Magic City Gridiron Clash Incoming!

Get ready, Birmingham! The UAB Blazers and Samford Bulldogs are reigniting their rivalry with a two-game football series at Protective Stadium in 2026 and 2027. It's been a whopping 34 years since these two local teams last met on the gridiron!

Dates to Circle!

Mark your calendars for October 3, 2026, and September 25, 2027. Both games will be epic showdowns at Protective Stadium, UAB's home turf downtown.

Protective Stadium Ready to Rumble

Since opening in 2021, the 47,100-seat Protective Stadium has been THE place for Birmingham's biggest events, from UAB football to the Birmingham Bowl and the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions. Now, it's set to host this historic rivalry.

A History Lesson (Briefly)

Believe it or not, UAB and Samford have only faced off once before, way back in 1992. Samford took that one, but these upcoming games are UAB's chance to even the score - and give Birmingham fans a game to remember! Get ready for some serious local football flavor!

Could Finebaum Trade SEC Nation for the Senate?

Could you imagine Paul Finebaum, the voice of the SEC, swapping the ESPN studio for the rough and tumble world of Alabama politics? Word on the street is the 70-year-old commentator might just make a run for the Republican Senate nomination!

Finebaum's Playbook: Hot Takes or Hot Seat?

Of course, it wouldn't be a smooth ride. Finebaum's said plenty of eyebrow-raising stuff over the years, and his age is bound to become a talking point. But here's the thing: he hasn't said "no."

Radio Ready: Finebaum's Debate Prep

Decades of grilling coaches and taking on angry fans on live radio and TV? That could be the ultimate training ground for dealing with political heat. Finebaum might be surprisingly well-equipped to handle the inevitable attacks and defend his positions. Stay tuned, ChumCity!

Dale Jackson, Yellowhammer News thought leader and WVNN talk show host (5-9 a.m. weekdays), is probably all over this.

Tuberville Calls for Judge's Suspension Amid Spying Allegations

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is fired up, folks! He's demanding a U.S. District Court Judge be shown the door, accusing him of abusing his power to authorize the Biden Justice Department to snoop on Republican Senators – including, you guessed it, Tuberville himself!

Joining the Fight

Tuberville has teamed up with Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) to pen a letter to D.C. Circuit Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan. Their demand? A temporary suspension for Chief Judge James Boasberg while Congress debates Articles of Impeachment. The charge? Abusing his judicial authority to target the Trump administration, Republican Senators, and conservative groups.

"Suspend and Impeach Boasberg!"

"Articles of Impeachment have been filed against Judge Boasberg for his BLATANT abuse of judicial authority," Tuberville declared. "He authorized the Biden DOJ to SPY on the phones of sitting U.S. Senators. SUSPEND AND IMPEACH BOASBERG."

Operation Arctic Frost Under Scrutiny

These Articles of Impeachment stem from "Operation Arctic Frost," the Biden administration's alleged effort to spy on Republican Senators, including our very own Sen. Tuberville. Judge Boasberg is also accused of improperly granting gag orders to shield Jack Smith's "political witch hunt."

Precedent for Suspension?

The Senators point to precedent, noting that Judge G. Thomas Porteous, Jr. was suspended during his own impeachment inquiry. "As Chief Judge of the applicable circuit judicial council, you are tasked with overseeing the Article III remedial process for the misconduct of the appellate and district judges of your circuit," the letter states.

Tuberville's Tough Talk

Tuberville didn't hold back on Newsmax either, saying, "We need to make sure, especially on my end...that you put crooked judges like Boasberg...and you put Jack Smith...behind the scenes, put him in jail." He's calling for accountability and an end to what he sees as a major abuse of power.

Alabama Delegation Unanimously Backs Epstein Files Release!

Guess what, ChumCity citizens? Every single member of Alabama's crew in the U.S. House just voted YES to unleashing the Epstein files! The Epstein Files Transparency Act sailed through the House with a whopping 427-1 vote.

What's the Buzz?

Basically, this bill tells the Department of Justice to spill the tea and release all the documents related to the late Jeffrey Epstein.

Alabama Reps Speak Out

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore emphasized the need for transparency and pointed towards President Trump's efforts. U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer hopes the release will bring justice for Epstein's victims and hold wrongdoers accountable. Even U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) chimed in, stating, "I believe transparency is always the best policy, and the American people and those victims deserve to know."

What's Next?

Now, the bill heads to the Senate for their thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Stay tuned, ChumCity!

Tide Rolling On After Sooner Stumble

The Alabama Crimson Tide is shaking off the sting after their recent home loss to the Oklahoma Sooners, their first under Coach Kalen DeBoer. Ouch! But don't count the Tide out just yet, folks!

Despite the Sooner setback (their second in a row!), the path to glory is still wide open. It all starts this week with a face-off against Eastern Illinois. Think of it as a little pre-Iron Bowl tune-up.

Focusing Forward

With the Iron Bowl looming large (and a College Football Playoff spot potentially on the line!), Coach DeBoer isn't letting the team wallow. He's all about moving on and getting better, faster!

DeBoer's Take

During his Monday presser, the coach emphasized his mindset and what he's preaching to the team.

"I’m disappointed in the outcome, but I can already see the character of this football team shining through," DeBoer said. "This is not a time to sit still. This is a time to keep moving forward. We see areas that we can continue to improve on, and that’s what we have done all season long. We continue to push and go back to work."

Locker Room Blues

As bummed as fans were by the loss, you can bet the locker room felt it even more. Now it's up to Coach DeBoer and the crew to get the team fired up for the challenges ahead. Roll Tide!

Alabama Public TV Stays Tuned to PBS (For Now!)

Good news, ChumCity folks! Alabama Public Television (APT) isn't pulling the plug on PBS just yet. Despite facing a hefty $1.4 million budget cut from the feds, the Alabama Educational Television Commission voted Tuesday to keep the PBS connection alive. They approved paying those program dues through June, ensuring our favorite shows stick around.

Dodging a Programming Disaster

Apparently, cutting ties with PBS would be a major headache. Commissioners learned that replacing PBS programming would cost a whopping $2.5 million every year, plus almost a million more for music licensing! Talk about a budget buster.

Donor Dollars at Stake

And that's not all. Other stations that ditched PBS saw donor support plummet by 80-90%. Ouch! Looks like folks really love their PBS.

The "Pay the Bill" Motion

Commissioner Ferris Stephens made the motion to simply "pay our current bill," recognizing that another payment is due later this year. The motion passed, so breathe easy – Elmo and pals are safe (for now).

Governor Ivey Weighs In

Governor Kay Ivey urged caution, asking the commission to slow down before making any drastic moves towards disaffiliation. Her letter was officially added to the meeting record.

Study Committee on the Horizon

APT's Executive Director Wayne Reid will be putting together a study committee to examine all the issues raised. This committee will include voices from the public, legislature, and broadcasting world. Reid will present a recommended committee structure at the next meeting. Stay tuned, ChumCity, for more updates!

Alabama House Special Primary Runoff Results!

The results are in from Tuesday night's Alabama House District 38 special primary! Kristin Nelson, wife of Sheriff Jeff Nelson and Chair of the Chambers County Republican Party, snagged a decisive victory over Garrett Dixon in the Republican primary runoff.

Nelson's Victory

Nelson secured approximately 1,603 votes (54.65%), while Dixon received 1,330 votes (45.35%), according to unofficial totals from the Alabama Secretary of State’s office. This runoff determined the Republican nominee to succeed Debbie Wood, who resigned earlier this year. HD38 includes parts of Chambers and Lee counties along the Alabama-Georgia border, covering areas like Valley, Lanett, Beulah, and Smiths Station.

Nelson's Reaction

"I want to thank all of my supporters across House District 38 who came out and voted today,” Nelson stated after her win. "Serving the great folks of Chambers and Lee Counties is second nature to me, and I'll represent their voices in Montgomery with honesty and integrity. House District 38 has a great legacy of strong representation in Montgomery, and I plan on fully continuing that legacy.”

Dixon's Response

Dixon expressed gratitude to his supporters: "Whether you voted, volunteered, donated, or took the time to share words of encouragement, thank you. It has been an honor to meet so many people across House District 38 and to hear directly about the hopes and concerns people are facing."

General Election on the Horizon

Unfortunately for the nearly 50,000 Alabamians residing in HD38, because there is a Democrat candidate in the race, there will be a general election on February 3, 2026.

Party Support

The Alabama Republican Party celebrated Nelson’s victory. Jeannie Burniston, ALGOP’s Director of Legislative Affairs and Communications, remarked, “Congratulations to Kristin Nelson on a hard-earned victory! She earned the trust of Republican voters in Lee and Chambers Counties, and we are excited to partner with her as our nominee.”
