Bama Students Honor Charlie Kirk After Tragic Loss

Hundreds of students from the University of Alabama, alongside local political figures, gathered at Two Dimes on the Strip this Wednesday to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The Turning Point USA co-founder was tragically assassinated last week at an event in Utah.

A Memorial Filled with Remembrance

The moving memorial was spearheaded by some familiar conservative voices online, including CJ Pearson, Savannah Chrisley, and Amir Odom. Kieghan Nangle, a UA alumna and current Executive Assistant to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, also addressed the crowd, along with Tuscaloosa entrepreneur Ric Mayers.

"Red, White, and Blue"

Mayers, a co-owner of Two Dimes, kicked off the evening with a powerful message: "This event is not about red versus blue. This event tonight is about red, white, and blue." He explained the venue's decision to host the memorial, pointing to Erika Kirk's strength in her first public statements following her husband's death.

Carrying the Torch

CJ Pearson, who headlined the event, paid tribute to Kirk before looking ahead to the future of his movement. "It’s going to be incumbent upon all of us in this room to continue the fight," Pearson declared, "and if the Left thinks that they have won, well, they have another think coming because we are just, indeed, getting started." Pearson later thanked local law enforcement and Mayers for their support in ensuring a safe event.

Controversy Over UA Employee Comments

Former Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, who attended the memorial, called comments made by some UA employees mocking Kirk after his murder "a disgrace." He emphasized the need to lift up and encourage those grieving the loss.

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl, also present, stated that state employees celebrating Kirk's death should be fired. He expressed concern about the future of education, highlighting the need to address rhetoric that encourages violence or celebrates death. Wahl asserted that Alabama "cannot have employees who are endorsing or celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk."

Alabama AG Race Heats Up!

The race for Alabama's Attorney General in 2026 just got a whole lot more interesting! Katherine Robertson received a formal endorsement from the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) this week. This is a big deal, folks! RAGA rarely jumps into primaries, making this a significant show of support.

Apparently, Robertson is the ONLY candidate in an open AG race to snag RAGA's backing in the 2026 cycle. Former Chief Border Patrol Agent Chris Clem offered insights on closing loopholes that allow even gang members to enter and be released in the U.S., stressing the importance of prioritizing the safety of American citizens. The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama Political Action Committee (that's a mouthful!), the political arm of the Alabama Rural Electric Association (AREA), has announced its backing of Derek Chen for State Auditor and Chris Beeker for Alabama Public Service Commission Place 2. These endorsements, approved by electric co-op leaders from across Alabama, aim to boost rural communities and champion pro-energy policies.

Chen Gets the Nod for State Auditor

"Derek Chen is a bright spark with a deep passion for Alabama's future," says Karl Rayborn, CEO of AREA. "We're convinced he's got the brains and the drive to serve Alabama like a boss as state auditor." Chen, a Vestavia Hills resident with degrees from Hope College, Cumberland School of Law, and the University of Alabama, credits his family's immigrant story with his dedication to responsible citizenship and keeping government lean.

Beeker, hailing from rural Alabama and currently residing in Tuscaloosa, previously served as USDA Rural Development director for Alabama under President Trump. Get ready to lace up your skates, ChumCity! After a long drought (over two decades!), professional hockey is returning to Mobile. The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is officially adding an expansion team to our beloved Port City.

2027-2028 Season Debut

Mark your calendars! The currently unnamed team will hit the ice for the 2027-2028 season. Remember the Mobile Mysticks? They graced us with their presence from 1995 to 2002. Now, a new era of hockey is about to begin!

Local Leaders Sound Off

"We are stoked to bring professional hockey back to Mobile," said team CEO Andy Kaufmann. The goal is a "competitive team" and "fun, family-friendly product" in our "brand-new arena." Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson added, "This is a perfect fit for Mobile and the Mobile Arena."

Zawyer Sports at the Helm

Jacksonville-based Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, known for its success with multiple ECHL franchises, and even the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), will own and operate the team.

Besides the Auburn game, this is the game to watch. Billy Napier's seat is getting HOT, and this feels like a make-or-break moment.
