stunned Wednesday by the tragic loss of Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk, taken far too soon during a Utah Valley University speaking event.

Crimson Tide Honors Kirk

As the country grapples with this shocking event, fraternities at the University of Alabama showed their respect. Signs reading "Rest In Peace" and waving American flags appeared across campus, honoring the 31-year-old. He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

Candlelight Vigil at Denny Chimes

Wednesday night saw a moving candlelit vigil at UA's beloved Denny Chimes tower. The campus community gathered to remember Kirk.

Kirk's Past Visit to Alabama

Back in 2021, Kirk brought his "Exposing Critical Racism Tour" to Alabama, addressing COVID-19 mandates and Critical Race Theory.

A Call for Peace

Kirk's death has ignited a critical discussion on political violence, with the hope that tensions will ease during these undeniably unsettling times for our nation.

Senator Britt Calls for Unity After Shocking Political Assassination

U.S. Senator Katie Britt didn't mince words Thursday morning, addressing the media alongside top leadership to unveil legislation targeting Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, with humanitarian considerations in mind.

Britt Condemns Killing of Charlie Kirk

Her powerful statement followed the tragic assassination of conservative political activist and Turning Point USA co-founder, Charlie Kirk, on Wednesday. Britt spoke passionately about the killing, holding the media accountable.

"Political violence has absolutely no place in America," Britt (R-Montgomery) declared. "What happened yesterday was sickening, disgusting. It was a political assassination, and everyone here has a duty to call it what it is."

Utah Shooting Investigation Underway

The shooting in Utah on Wednesday led to local, state, and federal authorities taking two suspects into custody, though the shooter is reportedly still at large.

Reports indicate that bullet casings found near the scene at Utah Valley University were engraved with "expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology."

Remembering Charlie Kirk

"Charlie's faith was paramount, his family everything," Britt said, reflecting on Kirk's life. "Our prayers are with his wife and children. He influenced countless Americans, including my own children. It's unthinkable that this is happening here in the United States."

Britt concluded with a plea: "The time for unity, the time for peace, is now."

Tide Roll In: Bama Preps for Badger Brawl!

The Crimson Tide are gearing up for another home game, and whispers are already swirling about a guaranteed victory. Wisconsin's Badgers are heading to Bryant-Denny for the second leg of their home-and-home series, and the general consensus – from fans to Vegas – is that Alabama should cruise to an easy win. After all, the Tide stomped the Badgers 42-10 on their own turf last year!

No Room for Complacency!

But hold your horses, folks! Recent history proves nothing's a sure thing. Bama radio's very own Chris Stewart, speaking on Crimson Drive, is urging the Tide to take Wisconsin seriously.

Stewart's Take: Badger Warning!

"Wisconsin isn't the Big 10's best, not last year, not this year," Stewart cautioned. "They're not the Wisconsin of a decade ago. But they ARE still Wisconsin, a Big 10 team, and they absolutely have the talent to cause problems if Alabama isn't on its game!" He hopes the Tide builds on the ULM win with similar focus against the Badgers, then gets ready for a tough road game against Georgia.

Badger Bite?

The Badgers haven't dominated the Big 10 lately, but make no mistake: they've got the potential to compete. Stewart is right on the money – the Tide needs to prep for a real challenge. Otherwise, they could be in for a very rude awakening!
