Gudger Puts the Brakes on Smith Lake Resort Bill!

State Senator Garlan Gudger is hitting the rewind button on SB322, the bill that stirred up a hornet's nest over near Smith Lake. Remember that one? It was all about potential resort development through non-contiguous annexation.

Listening to the People

Gudger says the bill became a major distraction, overshadowing other local priorities. He heard you loud and clear, ChumCity! Conversations at local events made it clear: folks were concerned.

Why the Change of Heart?

The Cullman County Commission and some residents were worried SB322 would mess with traditional annexation and put a strain on local resources. Gudger initially defended the bill as an economic boost, but public sentiment changed his mind.

SB12 to the Rescue!

Gudger has already filed SB12, a placeholder bill, to completely repeal SB322 when the legislature gets back to business in January. He promises it's the real deal, not just some political stunt. "It's going to move," he insists.

Unity Over Development

For Gudger, keeping the community united is more important than pushing through any single project. He wants everyone working together, not divided over this one development.

"I'm Canceling This Bill Out"

He says he's listening to his constituents and taking action. He wrapped up by saying he loves the community too much to see it torn apart.

What's Next?

The 2026 Alabama Legislative Session kicks off on January 13, 2026, and Gudger says SB12 will be the first item on the agenda. Stay tuned, ChumCity!

Alabama Lawmakers Get a White House Shout-Out!

Big news, ChumCity! The White House is giving some serious love to a few Alabama lawmakers who are all aboard the President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" train. Apparently, they're super stoked about what it means for the Yellowhammer State.

What's the Buzz?

This all stems from that massive tax and spending package signed into law on July 4th. According to Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter, along with State Sen. Arthur Orr, and State Reps. Rex Reynolds and Susan DuBose, it's gonna mean more moolah staying right here in Alabama families' pockets.

Lawmakers Weigh In

Reynolds (R-Huntsville) says it'll "secure tax cuts" and boost job creation. Orr (R-Decatur) is pumped about the focus on rural areas and those sweet tax cuts for seniors. He also believes it will bring manufacturing jobs back home.

Speaker Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) is giving props to President Trump, saying the bill will "help our economy" and even boost education. DuBose (R-Hoover) is all about taxpayers keeping more of their hard-earned cash.

Alabama Goes to Washington

Over 40 Alabama legislators recently hit up the White House State Leadership Conference, chatting with bigwigs like Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick about implementing Trump's policies statewide. Topics ranged from education tax credits to Medicaid rules and even election integrity – pretty important stuff, right?

Bristol Speedway Slugfest Turns Mud Bowl Bust!

Remember that Braves-Reds game at Bristol Motor Speedway? Yeah, the one that was supposed to be EPIC? Torrential downpours and some seriously questionable planning turned what should've been a record-breaker into a muddy mess. Fans griped about obstructed views, concession chaos, and seats so far away they felt like they were "watching from the interstate," according to Barry McKnight! The Braves did snag a 4–2 win, but let's just say the experience was... memorable, for all the wrong reasons.

Gridiron Gossip: Camp Updates!

Fall football camps are heating up, and all eyes are on the quarterbacks!
